Decent episode, I liked the scene with Boyle, it was pretty funny.

It's Peralta's Birthday, But The Party Never Starts

Warning: Spoilers
This episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine starts out with a hilarious cold opening with Jake's failed attempts to ride a hoverboard followed with another killer when Boyle pops a confetti cannon to celebrate Jake's birthday followed by Terry and Rosa unholstering their fire arms in shock, but it's all downhill from there. The main plot of Jake taking Amy to meet his mother for his birthday never really takes off with some odd jokes like Santiago singing "Itsy Bitsy Spider". Then Jake's dad ends up arriving and we learn that Jake's mom is seeing him again. I know that Roger has been an awful father to Jake, but instead of telling him off calmly in Captain Peralta, he acts pretty mean spirted, but then again he was trying to protect his mother. But, the bottom line is there's nothing really funny here and the jokes or the plot never really take off. Surprisingly, the B-plot and the C-plot provide much more joy. In the B-plot, Boyle, Rosa, and Terry are at a stakeout, but Boyle spills Pho on his body camera and it won't work. Later Rosa arrests the perp and has the footage on her body cam, but Charle's Benny and the Jets are showing. It's basically a 10 minute dick joke, but the execution makes it work well. The C-plot involves Holt, Gina, Hitchcock, and Scully in a doomsday prep sort of challenge where they have to find 3 keys to get them out of it. The jokes work well especially with Hitchcock and Scully, but it's not enough to make the main plot worthwhile. Overall, this episode is skippable, the B-plot and C-plot are enjoyable, but not enough to make up for a stale main plot.
