"The Humsafar Girl does it again"
farooqahmed-7278519 July 2015
In the midst of film makers trying to portray the problems of the illiterate and poverty stricken Pakistan comes this masterpiece from Momina Duraid which says Rich people have emotions and problems as well.

After the flagship that was Humsafar, my mind unconditionally pairs up Mahira Khan with Fawad Khan, but to his credit, Humayun Saeed has done an incredible job at making this couple look great. This couple has great chemistry and they look extremely good in both intimate and intense scenes.

Although Mahira has once again stuck to her forte and her character isn't all that different from what we've seen earlier from her but you really don't care about it that much when she's so refreshingly good at it, turning into the Julia Roberts of Pakistan, you like her more every time you see her on screen.

A brilliant direction ensured that all the characters stayed in the center for just the right amount of time while the main focus stayed on Mahira as she took up about 90 percent of the ideal 116 minute run-time and not for one second she felt boring. The director also made sure that the romance was not over-done and hence it never felt cheesy, in fact it's a better family film than "Wrong No.". The picturesque landscapes and vivid colors in the background only added to what were already beautiful scenes.

Bin Roye's music however is one of the greatest standouts of the movie. All of the songs were good but then came along what is most probably the best mehndi song of the decade, incredible music playing back to an equally good dance-off, Balle Balle is the song you want in your life.

Despite a few hiccups in the plot and a rather predictable "twist", Bin Roye is great effort and a perfect addition to this newly resurrected Pakistani Cinema. After all the films we've had in the recent past we needed a good romantic one and thanks to Momina Duraid, we have it.

As far as a recommendation is concerned, if you're the type of person who enjoys a rather conventional love story with brilliant acting and great music, the price of the ticket is worth it.

decent family movie
awaisasghar26 July 2015
Of course the movie was not flawless, but it was worth watching. i think it was a decent movie. the direction was very good in my view the problem was that the story moved very fast. transition between scenes could have been better, music was pretty good. the movies is competing Bollywood's Bajrangi bhaiijaan & some Hollywood movies (minions, ant man etc) which means that it is worth watching.Pakistani cinema is improving day by day. Projects like these show us that finally our industry is moving in the right direction. One should admire Mahira khan's acting skills in the movie, i'm anxiously looking forward to her bollywood debut in Raees. So go out and enjoy the show

Worth Watching with minor flaws
mustafaabidali19 July 2015
Great Pakistani romantic film with excellent songs, photography and background score. Direction was good however, a lot of scenes kept going back and forth between countries which became confusing at times.

Mahira Khan's acting was amazing, she is a naturally gifted actress.

Humayun Saeed needs to retire. His acting was boring, least inspiring and he looked quite old in front of Mahira. If they had opted for Fawad Khan instead, this film would have been extra special.

First half of the film was superb, whilst the second half dragged a bit.

Overall a great a film and worth watching for sure….two thumbs up!!

A masterpiece
asn61520 July 2015
I don't usually vote movie this high but this one was exceptional. All along the movie, the viewer doesn't lose attention. The characters are complete and appropriate. Story line is really good and acting is the real strength of the movie. Mahira has done a brilliant job and unexpectedly Humayun Saeed has also done his part right. The best thing about the movie is its music. Without an item number or traditional romantic songs, the movie has managed to not only keep the audience entertained but also emotionally involved at times. All the songs are best suited for the situations. The movie has one the best soundtrack I have ever listened to.

Its a complete movie with emotions, drama and thrill all along the 116 minutes of the movie. For all the people who love to watch romantic, drama genre and are fond of music/songs in movies, its a must watch and absolutely worth the money. People who are typical Bollywood movies fans, do not watch it, its not for you.

