This short documentary film about the Marseilles harbor, its diminishing fleet of sailing ships, and the men, women and businesses who support them, looks forward to an era of mechanical ships, without the grace, beauty, song, and love of a long tradition. Marseilles was founded about 600 BCE by Greek traders, on their way to pursue the Phoenicians who had beat them to Spain, had beat them to Great Britain, and were their serious competitors for control of the world at the time. Never mind that sailing ships is arduous, dangerous work. There is a grace about a wind-powered ship that no noisy engine can match.
There are some lovely images, and some well performed songs in this movie.
