The two short Kurdish young men in this film, are living their life in a remote village, but still they are more or less bitten by football fever. The title refers to the matches between the two big and rich Spanish soccer clubs Barcelona and Real Madrid. The clubs are amongst the world biggest, and every of their meetings are referred to as "El clàsico".
With this as a back draft we get to learn about one of the brothers love to a young and not short grown girl. An impossible marriage, of course. How can he persuade her father to give him her hand for marriage? Could it be by showing his determination?
This is the Iraqi-Kurdish film maker Halkawt Mustafa's second feature film, after the fabulous "Red heart"/"Rødt hjerte", from which he impressed with in 2011, fresh out of film school in Norway.
Once again Mustafa has made an important and heartfelt feature love story about forbidden love. Financed in Iraqi Kurdistan and Norway, beautifully filmed and well acted. A little gem which touches you in all the right places. The actors are all do a great job, giving great realism to a story which could be true. The two brothers are themselves, and were not actors, but brothers Mustafa met on a trip, giving him the idea to the whole movie.
I was so lucky to once more see the film at at pre screening before meeting the director, which also has made the script, as well as being co-producer, just as I saw his first feature back in 2011. Once again I was impressed about both Mustafas determination in his film making, as well as by the story behind the film. A few weeks before this film was to premiere in Kurdistan, this film as already been screened in Dubai, Oslo and New York with a massive positive response, so as by critics.
Halkawt Mustafa came to Rjukan, Norway seeking political asylum back in 2001, and after college made it into film school. Here he once again shows that he really has a great talent. After Red heart in 2011, he has been working with television, and the TV documentary "The women ISIS fear".
Just as his first film, Red heart, this is an important film, wanting to change conditions of freedom in other Islamic countries in what we in the West feel is prehistoric traditions of family fathers deciding who their daughter are to marry.
