Black comedy dealing with a twisted game of murder with several twists and turns
ma-cortes11 March 2020
Ines Paris's bewildering comedy blends intriguing elements with humor , tongue-in-cheek and thrills ; so, the tone of the film is light-hearted as well as stirring . The film starts at a slow pace , and it took a while to catch me , when it did it was fantastic . La noche que mi madre mató a mi padre (2016) is a pleasant Spanish comedy with humor , fun , amusing situations and nice players . The story takes place in present day at a crazy night where all is possible , being starred by some tight-knitted friends : husbands and wives , who reunite to have dinner , though things go wrong . The motley group of couples , altogether restricted in one night , formed by various marriages and recent divorcés and married again . Isabel (splendidly performed Belén Rueda) is married to Ángel (magnificently played by Eduard Fernandez) , a screenwriter who is participating in his next film along with his previous spouse Susana (Maria Pujalte) . During the dinner Carlos (Fele Martinez) shows up suddenly with a young girl called Álex (Patricia Montero) , announcing their next wedding .After Isabel, Ángel , Susana and Carlos (Fele Martinez) , Isabel's first husband, send away to them respective children to a school excursion , Isabel accepts to organize in her home a business dinner for his guests . At home comes Susana , producer and Angel's ex-wife and Diego (Diego Peretti himself) , an important Argentinian actor to negotiate his acting in the movie . But a bit later on , a murder unexpectedly takes place , there are various suspicious people , though , Ángel and Susana suspect mainly of the guilty of Isabel .

Pretty amusing and twisted film concerning about some long-time friends all of them divorced and married again , they get together for a dinner , begining a series of events more maddened each time, through a long night where surprises seems not having end . As many secrets start to unveil , the equilibrium trembles and things go awry .The brilliant beginning idea is developed in a marvelous crescendo that turns into rapidly the situation from a nice dinner with old friends into a bloody battleground that reveals the surprising secrets . As well as the darkest secrets are disclosed to all of them and then awry consequences take place , some are cunningly revealed only to the eyes of spectators . A wonderful and talented plethora of actors, the mainstays of current Spanish cinema, implements a totally suspenseful melodrama interspersed with twists , turns , top-shelf comedic flair and naturalistic theatrics . It also contains a final twist in the screenplay that I will not reveal . It's well acted and smartly written. The movie is both funny and dramatic and so is the bitter-sweet ending .

This agreeable comedy contains lots of humor , mayhem , entertainment , amusement and a colorful as well as appropriate cinematography . This is a slightly funny film with entertaining events , giggles , emotion and a killing with unexpected consequences . The film moves in fits and starts most of which would be desirable , with more traps the viewer resists any kind, and some moments of enjoyment and others quite a few embarrassing . It contains several touches of humor and irony , especially at the roles performed by Belén Rueda and her beloved husband Eduard Fernandez . This is a typical Spanish comedy from the 2010s with the usual ingredients such as enjoyable humor , relationships among people and fun events . The characters in this film are all lovable despite being rather pathetic and silly . This diverting picture looks like a theater play ; however, attempts to spread optimism about some disconcerting relationships , with its amusing sides but also including some deceptions and a surprising finale . ¨La noche que mi madre mató a mi padre¨ or ¨The Night My Mother Killed My Father¨ (Several World-wide ,English title) follows similar style to the former and recently made ¨Perfectos Desconocidos¨by Alex De La Iglesia . Main protagonists are very sympathetic , Belen Rueda as an actress , recent in her 40-year-old, unable to get new characters for movies or theaters, since then directors looking for younger women , but , nowadays , she is ready for anything to recover her former glory . Belén Rueda is considered to be one of the best Spanish actresses, as cinema as TV . She is best known for her roles as Lucía in the TV series Los Serrano (2003) and eventually acted in films . As she worked a lot as an actress on television, including the show Medico de Familia (1997) and Periodistas (1998 TV Series) . She won a Goya Award in 2004 for her role as Julia in Mar adentro (2004). She received another Goya nomination for her role in the 2007 film, El orfanato (2007) in which played Laura . Rueda played the lead role of the Spanish thriller Los ojos de Julia (2010), which was produced by Guillermo del Toro. She also starred in Oriol Paulo's thriller El cuerpo (2012). While Eduard Fernandez delivers a very likeable performance as the neurotic Ángel , he plays a screenwriter who is working in his next cinema project along with his producer, well played by Maria Pujalte . In addition , Fele Martinez and Patricia Montero give charming as well as attractive acting .

Atmospheric , moving and lively musical score by Arnau Ballester , adding some enjoyable songs . The catching soundtrack includes : Otra luna Written by Carlos Libedinsky Performed by Narcotango ; Vida mía Written by Richard Anthony Cepeda Performed by Richard Cepeda ; A corazón abierto Written by Natos y Waor Performed by Natos y Waor Music by Pablo Gareta. Including a spotless pictorial cinematography shot in Valencia by Nestor Calvo who photographed : Atomica , Lobo , Nos Miran , Lobos De Washington , Años Barbaros , Miguel and William , showing splendidly the evocative interior scenarios, as he photographs almost perfectly the elements of each shot , every sequence , every space . Being shot in Moncada, València, Comunitat Valenciana . This motion picture was professionally written by Ines Paris with collaboration by known filmmaker Fernando Colomo , being well directed by Ines Paris herself . Ines Paris is a writer and director, known for Maitena: Estados Alterados (2008), Miguel y William (2007) , A Mi Madre Le Gustan Las Mujeres (2002) Se Quien Eres (2000) and Semen, a Love Sample . Rating : 6 . Acceptable and passable . Well worth watching . The flick will appeal to Spanish comedy buffs .

very funny comedy with a dark touch

I love the comedies that look like theater plays. They focus on characters and off limit situations between them. This one has it all but it doesn't go over-the-top and keeps the story quite believable. Add to it a wonderful cast and you have a perfect comedy. Belen Rueda is always nice to see, comedy or drama she manages a great interpretation. Pujalte is a great actress, with a very funny role in this one. But the funniest part for me was with Diego Peretti, I must admit I had never seen any of his films before, I didn't know what to expect, but I have become his instant fan after this one. Watch it for some laughs out loud!
