Barely not the worst
ekwetherington15 April 2021
This movie holds it together just enough to eke out a second star and nothing more. Not scary, not funny, not much of anything. Plus the final girl is such a stick in the mud that you end up rooting for the ghost.

Starts okay to finish awfully
deloudelouvain25 June 2018
I thought the first half of The Haunted House On Kirby Road was all right, with a couple good laughs and not much (or any) horror at that point. The acting wasn't bad either, not spectacular but not annoying either. And then came the second part. The part that is supposed to be the horror side of the movie. Now, that was pretty lame, if not awful at some point. The acting changed completely from being okay to bad. The horror scenes, if you can call them like that, are very badly done, quite the opposite of the first half of the movie where I thought the cinematography was more than decent. And even if you would like to pass the horror scenes as humor it didn't work at all, it was just bad. The movie ratings dropped at that point. Before the 'horror' I would have rate it a six but now a three is more than fair enough.

Horror or a Joke?
Tensa_Tengoku30 April 2020
In my own opinion, this movie was not even good of a horror film. If it was up to me I would have given this movie one star, but I'll be lying if I said "I did not enjoyed all scenes" there were some that caught my attention. This movie had some comedic scenes that I enjoyed and got aroused at one particular scene. I enjoyed those those two parts theme of the movie. However, the horror, it was not even good. It's like the writer of this movie does not know anything about ghost/demonic lores and just wrote based on how they saw stuff through. I recommend, do not watch this movie, is just waste of time.

indie horror
SnoopyStyle19 August 2017
Six young friends watch a video of a haunted house on the internet. One of them recognizes the person in the video. They decide to check out the haunted house on Kirby Road.

It's a low budget Canadian indie horror. The setup is fine if rather plain. The condom scene has one hilarious laugh. It's a good start but it stagnates upon arriving at the house. It takes awhile for the horror to start. In fact, it's well into the second half. The actors are ready to scream but the house is not up to the challenge. It's an indie horror that fails to be scary.

As bad as it gets
milesd-905296 August 2018
I love horror, just about seen all there is and I've seen some really awful movies in the mix. This one is in the top three for worst horror movie. It's not a horror in the slightest. The first part was ok, some funny bits, quite entertaining. The director should have kept that bit going and forget about the horror in the second part. It didn't work on any level. THIS IS A VERY BAD MOVIE, SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND DONT WATCH IT.

"I hate this already."
ParabolaofMystery4 October 2021
This movie has, hands down, the most annoying, obnoxious, insufferable cast of 'teenagers' I have ever seen. I don't understand why any of them are friends. I don't understand why any of them HAVE any friends. Even the Final Girl is fairly unlikeable. And don't even get me started on 'Truggers' (The worst nickname in the world, by the way.)- I figure they're all just using him for his stepdad's shed.

I see reviews praising the film's beginning, but I don't get that at all. It's just a bunch of on-the-nose dialogue setting up who's who and what's what and jerks being mean to each other. And don't even get me started on the extended sequence of us watching our 'heroes' watch videos on the internet.

Even as boneheaded as the screenplay was I still chuckled a few times at some of the lines, so at least the actors were putting all they could into their awful characters. But I was more often laughing at things that the filmmakers probably not intend for me to laugh at.

In short, this movie sucks on wheels. Avoid at all costs.

Trash movie, not funny not scary
RandomTard13 October 2021
This weird turd is some kind of a teen comedy with horror elements and the mess just doesn't work, mostly because everything is done so horribly badly. Script is childish, acting very poor, characters are annoying and you just wish them to die fast and finally there is the most irritating sound effect played all the time towards the end.

We have these 3 nerds that somehow just have 3 hot girls ready to hang with them for some reason. Now of course everybodys smoking weed but nobody is high, although it's a bit bad taste to have a "teen" driver under the influence. Now clearly we are to think them as underage, though the description for the movie calls them 20-somethings which seems more likely since the actors don't look like teens.

All other people we see are a store clerk that is a strange pervert (I didn't know buying condoms was so difficult in USA) and a crazy cop that serves no purpose to the movie what so ever.

Now we finally get to the haunted house where we endure some stupid clichés from every teen movie ever and then we get to enjoy the stupidest thing ever invented in movie history - the sound of heartbeat being played loud every other minute to tell you that something scary might happen. That sound makes you wanna puch the sound guy of this sad excuse of a movie.

Really Bad American Pie with a bit of silly Horror!
Moviereeeels126 August 2018
... really bad, has an opening horror piece then almost an hour of American Pie humour, then some really badly done horror for the last 20 mins. Budget is quite low, and the acting generally ok, the horror stuff is laughable .... waste of time and money , if i could give it a minus score i would.

Boo? More like Boooooo! See what I did there?
davidnhewko30 October 2017
It really sucked. Within the first 10 minutes, I knew I had made a very big mistake. I watched it on my computer and it became plan b to whatever else I could find on the internet. I don't know how it ended and I'm sure it doesn't matter. The only good part was this awesome hip-hop song that played while they were in the convenience store, it was such a cool sounding song that I came here to see if I could learn more. I don't see anything IMDb and if you don't have this info, who does? Google brought me here!

Edit - That song is by Slaine and it's called "99 Bottles" and it's awesome!

Indie Horror at its finest
akemp-3964530 May 2018
Its been awhile since I've seen a horror film that didn't seem like its sole purpose was to out gore all those before it & The Haunted House on Kirby Road was a refreshing break from that. For me this movie delivered exactly what I anticipated, a sort of Scream-esque mix of light-hearted funny scenes mixed with enough scary ones that made me momentarily afraid to look in the mirror when I got out of the shower later that day. A Horror movie that can stir up your imagination enough to still creep you out hours later rather than just make you nauseous with blood and guts to me is film worth watching!

Unscary, and superfluous, save one or two surprisingly good scenes.
johannes2000-128 January 2021
The first say twenty minutes weren't that bad at all. Somehow the director succeeded in picturing the boredom of blasé teens very well, like "chilling" together without a clue how to fill the time or what to talk about. See for instance how they morosely hung in their seats in the haunted house, before the things got rough. There's also a short but brilliant scene when they stop at a gas-station to buy condoms, and the guy at the counter insists on giving an educational demonstration, really hilarious.

But this movie set out to be a horror flick, and here it failed completely. The premise was far fetched to begin with (but hey, what horror-premise isn't?!), and the subsequent goings-on were ludicrous and totally unscary, not even amusing in a campy sort of way.

In short, a superfluous wannabe horrorflick, with in a few scenes the shimmering of real cinematographic potential.

Horror by numbers.... eventually
brunovanael26 December 2020
It took them about an hour to get to the horror, but I can see why. Gently put not the best part wich is a shame for a movie in a genre called horror. Before that a somewhat ok young kids hangout.

Surprised with how funny this was
kimmiegibbler2 November 2018
Came for a spooky movie and was surprised with how funny it was. I legit laughed a bunch of times and felt like the characters were all a smart parody of what you would find in these types of movies. I thought the horror was campy, but in this context, it worked. By no means is this a classic, but its got the feel of a cult classic for sure. If you like movies like evil dead, then you will prob like this one. I would recommend it.
