My time with the "Alien Breed" reboot trilogy came to a close with "Descent" the third and final game in the series. Similarly to the previous two games, though it was reasonably fun to play, ultimately the lack of variety really hurts the game.
With Conrad now on board the Leopold he sets his sights on destroying the AI Klein, that's inhabiting the body of MIA. He again fights of hordes of aliens to progress around the ship, unlocking doors, , clearing rooms, rebooting machinery and descending in lifts. However, Klein has a new creature at his disposal, a giant alien queen.
Though there were a few small differences between the first and second games, the differences between the second and third are really negligible. I believe it boils down to the addition of one extra gun, a sort of .. force field type weapon, that traps the aliens and dissolves them. The mechanism of buying upgrades from the save points remains, though I found that unlike in the second game, I wasn't able to upgrade everything by the time I reached the end.
As with the other two games, it was mostly a fun experience, provided that I kept it to short sessions and even then the repetitive nature of the game started to wear me down. Again, it's a procession of go here, open that door, clear that room, fetch that keycard, rinse and repeat. The boss battles do provide a little bit or variety, as does certain sections involving moving platforms - but mostly it is the same stuff over and over.
I don't regret my time playing any of these "Alien Breed" games, but I don't think I'll ever want to replay it, or delve into the survival or multiplayer modes.
