Catastrophe is a fitting name for the finale to Series 1.

Warning: Spoilers
Rob's been away, Sharon worried he wouldn't return, she's relieved when he appears. Sharon has her matron of honour sorted. Fergal agrees to be Rob's best man, he's not in the best of spirits, his wife has left and he's hitting the bottle. Sharon's of out on her hen with crazy friend Kate. Rob heads out on his stag with the boys, Dave leads them to a strip joint. Kate falls and bangs her head outside waiting for a taxi but she disappears. The wedding happens, but not without incident. The wedding night sadly goes wrong too.

Fran's song at the wedding is just brilliant, so funny, she's been a great character. It's the funniest moment of the episode, which takes a more sour turn.

It's a lovely episode, they've grown as a couple, from wild abandoned lust to him cutting her toe nails, it's a lot of fun, which turns sour to sweet.

A severely underrated finale to a simply wonderful series

Warning: Spoilers
Catastrophe's first series was nothing short of a complete triumph. It was so refreshing to have a Romantic Comedy series that doesn't glamourise everything, and one that doesn't follow that same monotonous structure time and time again. Both Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney are terrific across all six episodes; while Horgan peaked with her award calibre performance in the stellar episode four, Delaney peaked in the infamous fight scene that closes this finale.

This fight, contrary to what people seem to think, does not come out of the blue. Anything who failed to see the tension arising between Rob and Sharon throughout the series has failed to truly understand what Catastrophe is about. Sharon is a smart woman, we know this. She will come to the realisation sooner or later that her and Rob's relationship isn't perfect. Sure, they got along considerably better than they expected, but look at their situation and how they initially got together. "I always try to do the right thing" Rob yells at Sharon after their argument begins. "I don't want to be the right thing, I want to be a choice" is Sharon's devastating comeback. It may sound selfish, but it's entirely true. Being "the right thing" is nice, but it isn't the foundation for a relationship. Sharon and Rob came together because they believed it to be the right thing after her pregnancy, but how much of their relationship actually occurred through choice?

It's a heart-breakingly poignant scene, which both Horgan and Delaney act the hell out of. They both demonstrated fantastic comedic ability, both in their writing and their performances, across the entire series, but this finale (and final sequence, in particular) is where the show's title truly comes into its own. They may have made it work as best they can, and it certainly does seem like this fight is a spur of the moment confrontation that will be wrapped up fairly soon, but their situation is a catastrophe. The show, however, is the furthest thing from it.

Completely out of character

Did one of the writers die before the last episode was written? The switch in personality was completely unrealistic. Nothing from previous episodes was even slightly compatible with what we are now supposed to believe about the character. In trying to make a cliffhanger all they did was take a very nice show and turn it into an unrealistic steaming pile of ... well you get the idea.

Up until episode 6 I would have given the series a 9 out of 10. The characters were well developed and the storyline was very enjoyable. But now, with the completely unrealistic shift with a main character, the series gets a 5 at best and this episode gets a 1. Catastrophe does aptly describe the writing for this show.

Jumped the shark?

Warning: Spoilers
This is a great show, until episode 5 of the 2nd season. What happened to the writing and directing in the final 2 episodes? It's like a different show with new (darker, meaner) characters. The editing is clunky, the scenes lacking the typical seamless flow. The bad (spoilers): * Over-dosing friend vomits in CPR'ing friend's mouth - So not funny * Wife gets so drunk she cougars-it and does an RU486 - So damn ugly * Funny flirty co-worker turns psycho and goes HR - Not funny * Super funny, Zen-like Husband becomes a jerk in many ways, and goes full throttle alcoholic..

We love this show and hope it gets back on the rails.