Missed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BIN ROYE, what it makes to make a real classical love story family drama flick. A good script, brilliant screenplay great music, flawless direction , superb acting and melodious music. Just to mention some of the all-time family drama romantic movies like Silsila, Kabhi Alvida na Kehna , Saajan, Ashqui etc had all these ingredients (even though I don't market Bollywood movies any more) and moviegoer came out of cinema emotionally attached to these movies. Now question rises does BIN ROYE has these ingredients or not, talented Hamuyun Saeed along with Mahira Khan and the director Momina Duraid who is very well known in making great dramas. Bin Roye had everything to be a great love story ever told on silver screen but alas it didn't seems to happen. Momina Duraid the director seems to make a drama serial of 120 Mins or so not a movie, from acting to dialogues , Bin Roye had its loop wholes which spoil a great love story into a just an average movie. The acting, Humyun Saeed and Mahira Khan both disappoints, even though both had a great margin but director has not been able to use their full talent. Its totally underacting, scenes may have been much much better , Question rises was Humayun Saeed was a right choice if same role has been done by Fahad Mustafa or Fawad Khan or Humza Ali Abbasi, Mahira khan even though has done better acting but definitely acting may have been much better. Music is the strong area of the movie. On positive side , as one of the first movie from Momina Duraid as a Director, we hope next time she does justice to her movie direction, as a Pakistani Movie not a bad one but surely BIN ROYE may have been a great love story. On the whole just an OK movie, which surely have been a great movie but the director seems to be confused that either it's a drama for HUM TV or a silver screen movie. Acting 4.5/10 Story 7/10 Music 8/10 Direction 4/10 Overall 6/10

Crap

Total waste of time. poor sequence. don't waste your time and money. The plot is so silly that by the last 20 minutes we were just anxious to leave. Pakistani directors need to learn from their Indian neighbors how to properly make a movie. Save your money guys. This movie really isn't worth it.

First interval, I didn't understand the relation between Humayun Saeed and Mahira Khan as she was showing herself to Humayun Saeed like a wife. And then if she was going to marry someone who already married with a child then whats the point of not accepting Humayun Saeed. Totally Nonsense film.

Excellent romantic movie
Hamidlatif27 July 2015
A must watch for everyone, every age, every gender. It's my first review ever but after watching this movie I was compelled to write one. An excellent movie worth watching. We all went (my wife, my kids, even my brother in-law and my father in-law) yes all of us :). The only confusion we now have is why would some one not like it . My brother in-law who has already watched this movie went with us again to watch it . He wouldn't let us speak even a single word while watching the movie.

I admit that we went with a hesitation because of all the mixed reviews and because also the competitive movie was "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" in short we are all happy that we watched this one!!

Though based on an ages old plot, it is a beautifully shot film with a fine leading act, a soothing background score and a likable soundtrack.
bobbysing2 August 2016
Hyped as Pakistan's much awaited venture capable of reviving their film industry, BIN ROYE had big expectations to fulfill both in Pakistan and India. But sadly it couldn't get a decent release in our country because of a ban imposed in Maharashtra and only one show release in the few major cities finding no audience due to lack of information or publicity.

Talking about India in particular, the one and only factor responsible to create some sort of curiosity for the film remained its lead star Mahira Khan, who was simply loved by the Indian audience in the TV serial HUMSAFAR aired at Zindagi Channel. The talented actress is also fondly remembered by those lucky ones who had seen her in the masterpiece creation BOL released a few years back. And as per the latest news, the girl has bagged a major role in an upcoming Shah Rukh Khanmovie too which is nothing short of a life-time opportunity in her rising film career indeed.

BIN ROYE is said to be based on Farhat Ishtiaq's novel BIN ROYE AANSOO that surprisingly has an ages old 'seen before' plot of two sisters falling for the same boy. Though the novel might be a great read with its own engrossing detailing and much more, the film isn't an exceptional one considering its weak story progression, many major flaws and weird sudden jumps in time periods. Moreover with all those tears shed constantly on screen in its later half, the title loses all its meaning as 'Bin Roye' that literally means 'without crying'.

