Fun but not very original

Warning: Spoilers
The second episode of the mini-series offers some nice touches and some others that just reek of conventionality. It is, though, as with the first episode, another nice showing of good acting, direction and plot development.

Pine gets in contact with Angela, who convinces him to help in stopping Roper once and for all. So now our hero has to go to the dark side to get into Roper's inner circle and help in destroying it.

As with the first episode, the visuals, and the acting are very very good. We have a chance to see more of Laurie, who it is pretty easy to see is enjoying this dark character. Olivia Colman is great too as Angela, Pine's "boss". This is Hiddleston's show, though, and he dominates with his calm and cool presence.

The first part is very good, but then the show falls a little bit into conventionality, with a couple of plot developments that could have been avoided, and that take a little bit from the story, and bring a sense of spy-of-the-week to the series. Nonetheless the quality of everyone involved is good enough to keep the series on the right side.

And the game between Laurie's Roper and Hiddleston's Pine has just started...

FFS can we stop making Albanians the bad guys!

The episode is full of cliches. They need to understand that adding more to negative stereotypes simply makes for a lame screenplay.

The acting is amazing, though!

But, the directing abuses close-ups and has lots of awkward moments that don't really happen in daily life.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode opens with a woman in a shower. Some teasing shots but no actual nudity. Boring. Who is this anyway?? Roper's girl?? Hahaha, her mom calls her and tells her that she's 'nothing but a dirty whore'. So, this is in Spain. And Roper is waiting for his girl. Apparently Roper has a son.

+1 Star for Mom calling her Daughter a dirty whore

So the Roper group travels by boat to some dinner party. At this party, a dude grabs Roper's son and holds him at gunpoint. Wait What? This guy asks if the kid he grabbed at random is Roper's kid?? LOL.. dumb.

-1 Star for the stupidity of just lucking up and grabbing Roper's kid to demand money???

If he hadn't grabbed Ropers kid right off the bat Roper's security would have shot him. Wait Pine is at this Spain location?? How did he get there??

Oh here we go, flashback to 6 months earlier. Burr and Pine are talking on a train. Burr and Pine talking in a hotel room. Well apparently Pine had a father that was in British intelligence. And Burr she wants to recruit Pine to go after Roper. Burr has been trying to get Roper for 10 years, and she can't get close. But she thinks Pine, as a Hotel guy, can get close to Roper.

After Pine accepts Burr's deal. Burr goes over the plan and how Pine has to be / act as her Agent in order to GET Roper.

So in Devon, England, Pine is moving into a new flat. When he first gets there, he finds kids screwing inside his new home. Soon afterward, Pine finds a squeeze of his own.

Back in London, a meeting occurs about Global Arms Trade and smuggling of weapons. Ahh cool. Tobias Menzies!! He was so awesome in the first 2 seasons of Outlander!!

So back in Devon, what is Pine doing?? Setting himself up as some sort of drug dealer? All of a sudden he's not a hotel guy anymore. He's a buttkicking criminal type with a new squeeze. And his name is Jack something or other. Jack Lindon. So apparently he set himself up here to look like a criminal who dealt drugs and killed someone in his flat.

Then he turns up in Spain, and he jumps in to this burglary / kidnap against Roper's kid. And he's in on it!! He rescues Roper's kid from hese fake burglars. And he takes a BEATING of a lifetime!!! Good one!!! Danny, the kid, points out that sous chef, Thomas Quince saved his kid. Roper tho, recognizes him as Pine from the Hotel in Switzerland.

-1 Star for the miracle of Pine/ Quince / Lindon surviving the horrific beating he took. That was lucky!!!!

Burr in her safehouse in Spain she intercepts Roper's security guy doing a background check on thomas Quince, John Pine, Jack Lindon. Burr immediately calls in a warrant on Quince / Pine / Lindon to make his background look shady so he can get in with Roper. It's just so lucky that he survived being beat close to death!!!!

He's in !!! Secret Agent Pine is taken to Roper's HOUSE to recover. See what I did there?? Haha. Roper's security guy is very suspicious of Pine. He see's thru the charade. But he's been told to hold off by Roper. So they await Roper's return to the villa. When Rope does return he visits Pine immediately. He tells him he's looking forward to speaking to him the next day.

And that's how we end. 4/10 Not really impressed by unconvincing story.
