Whatever event is going on in 1905 Macedonia, it seems that it involves people walking over rough ground in their best clothing. This wedding procession is no different, although there are people firing rifles too. Is this the Balkan equivalent of a shotgun wedding, are they using the noise to drive off evil spirits, or are they simply being as noisy as possible to show off their good humor? Will there be a shivaree? That's a custom that has its equivalents in China and Indiana, so why not Macedonia?
As always, the Manaki brothers give us a glimpse into a bygone world and incite as many questions as they give answers.
