Too fast!
RanDizzle11987 November 2019
The little 'info' bubbles appear and disappears far too fast. The show is funny, interesting and informative. I only wish the wee info bubbles stayed in screen a wee bit longer. Otherwise this show would have had an almost perfect score of 9.5. The show makes a person long for travel to some destinations within Europe. I have started on the very last season and am working my way backwards and have only seen European travel but it makes this travel junkie Canadian quite interested in going back to preacious destinations where I feel I have missed things now and also visit new places. Must get on an an airplane NOW!!!

Richard Ayoade is the Travel Man
safenoe6 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm enjoying catching up on the older episodes (I'm now watching the first one, the one where Richard Ayoade and Kathy Burke travel to Barcelona). Anyway, I like Travel Man: 48 Hours in... because of its dry humor and wit and brevity. Actually I wouldn't mind if each episode went for an hour because there's so much to see.

I'd really like to see Richard travelling with Danny Dyer and Felicity Kendal, as they would be wonderful travelling companions. Also I'd really like to see Richard in places like Carlisle (in the UK), Oxford, Cambridge, Turkish Cyprus and also San Marino, Andorra and Vatican City.

Funny and Informative
edavidathome15 September 2023
Richard is very funny in his role of the tour guide. It's no coincidence to me that the best episodes are when his guests don't try and match his wit. Luckily there are only a couple of episodes which fall flat due to his guest trying to chip in too much. I love the information he gives us and the scenery at times is beautiful. His socially awkward act (wether it's true or not) works beautifully, he is so perfect in his role of presenting this program that you can watch these episodes over and over. Kathy Burke is one of my favourite programs as you can always imagine her being such great, honest company. Richards boots are too big to fill, but he left us with some great memories.

Perhaps the best TV show ever
pascalmcbride-730181 January 2017
The dry humour of Richard Ayoade is beyond compare; seemingly mundane happenings are made hilarious by this absolute hero as he travels around various countries and cities experiencing what they have to offer, as well as giving sound travel advice. His quiet sarcastic comments to foreigners who don't fully understand him brings a joy that is difficult to find elsewhere. Every episode brings several minutes worth of uncontrollable laughter, which is hard to find elsewhere. Richard Ayoade is by far my favourite comedian at the moment, anything he lends his hand to is pure gold. I look forward to anything else he may be appearing in, particularly if the rumours of the Great British Bakeoff are true.

I could watch this show on repeat indefinitely forever.

Quircky travel show with a fresh take on some classic destinations for a short mini break, a must see for all travel show enthusiasts!
NikkiFromSiberia14 April 2017
The sexy and incredibly charming Richard Ayoade does it again! His unique take on a travel show manages to make you laugh out loud while appreciating the classic beauty of the (mainly European) cities shown. He brings one famous person along in each episode and it's just a good time all around! His deadpan sense of humor, rich quirky vocabulary and over all unmistakable charm make for a very entertaining travel show. Comedy and travel....what more can you ask for? I hope it gets many more seasons because watching it is a blast! (and frankly because i just can't get enough of this witty, funny, charming and sexy man) Best episodes are the Paris, Budapest, Florence and Vienna one! A must-see for travel show addicts like myself!

10x better than the typical travel show
KingMushCharva2 September 2019
No offence to people who make travel shows such as Martin Clunes (and a few others) but they're boring.

However Richard puts a new spin on it, I actually hate travel shows yet he's managed to make me watch almost every episode. The man is comedy genius.

The odd clothing, the hair, the phrases he comes out with. It all comes together to make a brilliant tv show.

And for those who get bored of him, he has a celebrity guest each trip to keep it fresh. (And they're not washed up has beens either)

A quick wit and subtle humor makes the show
bcmcandrew16 February 2020
I adore this show and this man. He has an off beat humor that I can see some reviewers dont appreciate, but I can't get enough of! You have to listen carefully, his comments and narration have had me laughing even days later. This is not a show for people looking for a serious and in depth look at a destination. Rather, it's for the quirkiness of each locale and the unusual offerings you might otherwise miss. I happened to love the fact that he went to Paris, looked at the line for the Louvre, and noped out. It's kind of fantastic. Go get a certificate and make macarons instead! I enjoy the fresh take, the litany of facts, his incredibly dry and glib persona. It even makes me laugh to see when some of his guests not know what to make of him, and delight when they take him in stride and just enjoy the unexpected journey. A treasure. *I've never reviewed a show or movie ever*I really just get a kick out of him*

Informative and fun to watch

Richard brings his comedic charm to the series, while still providing a detailed overview of sites and expectations for each destination. The celebrity guests are an added bonus. This show is well done!

