- A Scrooge of a father has less than 24 hours to change his attitude, in order to give his five year old daughter a Merry Christmas.
- Joe Kelly is a struggling sales rep for a small company, putting in extra hours to earn a Christmas bonus. Something his family is desperate for. His wife, Mary, has a child-like enthusiam about Christmas. While his five year old daughter, Holly, quite naturally, cant wait for Santas arrival The problem is, Joe grew up in a family that didnt celebrate Christmas. To him Christmas is nothing but a money grab. To him there is nothing special. No magic. So despite his wife and daughters influence, Joe is having a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit. In fact, the more he tries to get in tune with his familys way of thinking, the more he is bombarded by the things that irritates him about Christmas. Snow that has to be shovelled. Hunting for a Christmas tree. Maddening crowds. Last minute shopping. And the never ending need for him to take out his wallet. But when gifts they just bought for Holly are stolen from their car while shopping on Christmas Eve, Joe decides to put an end to the world of pretend and tell his daughter that there is no Santa Claus. However, when the time comes for his talk with Holly, he realizes he cannot tell her there is no Santa and with little money in his pocket, rushes to find a store that still might be open late. A frantic search leads him to a kindly store owner, who demonstrates to Joe the joy of giving and Joe returns home with a new understanding of Christmas. But it wont be until the next morning, when he experiences a Christmas Miracle, that Joe will finally come to believe there is a magic to Christmas.
