Monster Musume is set in a world where the existence of mythical creatures are real and their existence has been made public. These beings can only visit our world with permission and if they live with a human host as part of an exchange program. Protagonist Kimihito Kurusu has not volunteered for the scheme but still finds himself with a growing harem of 'monster girls'. This starts when Agent Smith accidentally delivers Mila to his house. Mila is a Lamia, a creature that is similar to a mermaid only her lower half is snake rather than fish-like. Kimihito feels sorry for her and lets her stay. As the series progresses more and more he meets more and more such creatures who end up living with him; these include a centaur, a mermaid and a harpy. These girls don't just live with him they all fall for him and get jealous of each other.
Viewers will know whether or not they are going to enjoy this series by the end of the first episode probably before that. It quickly becomes very apparent that this series will contain a lot of fan service and sexually suggestive moments so if that sort of thing offends give this series a wide berth. However if that doesn't bother you this is rather fun; the situations Kimihito finds himself in are pretty funny and sometimes laugh out loud hilarious. The monster girls are an interesting and amusing bunch; the fact that they are different mythical creatures means they are immediately distinctive. As well as all the comic situations there are also plenty of dramatic moments; when most of the girls are introduced they initially appear to be threats. The animation looks good and the girls' character designs are great. Overall I'd recommend this to fans of the harem genre just be aware that there is a lot of suggestive material included.