Entertaining, sure; Informative, not so much
wormsrcool-534-2103314 November 2019
This show used to be a perfect blend of informative travel advice and comedic value, but recently has become solely the latter.

A number of recent episodes have featured destinations I've recently visited; Little to no mention is given to main attractions or highly regarded restaurants, but rather to 'quirky' attractions that only the 1% who have an abundance of time would partake in.

Take the most recent episode, Kraków, for example. Half a day wasted in a noddy car excursion, where even Richard comments on the pointlessness of their visit to a soviet war location. Two hours spent on a bread making class, where again Richard comments about the lack of involvement in a so called 'class'. Perhaps their only relevant and useful content was their visit to the Wieska salt mines, which is a must if visiting Kraków!

Should someone spending 48 hours in a top european city entertain over half of the suggestions in this episode? Absolutely not. There are far more exciting and relevant things to see and do in this city that could easily be covered in 30 'minz', and unfortunately this applies to most, if not all, of the recent episodes of Travel Man.

Moral of the story is, watch Travel Man for some light hearted humour, but ignore any of Richard's suggestions and organise your visit with Trip Advisor.

Hilarious travel show!
AndreaIRL12 July 2020
When you find your self rewinding the show so you don't miss any details, you know you've found a great show. Sardonic to no end, Richard Ayoade will not spare his feelings to the camera or the locals, good or bad. LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY, even if half of the references are lost on me because I'm not British.

AND THE OUTFITS! Richard can be seen wearing yellow pants, a yellow chore jacket, and a blue neck tie like it's no big deal. Shout out to the stylist.

Hilarious Show: Rating Based on Episodes with Richard Ayoade
bertorecuerza29 September 2022
As an American, I apologize if anyone from Britain sees this and is offended. I was introduced to this show on the Samsung TV Plus app on a channel called Journy. The first time I turned it on, I almost turned it off because I couldn't understand a lot of what was being said through the accent, mostly because I was doing other things and every time I looked up, they were at a restaurant or bar and it seemed boring.

When I finally paid attention, it was one of the most hilarious shows I've seen. Just two people wandering an unfamiliar city with only 48 hours to do it and Richard has such a sarcastic and witty (though some times dry) delivery, it makes the whole show. I still can't understand some of what is being said between the accent and some times Richard isn't loud enough, but at least twice an episode, he says something that makes me laugh hard enough for so long, I miss some of the next part. Luckily, I saw on Tubi (which is free), that they currently have seasons 1-8 (except season 3, which is a shame, because I want to see what he says about NYC, which was that season - and all I got to see are his hilarious comments to trying his first cro-nut) and a few specials that are basically longer episodes.

I thought maybe it stopped at Season 8 due to COVID and travel restrictions, but I see there are 10 seasons and Richard chose not to be part of it any more and the ratings went down. Understandable, since he really was the show and I cannot see it being done with anyone else. My only complaint is that due to the 48 hour limit, it seems a bit rushed at times (and I am guessing that is why it seems like 1/3 of the places they go in some episodes are bars or restaurants), and it's surprising where they don't go when they are in a city with a big attraction, though that would probably take a full day. I wish they went to some cities and took 3-5 days to see his take on things we've all seen, because I know he'd have some funny things to say.

Best Travel Show Evar.

Dancing? What's it for?

/me gives Richard an awkward high five that doesn't quite connect properly.

Needs another season! The diversity of people he manages to convince to come along with him to these places is brilliant. One of my favourite episodes was probably the Paul Rudd one, genuine wtf moment.