Beginning on a sweet note, there is too much happening too fast in its first half and the entirely predictable love triangle kills the excitement of watching something fresh within the opening hour itself. The story quickly moves through years without any visual justification and many characters get introduced only to be forgotten soon in the next scenes. For instance, I am still thinking for what purpose that young boy was brought in dancing in the wedding song along with Mahira indicating towards some new 'love possibilities'. In short, depending entirely on Mahira alone, BIN ROYE keeps progressing on a familiar path for an hour. But then just before the intermission, we have a well-enacted and directed emotional-breakdown scene that strongly makes a promise of something better coming ahead.

The second half commences with new hopes of seeing a fresh breakthrough happening in the clichéd plot. But an unexpected accident shatters all those hopes soon and the film goes back to the same old pattern of a love triangle heading towards a routine climax focusing on a silent relationship developing between its two lead characters fighting with their own inner tragedies.

However despite having the above mentioned major drawbacks and predictable story developments ignoring many important points such as the child and more, BIN ROYE doesn't actually allow you to rate it as a forgettable venture due to three visible merits overcoming its weaker points.

Firstly it's the emotionally powerful act by Mahira, who simply excels in her portrayal of guilt-ridden soul unable to feel the power of love anymore. The girl not only looks gorgeous on screen with her simple yet adorable presence, but also wins your heart with a powerhouse performance depicting the contrasting emotions felt by her character post intermission. No doubt she is going to be a major highlight of SRK's new film coming soon.

Secondly, BIN ROYE makes a stunning visual impact on the viewers through its rich colourful frames, eye-catching costume designing, beautiful art-direction and soothing background score, making it aesthetically appealing. And one truly feels like watching something great in terms of cinematography, capturing even the close ups quite artistically making you feel the pain.

Thirdly it's the film's catchy and likable soundtrack with many enjoyable tracks infusing new energy into the film at regular intervals. In fact a major reason why BIN ROYE becomes a decent watch remains its songs played in the backdrop just at the right moment like O Yaara, Maula, Tere Bina Jeena and more. As a matter of fact, for some unknown reasons, the composers across the border always manage to find the melody in their songs much better as per my personal opinion.

To sum it all, yes BIN ROYE hasn't got a novel storyline and also features many not so impressive supporting acts from Humayun Saeed, Armeena Rana Khan, Zeba Bakhtiar (of RK's Heena fame) and even Javed Sheikh (who is just wasted as the father). Still directors Momina Duraid and Shahzad Kashmiri successfully manage to keep the viewers thoroughly engrossed with their other visual & musical merits mentioned above and the film truly deserves to be seen by the Indian audiences for sure (who actually haven't witnessed an emotional love saga in Bollywood since the last decade or even more).

Unfortunately, in absence of any mention in the leading newspapers or media channels, almost 95% of the interested viewers remained uninformed about its India release this week causing a big loss both in terms of business as well as a decent cinema unable to reach its target audience. So do try to watch BIN ROYE post its home video release after a couple of months, especially for Mahira Khan and the musical- visual treat offered by its director duo from Pakistan.

Awful movie!!
nighatjavid22 July 2015
What a waste of time. Why even release a movie when you can't write a proper script. Don't waste your money on this awful movie donate the money to shaukat khanum instead. Humayun saeed has been doing amazing projects in the past how could he choose this!! After the interval I felt like pulling my hair !! The last part dragged on forever. They wanted to fit an entire 13 episode drama in to a movie. Acting is terrible Mahira's dressing is the only thing to look forward to. They tried to have a bollywood element in the movie. Please don't waste your time watching this stupid movie. Only thing to look forward to is mahira's dance/clothes and songs, and an attempt to make a pakistani movie close to bollywood.

