I Wish I Had Chosen Something Else Instead

Warning: Spoilers
I had never heard of this movie before and thought I'd give it a try. I'm usually fairly easy to please when it comes to movies, but if it were possible to give this movie a zero or even a minus rating I would have. I can't help but wonder if some of the high ratings are from friends and family? I have absolutely nothing good to say about it. It's supposedly based on a true story but at the end it says practically everything was changed. Maybe they should have stuck closer to the real story as much as possible. I think if they were going to change everything anyway they might as well have written a better storyline while they were at it. The acting was so-so. It's really hard to tell sometimes when it's a badly written script.

This movie is ridiculous
distinguished_diane14 July 2020
It uses God's name negatively & repeatedly throughout the movie. Whoever made this movie is not a follower of Christ. I am a Christian and I was in a cult for years. In my opinion, this movie is a false representation of cult living and Christianity.

Gripping true story

The acting was good. However no character had any likability, or any redeeming feature. Other than that, it held my attention until the end.

Warning: Spoilers
We see here basically the pitfalls of these religious sects. They are very dangerous to the core. They begin to have tremendous influence over the people who are in it, and sometimes deadly consequences are the very results of membership.

These cults shut out all phases of life as depicted in the film. There usually becomes totally blind obedience to the cult leader, who is always supposedly extremely dedicated to his beliefs, and will stop at nothing, even if it means that others get hurt.

We all see here the idea of homosexuality interfering and even when stories are made up, and people are absolved from alleged crimes, the stigma remains with them for life.

Not great but for an LMN movie, pretty good.

Warning: Spoilers
LMN movies are usually on the T.V. because my mom watches a lot of them so I often find myself involuntarily listening or even watching them. Most of the time these movies are terribly mediocre and have the same types of plots over and over again. Either it's about a kidnapping, a crime/murder, or a stupid high school drama that ends up turning into something more serious. However this movie has a different type of storyline and plot altogether and it's really refreshing. This movie shows just how dangerous and manipulative religious cults or any type of cult can be. The acting isn't perfect but I feel like it's pretty decent for a LMN movie. The movie also deals with homosexuality, abuse, and religious fanaticism and can be quite dark at times so be warned about that as well. Overall I feel that this is a cut above your average LMN movie and it's a not a bad one either.