We watched it, but should we have?
curtquentien20 June 2022
A few minutes into watching Travel Man I dismissed it as yet another travel show hosted by a pretentious Brit, but after 10-15 minutes I realized, wait, this is something different. As much as I love travel (who doesn't) I typically find myself bored with travel shows. Here, I actually appreciate Richard's dry sense of humor, quirkiness, and deep trove of facts. And although some celebrity guests are better than others I found myself binge watching the entire series. It's not the best TV, but certainly not the worst ... give it shot, you might be surprised.

Cringeworthy
anna932994 March 2022
Although sometimes interesting and informative, Travel Man is uncomfortable watching. The attitude of Ayoade (which is often mirrored by his travelling companion) leaves me embarrassed to be British.

The majority of people who travel do so with an open mind and because they have a genuine interest in other cultures and traditions. However, Ayoade is arrogant, condescending and has seeming distain for local customs and people. Take for instance the episode on Budapest - one of the most beautiful, vibrant and culturally diverse cities in the world. Richard and companion Aisling Bea mocked talented musicians and local traditions and complained about the food. Throughout the whole episode, both appeared dismissive, unengaged and closed minded and did not have a single positive comment for the city or the local people.

Why are people like this presenting a travel show? Their attitudes are in direct contrast to those of other travel presenters such as Joanna Lumley or Simon Reeve who show genuine awe, enthusiasm and respect. I get that Ayoade's attitude may be an attempt at humour to engage with Generation Z, but shouldnt we be encouraging mutual respect and setting a good example for future generations?

Not for the traveler but for the bucket list tourist
shilpimahajan25 September 2022
This is the worst travel show I have seen. Richard tries to be comical in the name of disrespecting other cultures and countriesz

Typical American/British behavior warped in insults. And of course, you can do something in 48 hrs when you have access to choppers and what not. Barely touches the enthusiasm of an adventurer or the curiosity of an honest investigator.

I had excitedly opened this thinking this would be akin to Anthony Bourdain's show but Richard disappoints. No doubt he has a funny bone but it is not funny when its directed at someone else's cultures, food and belief.

I wouldn't recommend wasting time.

Utterly pointless
mrsatyre22 June 2022
I think he's a very funny guy, but none of these episodes really say or do anything that couldn't be said or done anywhere. There's zero connection to the places he goes or the people he meets, and his guests that tag along don't contribute anything to the humor or the travel experiences. He might as well have just stayed home.

Getting boring now. Joke setups can be spotted a mile off and opportunities missed to ensure that each place is unique. Shame

I fell asleep while watching
hillar-3688110 January 2020
I love travel shows because I enjoy traveling. However, this show is such a bore. Richard's choices of what to do in 48 hours are boring. He also has a dry sense of humor that is not funny on this show. I'm not laughing but rather saying, "Please stop."

Also, Richard please stop showing us museums. Even Anthony Bordain mentioned many times throughout his travel shows that he does not go to museums while traveling. Why? Because they are a bit boring. So watching someone at a museum is even more boring.

Not good
cbarnhart-973-5122725 May 2022
I love Richard Ayoade, so I really wanted to love this show. I don't feel I learned much about any of the places visited, and some of the guests might as well have been bumps on logs (looking at you, Cathy Burke).

If Moss and Magda can't make one of the most interesting cities on the planet seem even remotely appealing or a place one would want to visit, it sort of fails as a travel show.

Some of the bits were very amusing, but I would have rather just watched a comedy routine than celebrities touring museums and talking about how they don't like the art.

I found the entire series flat, and was much more about everyone paying attention to Richard Ayoade's wacky presence. Could have just stayed home for that.

Mostly irritating
mailtodesre27 December 2021
The most irritating thing about this show, apart from the presenter's obnoxiousness, is the utter disrespect with which he time and again throws his dirty suitcase onto each hotel's bedlinen.

Classic "Ugly American" Behavior with a British Accent
virul-8366710 July 2021
What an embarrassment. Sophomoric humor that ridicules the customs, cultures, foods and histories that many of us seek out and cherish in our travels. For reference, Bourdain was a class act because of his respect and reverence for other people around the world whether comfortable and familiar to him or not. Travel Man targets anything outside his little sphere and goes for the cheap laugh. I'm guessing that most of his fans are less experienced world travelers, more those looking to poke fun at anyone or thing that's not just like themselves.

Those who are well-travelled know exactly what I'm talking about.
