Excellent episode

Warning: Spoilers
I had stopped watching Grey's Anatomy a couple months before this episode, but Derek's death left the internet in such a turmoil that I decided to watch the episode.

In my opinion, this was once again an amazing episode, a quality we had previously been used to, but I had found lacking more and more from the show.

Shonda Rhimes had to find an explanation for Derek's disappearance - I think this gave the characters a "clean break", and left everyone with good memories. I am sad Derek is gone from the show and am usually very strongly against "killing off" characters when the actors don't renew contracts. This is actually just about the only case where I agree with the decision, I feel it is right and fits in with the show. Perhaps I will start watching Grey's Anatomy again next season..

If this was the show finale... it was kind of perfect

Warning: Spoilers
There has been talk of a season 12, but I'm really hoping this was the end of the series.

If killing off Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd was that necessary, than this was the perfect ending for the show.

We all know this is fiction , but I've been watching the show for 9 years now, and it has given great advices on situations everyone has to face in life eventually and this is one of them. Nobody plans their own death unless they're suicidal. It's something that just happens, and you have to handle it. Everybody handles it a different way. Meredith left Seattle, Owen and April joined some tour in the army, Amelia used humor to disguise her pain.

In my humble opinion, it doesn't matter how you deal with it, the fact is that you have to deal with it eventually because no one is immortal.

In the end, the important thing is to know that the pain will not be so severe forever, it will eventually blue manageable... and you have to move forward with your life. And that's the main lesson this finale teaches us. Even if you lose someone really close to you, you can always pick yourself up and live your life, maybe even holding on to some memories of the person you lost, like Meredith did, by using Derek's ferryboat scrub cap.

This was the perfect finale and, as I said in the beginning, I'm hoping not just season finale, but series. You had a very good run, Grey's Anatomy, but it's time to end.

Dead Like Derek
leighmichele30 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The show ended last week. God-Complexed Shondra Rhimes killed off Derek and the show. Who was the driving force who found the cause of the plane crash, who was the one who fought for the purchase of the hospital? Derek. You do not survive a serial killer, a plane crash, seeing your father murdered in front of you, your wife's miscarriage... only to be killed off at an inept hospital... Why he was taken to that hospital is unknown, if he had not gotten on the ferry yet he was close to his own hospital. Meredith did not call anyone? Seriously?? Plus his face was all over Seattle as the face of Seattle Grace... Anyone remember that? There is NO WAY no one knew who he was. He had his ID and they had his license plate, plus he was known to all the EMS people. If he was going to be killed off WHY NOT AT LEAST BE LOGICAL???

There is a reason that 65% of the viewers sopped watching when Derek was killed off. Please join me in contacting ABC and their parent company The Walt Disney Company that his death was a very poor choice and the result of it is the death of all of div Rhimes' shows. Scandal, How to get away with murder and any and all other shows she may come up with in the future.

Strange filler makes up most of this long special ep
marhask2 August 2021
I'm not sure why there are two parts to this episode- part 1 is all depressing subplots and endless repetitive flashbacks to Meredith's childhood/mother. Cutting these out would have left a half decent regular length episode.