Definitely not a winner
ammarsway21 July 2015
Salam , just watched this movie on 19th July at Cineplex Centaurus Islamabad it was the only show , to be honest I wasn't much excited as I already read the reviews of its premiere in Karachi where public said that story was weak but still I had some hope and faith but as soon as the movie started all the expectations went in vain from very first scene the movie seemed a typical traditional Pakistani fair where sweet dish was shown being prepared with dialogs very weak indeed but yet Mahira Khan caught your attention because of sharp colors used in dressing and sets anyway the movie then started with old typical girl loves boy plot where boy doesn't show much interest then later he goes abroad where he falls in love with someone and marries blah blah , then crying tears and every thing happens so quickly in this movie that you don't even know what is happening scene to scene details are not shown every thing is done in so hurry as if one's halwa was getting cold , it seemed as if they made this story for drama but later decided to put whole drama in 2 hour movie and that too forcefully so script was extremely poor and so weak it would have worked 15 years back but no chance in today's era. Acting was quite good by all three lead members Humayun was superb as usual with mature acting , Mahira was sharp , Armeena had small screen time but did her part best rest cast was wasted to be honest it seemed extra to me. Music was the best part of the movie with all 5 songs outstanding straight from the heart , background score was superb and fantastic really enjoyed all songs especially Maula Maula which was magical on screen especially songs 2nd part at the end . So for me this movie brings nothing new in revival of cinema no path breaking element in it but only contributes a little bit in revival cycle only tiny addition not much , with this cast they could have made a brilliant love story but chance missed and main culprit was bad script going no where any way not a recommendable piece of cinema . Overall 6/10 , Script 3/10 , acting 8/10 , Music 10/10.

Pathetic , Failed Romantic Attempt.
mustafaxaidi_gr817 September 2015
In Probability ,assigning it to sample point is invalid you assign it to events. On the Contrary, Filming just events is invalid you first define sample points(characters).you don't know anything about characters, nothing is defined you just see events happening lightning speed which looses the interest in movie. Music and Songs are good and overall its compilation of songs with little bit movie in between. Whole movie is filmed in two homes in Pakistan and for one they force you to assume its America. P.S: Hurrayy !!! Movie introduced Pakistan's first Super Girl "Mahira Khan". Super Power :Whoever she hates, got accident. Good Music.Good Songs.Good Acting.Average Cinematography.Poor Story line.Poor Direction.Very Poor Story Grip.

A beautiful film
maheenshakil19 July 2015
Honestly, this film was nothing short of a feast for your eyes. It was picturized beautifully and every scene had vibrant, dazzling colors. They did such a great job directing and shooting this movie; it is a huge achievement for Pakistani cinema! Mahira Khan's performance was absolutely amazing and highly commendable - not only did she look too beautiful for words in every scene, she had the acting skills to match. Armeena Rana and Humayan Saeed also did a great job in their respective roles, and overall this movie was 100% enjoyable to watch. It was intense and beautiful, and a perfect family film. Proud of Pakistan for this! We need more movies like this

Excellent Music, Superb Acting, Nice direction
asifabbasi19 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
It was an Amazing Movie overall. Its Music won't let you blink your eyes! Acting is superb! An example for those who thinks without item numbers and vulgar scenes- a movie can't be made. Only thing that could have been improved is direction- Some of the shots were Amazing, but few of them could have bee improved. Acting was Fabulous - Mahira khan was outstanding, Hamayu Saeed has done a very good Job. Areema was looking stunning. Story was good. I don't know how close it was from the Novel - but i am looking forward to watch its drama serial. Also, I am very excited to see revival of Pakistan Film industry, and i am hoping that i won't copy any Bollywood stuff. Music- 10/10, Acting- 10/10, Direction 7/10, Story 8/10

Did not live up to promotional hype
sundusshaikh25 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Good things: It was classy, colourful, well-performed and the songs were great! Great settings and no inappropriate content which I applaud.

Bad things: OK, firstly, the film went too fast. The scenes bopped around from America to Pakistan way to quickly without smooth transitions. The story was cliché and predictable - but could have been better executed. The accident of Humayun Saeed should NOT HAVE BEEN THERE - it seemed too much and too lame! And, it would have been better to cast Adeel Hussein with the actresses as opposed to Humayun, who seems too old for them (although he is a great actor).

