This movie is shot with two different aspect ratios. 2:35:1 and 2:1. The taller ratio is used for two scenes when Kate and Selby are tied to towering trees.
The rigging used to safely secure the performers to trees was made with stainless steel platform "chairs" specially designed and manufactured by engineers James Meurer and Lonnie Meurer in Denver, Colorado.
Though the movie looks like it takes place miles from civilization, there was almost always a house or a road carefully framed out just off-screen. All the dialogue was rerecorded in post-production due to traffic, lawnmowers, birds, and thunderstorms.
The movie was shot in Hinckley, Ohio, but takes place in Boston Mills, Ohio, a real place renowned for ghost stories and strange happenings.
All of the crane shots were executed without a crane. Director Michael Ryan Hahn climbed scaffolding and used handheld camerawork to simulate slight crane movements and height.
