The first episode of EastEnders (1985) which is a prequel. The prequel takes place prior to Lucy Beale's murder on Good Friday 2014 which took place in Episode 4841 which was broadcast on 18th April 2014. The prequel details the final hours of Lucy Beale's life and reveals the identity of her killer. This is the first episode of EastEnders (1985) to be a prequel.
When she was interviewed by Graham Norton about Flashback. Hetti Bywater stated that she did not know that the showrunners wanted her back to do a special flashback episode detailing Lucy Beale's final hours leading up to her murder and that she had to a fringe in her hair because her character had a fringe in her hair when she was killed.
The opening scene of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena: Past Transgressions (2011) has been considered by a few to be a possible major influence behind the opening scene of Lucy Beale's corpse lying in Walford Common. Like Episode 5019, the Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (2011) TV mini-series is a prequel to the graphic hit TV series Spartacus: Blood and Sand (2010).
Flashback is the 30th anniversary special, broadcast 30 years after the soap opera was first broadcast on 19th February 1985.
