Another great piece of the puzzle

Warning: Spoilers
Greetings from Lithuania.

"Why Is This Night Different?" is another great episode in a super solid season 5 so far. When i started to think that this season will go in the roots of main story in season 3, the ending turned everything around. Who is this Allison Carr? She answered the phone at the end in Russian, who are becoming more and more involved in season 5. So far, i think this season has the most side plots then ever, which eventually i think will come together.

Overall, 4 episodes into season 5 and i can't think of anything so far that would ruin the series. It's near damn perfect. Acting, directing, editing and cinematography as solid as usual. "Why Is This Night Different?" is another great piece of the great puzzle named "season 5".

Who wants Carrie dead?
Tweekums2 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This episode opens shortly after the previous one ended; Carrie has been captured by Quinn and after staging a photograph that makes her look dead he explains his orders to kill her and urges her to disappear. He states that he gets is orders directly from Saul via a secret post office box; she refuses to accept that her mentor would want her dead so insists on accompanying Quinn when he drops off his 'proof' of her death... it appears that Quinn is now a loose end to be cleared up but he is hard to kill and evidence is soon found that points to a surprising source for the kill-orders.

Meanwhile Saul and Allison Carr are in Switzerland where they are trying to persuade a Syrian general to help overthrow President Assad and the two hackers who stole the CIA's data want to do different things with it; one wishes to make it public the other intends to sell it to the Russians… something he might not live to regret.

This was another gripping episode. We learn more about what is going on; most notable, in a shocking revelation, the person who ordered Quinn to kill Carrie. It was interesting to see that Quinn clearly cares about Carrie… if he didn't he wouldn't have let her live but until he faked the picture I'd wondered if he'd merely been ordered to capture her. There is also some real tension as the hacker goes to see the Russians; most viewers will guess that things are unlikely to end well for this greedy and fairly expendable character. We also get impressive action, which includes a sudden shootout and an explosive conclusion. It isn't just the exciting scenes that are interesting though; the scenes where Saul tries to persuade the Syrian general to accept US support and stage a coup were enjoyable without the need for any obvious danger. Overall another thrilling episode.

That ending
Abdulxoxo18 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Wow, that ending was shocking, the asset Saul and co spent some time trying to recruit and almost succeeded goes boom at the end. Carrie and Peter are on a little mission while Peter got shot and it seemed like Carrie might tie it back to Allison. I think Allison has something to do with the plane, if she's a mole in the CIA it'll be great, It'll be like Brody all over again. Numan's friend got himself into trouble with the Russians.

All in all, a good episode with some revelation on who's the bad guy gonna be, and well-acted of course.

Some explosive thrills
dierregi18 April 2021
The Carrie-Quinn failed romance is played very well and a weakened Quinn, despite having previously played heartless, shows considerable feelings for Carrie when the two hug. Obviously they are made for each other much more than Carrie and Ginger.

Elsewhere, sanctimonious journalist Laura get in touch with patronising liberal hacker Sabine, to retrieve the stolen documents, while the thief tries some dirty business with the Russians and Ginger lover boy acts bewildered by the strangeness of Carrie's life.

Saul and Allison attempt yet another very risky manoeuvre and Allison seems to be more than a CIA spy. On a side note, Saul should know better than to dip his pen into office ink - so to speak - because affairs with colleagues are always a bad idea and even more so when both are spies.
