Vain Efforts

Warning: Spoilers
A lot of stuff was thrown around, and when I see the overall rating, looks like people think about Gai vs Madara mainly. The real deal here was actually Hagoromo and the crazy power ups he gave to Naruto and Sasuke, and the cold abrupt resurrection. That's why the rate of this episode should be lower. Naruto is not surprised to learn that Ashura reincarnated on him (really?), and guesses that Sasuke is Indra's reincarnation while remembering (flashback to ep 219, confronting the Konoha friends about Sasuke) the reason of why feels different to fight him. This is weird, is implying that all this time Naruto felt a brotherly bond with Sasuke not because of him, but given the spirits of Indra and Ashura. Unbelievable. When Naruto asks about the others, Hagoromo explains about Hashirama and Madara, and the problem. When Madara implanted himself a tissue of Hashirama he ripped off during the battle, he awoke the Rinnegan. He could achieve this because obtained Hagoromo's chakra. The Rikudo Sennin tried to prevent this while leaving a message in the Uchiha's stone, but obviously didn't work. He confirms that he saw his sons fighting for generations, and that the ninshuu was supposed to distribute and connect the chakra in people. Hagoromo believes that if one person holds too much power, ends up dominated by it, like his mother and Madara. Kaguya became arrogant and lost control for having so much power, so she was feared as a demon. Now Madara is using the Juubi to get closer to his powers. He adds that the Infinite Tsukuyomi is not a simple genjutsu, it keeps the people dreaming and alive while using their force. Kaguya also had a Sharingan besides the pair of Byakugans, a frightening power she used on people. When chakra becomes one, A new fruit will emerge, if they don't stop it will be the end. Hagoromo tells Naruto to stop Madara, maybe his foolishness can make a difference. Naruto thanks him for believing in them, but Hagoromo thinks different. The world followed Indra, Kaguya's path, and when he sees the way the Bijuus were used, like weapons... Hagoromo says he was naïve, and if that was the natural course, his attempts to stop it were selfish. Suddenly, Shukaku and Gyuki appear, and update Naruto about what Obito is doing. Kurama other half also emerges, and says that a lot of things happened, but now is the moment, all the Bijuus are inside Naruto. Hagoromo tells that is just like Gamamaru (the Old Sage Toad) predicted, and praises Naruto, there's a reason of why Ashura chose him (when?), and why he could invoke his spirit. Then, the remaining seven Bijuus appear (out of nowhere), and Hagoromo tells that the child of the prophecy is here. He asks Naruto what is what he wants honestly: his answer is to protect his friends, that's all. At the same time, Sasuke had a similar conversation, and was asked the some question. His answer goes off screen. Hagoromo says that the past mistake was to leave all in Ashura's charge, so now decides to give power to Sasuke as well. Meanwhile, Naruto says that he and Sasuke are good friends now, they will make it. And so, Hagoromo grants his power to both of them, in their hands. At the other dimension, Sakura asks Obito how is Naruto, he says that soon they'll see. And then, Naruto wakes up, gets on his feet, says let's go, and all what Sakura reaches to do is say his name, happy. At the other side, Sasuke gets up easily, and also says let's go, while Karin and the others are with him. The detail is that Naruto has a sun drew on his hand, and Sasuke a moon. Disappointing, that's the word. This nullifies what Naruto has done during the past years. So much train, hard work, persistance, efforts, optimism, after the loneliness, discrimination, sadness, all in vain, because a spirit named Ashura with a similar personality chose him. And the story with Sasuke was predicted, already established. There's no free will, the young Neji was right all along. To make things worst, Hagoromo gives Naruto and Sasuke special powers out of nowhere, and encharges them to be the saviors. Poor Gai sensei. What an insult. The other horrible outcome was the scene when Naruto woke up. He is supposedly like Ashura and the Senjus, and love is the most important. But he stood up, like nothing, and left (just like Sasuke). No questions, no wait, no talk, no gratitude, no hug, no tears, no love. He acted like a cold blooded guy. From the moment Kurama was extracted, this was an awaited moment. And considering Sakura's desperate tireless efforts, her showed passion to keep Naruto alive, Gaara's persistance, the rush to save him, Minato's anguish and past worries with Kushina, I expected a memorable emotive welcome. With Naruto waking up slowly, asking where he is, how he survived, and sharing a warm hug with Sakura, his father Minato, Gaara, and Kakashi. And well, thanking Obito. More words, tears of joy because they almost lose him. And then, return to battle Madara. Instead, Kishimoto offered this cold welcome, with Naruto returning with alien powers. What a bummer. About the rest, the explanation about how Madara awoke the Rinnegan was acceptable. At least that makes sense. Still, I don't get what he did since the fight with Hashirama til the encounter with Obito. And well, curious detail to reveal that Kaguya had a pair of Byakugans. It's terrible because now I can't help but to think that all the Hyugas are descendants from a goddess demon. What an horrible revelation, worst because Naruto ends up married with a woman with those pair of eyes. The mistakes were to draw Kaguya with those eyes, and not to let Naruto end up with the girl he always loved, the one with green eyes.

The other part, shows Might Gai preparing his last technique. Lee knows it, and Kakashi remembers when he and his father found the young Gai and Dai after the failed entrance to the academy. Sakumo expected their sons to be classmates, until he learned the results from Dai. The young Kakashi belittled Gai's efforts given his weaknesses, but then Gai said "thanks for cheering up". Sakumo told his son not to be so self reliant just because he entered the academy, otherwise that kid will become stronger than him. The academy still didn't announce the vacants. He told him to remember the kid's name, he'll be a good rival, so Kakashi asked Gai's name. Now he says "Father, is just like you said". They all see Gai unleashing his last attack, the Yagai (Night Guy), and Madara sees that the generated wave disturbs space. Madara tells that as for taijutsu, he never fought someone stronger. Gai then charges forward with a furious speed and gives a fatal kick to Madara, breaking his left ribs. But in the process, Gai's bones of his leg are completely broken, and is left unconcious, covered in dark like the ground after an extinguished fire. Madara is crushed against the Shinju, with all his left side vanished. He laughs maniacally, saying that he almost kills him. And sadly, the shattered side of his body begins to regenerate. Then, Madara throws a black sphere to finish off Gai, but Naruto suddenly comes, and kicks it away. Then, he uses his sun hand to restore Gai's dying heart, by inserting a vital source of chakra. Madara curses Obito, while Naruto says he feels different, like able to make it all. I don't want to be misunderstood. Gai was awesome. His last attack, his persistance and heroism were amazing. The animation for such strike was excellent. And because of that, the outcome is pathetic. Madara is left basically unharmed given his regeneration powers, and is all staged for Naruto and Sasuke to be the heroes. And also, Naruto returns Gai's life, though he will end up crippled for good (episode 479). Gai wanted to have an honorable death fighting and helping to eliminate Madara, and he got the opposite. There were other ways. For instance, if Sasuke used the jutsu Hashirama gave to him, he could have nullified Madara's regeneration powers. And then, Gai could have caused a serious damage to Madara, with no way to recover, hence, helping a revived Naruto and the other to finally defeat the villain, and extract the Bijuus. Gai would have been remembered as a legendary hero in Konoha forever, the bizarre beast of taijutsu, who helped to save the world. Would have been memorable. Instead, we got Naruto and Sasuke with alien powers and spirits. Gai's notable efforts were in vain (and worst because Kaguya is the final villain).