Overall, I would say that I've seen better Lollywood films that were far less promoted, such as Main Hood Shahid Afridi and Bol - both of which had unique story lines and served as great entertainment - this is what should be unique to Lollywood - the NON-Cliché, unique story lines, the lack of vulgarity that is way to prominent in Bollywood and the powerful message.

Very bad movie
gaurav_fr23 August 2015
I didn't have high expectation from the movie but whatever little i had its even fail to pass on that. I watched one Pakistani Movie BOL after one friend of mine from Pakistan suggested me and i really liked that. however after that whatever Pakistani Movie i watched they were all crap i am not even able to watch them fully. This Movie at least was looking appealing but there is nothing in it. Worst acting except Zaba Bakhtiyar, she still looks good better than the lead actress Mahira other actress looks good but don't how to act. Hero is a big disaster, Its funny to see that guy can't even deserve a character artist role but has been given a opportunity to romance with two girls. Direction is also bad, editing was pathetic however location in this movie are quite good and thats the only good point i found. Hope to see a good Pakistani film next time.

Director has done a very good work. Shiraz Uppal has done a very good job in making the music of the movie , you really enjoy the songs. Movie is made realistic and sports common life in Pakistan. In short it is a must watch for Pakistani drama loving audience and other who enjoy love stories written very beautifully. If you will try to keep going with the story you will really enjoy the movie. You cannot miss movies like this if you support cinema in Pakistan.

Pathetic Movie
fakruatrueindian26 July 2015
This movie is a waste of time. NO STORY LINE, NO CHARACTER Definition. It is a waste of time seriously and guess what the first half of the movie is so BOOOOORING They have wasted a lot of money on this i wonder why is no one talking about the story as it has been repeated again and again in Bollywood many times. I would not even give 1 star to this but I am giving it because of Mahirah Khan(i am a big fan of her). Humayun Saeed proved once again that he might have good links in Lollywood otherwise the way he looks and act nobody would like to spend penny on him. Total waste of time. They should have hired a better script writer much better script writer. Seriously. BAD and BAD MOVIE. Watch only if you are a big fan of Mahirah like me. I think Mahira has to wait a bit more to get a good movie like BOL again.

Worth Watching - Great Reboot to Pakistani Cinema!
farankmirza22 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Pakistani Cinema is currently in the process of making a name for itself. As such, this movie provides an excellent opportunity and platform to grow further and build upon. Critics may point out that cinema in Pakistan has been at it for years. Churning out one forgettable title after another. It is true that once-upon-a-time, Lahore was a center for great cinematic productions; And the last 30 years of cinema in Pakistan have witnessed a slow and steady decline. Both in quality and the sheer numbers of films made. This film changes that, and this is why a film like "Bin Roye" is an important milestone.

** Warning ** Contains Spoilers **

The movie (almost entirely) centers around Mahira Khan, and she has done well to do justice to the role. The dialogue and story line have a couple of weak links (no major plot holes), but overall, the concept and execution are apt. Without spoiling the movie for fans, its a treat to watch on the big screen, and the quality of the production is on par with current international titles as can be judged by the sudden accident scene, which is second only to the one done in "Meet Joe Black".

There are three key take aways from this film.

First and foremost, Films from Pakistan have the possibility to carve a spot of their own on the International film arena based on a niche that is not yet fully explored. This film only scratches the surface of what else may be possible. In short, greater films can be done.

Secondly, It is a greatly refreshing experience to walk into a movie theater without the apprehension of witnessing indecent or vulgar cinema. Art in its most beautiful form is pure, enlightening, dignified and entertaining. Its good to see movies that promote that.

Finally, and last-but-not-the-least; We are capable of exploring subjects that have not yet been opened up by others. This uniqueness, this individuality, as "Bin Roye" has aptly explored, holds a promise for a future that is bright for Cinema. The subject of this film may be the run of the mill romance and just-another-form of unrequited love, but the depth of expression and the display of emotions surrounding this melodrama are so unique in a cultural context, that the film "Bin Roye" manages to carve a genre on its own. This is a key strength, and this innovation to directly invoke and display culture through film is an enlightening experience. As a movie fan, I enjoy experiences that I can relate with, and a film close to my culture, is the one that is dear to the heart and soul.

