Journalists and sisters Caitlin and Caroline Moran's first episode of the autobiographical Raised By Wolves starts of with some verve.

Single mother Della Garry takes her brood foraging in the common. Sisters Germaine and Aretha follow them on their bikes as there is no space in the car.

Germaine has an imaginative mind with a cruel streak. She has a shine for fellow school pupil Lee Rhind. He is more interested in bullying her, she gets an opportunity to touch the inside of his house.

Aretha seems the more sensible one. When younger sister Yoko gets her first period. Mum Della decides to take a more adult approach to this. A visit to the supermarket to stock up on pads and big bar of Toblerone should do the trick.

Add a randy grandpa, it reminded me of Danny Baker's Cradle to Grave. Both comedies are filled with warm nostalgia and some spikiness. I noted both Baker and the Morans are writers and journalists. Maybe they knew what beats and exaggeration to add to the script. The first episode is not laugh out loud funny but you do warm to the characters.
