Katawa Shoujo is a dating sim that has a story to its creation which is just as compelling as the actual game itself.

The game was inspired by some artwork of handicapped girls on a site called 4chan. The 4chan community came together and eventually developed the game, it took a while but the game was created and released completely for free. Definitely recommend you find a YouTube video and learn about it, because it was an interesting community effort.

The game itself is very unique, premise seems odd but the content is heartwarming and wholesome. Character design, original soundtracks, and background artwork are well made and have a lot of soul. This game has a few flaws, being that the different routes for the different girls are written by different people. So the writing tone is different in every route, and it becomes weird when replaying.

Overall pretty fun game, has some ecchi scenes and moments, expected from a dating sim, but for a free game it's short and sweet and good.

There is a point in life everyone gets to, whether your elderly or young, where you find the one the one thing that you know will consistently make you happy, the one thing you will never disown or reject. This, reader, is the one thing that will always make me happy, and I will never forget it, not now, not ever.

Katawa Shoujo is the golden example of what a standard dating sim visual novel should be, not to say that it's standard, in fact, the reason it's the perfect example is because it's unique. Originally inspired by a drawing of physically disabled girls posted on 4chan, it was a 10+ year passion project that set a high standard in music, characters, writing, and soul. This novel is an absolute feels trip from start to finish, without spoiling too much, the game is set in four chapters each for each girl, with their own unique stories and arch, and multiple endings good and bad depending on your choices).

Each girl had a unique disability, personality, and arch over the story, which will result in their salvation or destruction, depending on you of course. The pacing and development of each character's development is great, you may find yourself getting attached to these girls as the game continues as you see the light and dark sides of them.

The music is outstanding. Original and emotional, there's a piece made for each of the game's emotional zeniths. There's no words that can explain the amazing soundtrack, just play it.

The flaws are few, and quite far between, most are subjective depending on your view on a certain story line, but, that's for you to find out.

There's really not enough words to describe how this game has effected me in life, it's a story with morals to carry with you through life, and ones you will never forget.

Anyway, if you like a good story, interesting and in-depth characters, piano and string music, (and a little hentai,) this game is for you. So get it for free on the website of the same name.
