I know this review is harsh but, I suppose that this film merits it because it amounts to absolutely nothing.
The acting is very wooden and you can feel the director's pretension from the first frame. There are too many elements going on in this "short" EX: the brother's masochistic tendencies, the grandma almost getting sexually assaulted by a military man, and the lead's uneven friendship with his best friend. None of it works, it didn't build tension and it all falls flat.
It has an interesting story, set in a time in Indonesia that no one really pays attention to but these "political" things could not safe this movie's pretentiousness. It's trying to talk about themes and such, but ultimately it's hurt by its style and poor wooden acting.
