In order to 'cleanse' the Aryan race of anyone considered a financial burden on the state, Hitler encouraged physicians to grant a 'Mercy Death' on those considered either mentally or physically incurable. This resulted in the Aktion T4 euthanasia program, and was intended to eliminate those considered a "burden" for the finances of the State. The killing of patients was carried out in secret, with fake ashes and death certificates sent to families, so when Aktion T4 became public the national outcry forced the Nazis to stop the program. During WWII, communications within the resistance movements always posed a problem. All mail, telephone, telegrams, and radio communications were closely monitored and easily intercepted. Couriers were a vital way of transporting coded information and postal workers were an asset to the resistance movement. One popular way of transporting coded information was to write the code on cigarette paper, wrap it around a needle and insert it into a cigarette.
