Really loved this episode!

Warning: Spoilers
I am rather surprised that this episode is the lowest rated one of them all! I found this episode to be very interesting, we have some major foreshadowing here and a sweet moment between our main characters! Star and Marco are different but that is what makes them so great for each other. Star knows how to relax and have fun, and Marco is responsible and cautious so he keeps Star in check. They have such a great rapport and I love their friendship. I also think that this episode is the beginning of Star really asserting her independence and Marco giving her the room to do so. He's a sweet boy who looks out for those he cares about, but she wants to be able to discover some things on her own. The first half was both heartfelt and hilarious (the horse bit and Tom's "life coach" Brian killed me.) Rider Strong did amazing as demon ex-boyfriend Tom. Some may view the dance between Marco and Star as a literal "shipping" but I don't think that is what it was. If this show is even going in that direction I think they would stretch it out and handle it properly. I think it was a strengthening of their bond as friends more than anything. I don't mind if they end up together as long as they do it right, but I don't think that is the direction they are going. Then we move onto the Fortune Cookies portion of the episode. Now Ludo is a lot of fun, but he's not a scary villain. We knew that from the beginning and I have been waiting for a real threat to show up for Star. Toffee has me really excited for what she is going to face in the near future. I love the quiet manipulative type villains and Toffee means business. We are really going to see her battle the "Forces of Evil." I love the show's silliness and hyper energy, but this episode shows that it has more to it than that. I think it is a great expansion and shows the flexibility of this show. They are still portraying them as teens with teen problems like in "Mewberty" and the "Blood Moon Ball" part of this episode. It can be downright crazy and hilarious, but it can also get pretty serious and pull it off.

Well, that was interesting.

Even though Star broke up with Tom, she would like to go to the Blood Moon Ball with him. Marco is afraid of Tom, the angry demon, possibly causing harm to Star. Star is 14 and trying to be more independent, so she doesn't need Marco to be her hero, but her friend. The Fortune Cookies part was definitely more interesting. Toffee made a great new boss to Ludo's minions, and at the end he says "You're not the first monsters to fall victim to their magic." which is brilliant subtle foreshadowing of what is to come in Season 2. What does Toffee know about the Mewmans? Does he know things? Let's find out in Battle for Mewni!