Momina Duraid has opened a door, and if future films follow this path, there can only be greater fame and success.

Not THAT good
jaza_faheem2 August 2015
I came out of this movie with mixed feelings.

The story line and the dialogues were cliché, boring and extremely predictable. It is basically a Pakistani drama turned into a movie. I wasn't that impressed by the acting either. The main actor was definitely too old to play the role and casting him with Mahira Khan was no doubt a big mistake...the couple looked odd and awkward together and that was a massive blow to the movie.

The direction, songs and setting however was a work well done.It was extremely colorful and glamorous. Had it not been for those, I would have forever mourned the loss of my time and money.

It just depends on what you consider a good movie to be. People who have low tolerance for shallow plot lines, steer clear.

Master Piece with pieces of Blunders
anjanladka200028 July 2015
BIN ROYE Director: Momina Duraid, Shahzad Kashmiri Writer: Farhat Ishtiaq Producer: Hum Films

**Starring Jawaid Sheikh, Zeba Bakhtiyar, Humayun Saeed, Mahira Khan, Armeena Rana Khan

a movie based on novel BIN ROYE ANSOO written by Famous Digest, TV writer Farhat Ishtiaq, screenplay is also written by the same writer. The movie generic is romantic drama; literally it's a complete and pure drama, not a single moment we cannot assume that we are watching a film. Good Script, Depth Message, Good Pasteurize. Mahira Khan acting was on the top again after Serial HUMSAFAR.

There are also numbers of blunders:- 1- Humayyun Saeed is not fit for the role of Irtaza, he looks much older than Mahira and Armeena. Ali Zafar, Fawad Khan, Mikael suited the role. 2- Mahira never looks a younger sister of Armeena even she looks older than Armeena more than 7 years old. 3- Why Director, Writer force for USA location instead it was Dubai, why forced it was USA? 4- One by One Dead forcefully why? first Hummayun Saeed's parents, then Armeena… are they accidental family? 5- Film start Pre-Marriage of forcefully young Hummayun with beard still looks 45 years, Mahira looks 32 after continuity of 7-8 years both looks still old and same. 6- How Armeena Knows Mahira's Secret love? Even Hero don't know's? However a great watchable movie

I waste of time
alikhans31619 July 2015
I was excited to see Mahira Khan and the previews of this movie looked really good. Well folks...don't waste your time and money. The plot is so silly that by the last 20 minutes we were just anxious to leave. Basically we were making fun of the movie the entire time, and the last parts just dragged on. The acting is also terrible. Mahira Khan is pretty good, everyone else needs to take major acting lessons. The pace of the movie was super fast...it's almost as if they wanted to fit an entire Pakistani drama series into a 2 hour movie. But then again some parts were so slow it was cringe-worthy. The only reason I am giving it 3 stars is because I actually enjoyed the clothes/song/dance. The definitely tried to have the Bollywood element in the movie and at least that part was semi-enjoyable. However, Pakistani directors need to learn from their Indian neighbors how to properly make a movie. Save your money guys, this movie really isn't worth it!

Good Job Guys! Keep it coming!
ashershah20 July 2015
Great job by the fledgling Paki film industry (i.e. Lollywood is not to be counted as part of the current wave. This ain't no lolly! This is Pak TV transformed for the Widescreen!)

I always knew the "BUDGET" is not a factor to justify the crappy lollywood productions. Excellent work from a good team. This of course needs further improvement, but excellent progress in such a short span of time.. The cinema house in Sydney was PACKED.. this doesn't happen often.. not even for Bollywood..

I can see everyone loved Mahira Khan's acting but to me she has the same style of acting everywhere which sometimes makes it a bit monotonous.. but nonetheless this is good entertainment..
