Saloniki, Greece: The giant German Zeppelin, brought down by British guns near this city, and destroyed by fire, is brought into Saloniki to be viewed by the populace. New York: General Cipriano Castro, former dictator of Venezuela, is detained at Ellis Island, and orders are issued for his deportation. Baltimore: The B.P.O. Elks of the nation take part in an annual meeting of the lodge here, and hold a grand parade. Galveston, Texas: The new sea-wall which protects this city against floods, is used as a promenade along the beach where thousands of bathers enjoy the Gulf of Mexico surf. Ossining, N.Y: Thomas Mott Osborne returns to Sing Sing Prison as Warden, cleared of charges that caused his removal, and the entire population of the penitentiary and the city turns out to bid Tom Brown a joyous welcome. Along the New Jersey Coast: Sharks spread terror among bathers in places where man-eating fish never before appeared.
