When Lord Hervey (Ed Stoppard) notices John Marlott's (Sean Bean) syphilis symptoms he begins to mention an experimental herbal remedy that is showing promise for treating syphilis. He begins to say it comes from bread mo--, at which point John interrupts him. The cure for syphilis turned out to be found in bread mold and became penicillin.
When Marlott (Sean Bean) visits Boz, he tells him that he "fought against Napoleon at Waterloo." Sean Bean played Richard Sharpe, a British soldier in a series of movies based on the books of Bernard Cornwell, who fought against Naplolean's forces.
