Zombie Sharks (2014)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

No, this here isn't George A. Romero's attempt at making a shark movie but instead it's a pretty intense documentary where shark diver Eli Martinez tries to find out what is killing Great White sharks and nearly eating all of their bodies. The diver decides to investigate what has become known as tonic immobility, which is where a shark goes upside down and pretty much enters a state where they can't do anything. Hence, this is where the "zombie" comes from in the title.

This here is certainly one of the better documentaries to come out of Shark Week thanks in large part to how crazy Martinez is. I'm not one to call just anyone crazy but there's no question that Martinez is either nuts or perhaps one of the bravest men alive. There's one portion of the film where he dives with Tiger sharks and tries to flip them over to see if he can put them under this trance. If you think this is intense just wait until he dives with Great Whites and decides to get out of his protective cage.

Fans of sharks and especially Great White sharks are going to love this because of the terrific footage. The shark frenzy that the divers go through was rather remarkable to watch as well as a few other scenes where the divers get into the water with some orcas.
