If you've been paying attention at all to the short film circuit over the past year, Nick DenBoer and Davy Force's "The Chickening" has probably turned up in numerous places. The short has become something of a midnight movie sensation after screenings at Tiff, Beyond Fest, Telluride Horror Show, and, most recently, Sundance, and now you can finally see what the fuss is about thanks to DenBoer's Vimeo page. Read More: Watch: Eddie Alcazar and Flying Lotus' Mesmerizing Short Film is So Nsfw We Can't Even Say Its Name Equal parts insane and genius, "The Chickening" remixes Stanley Kubrick's horror film "The Shining" by digitally altering the movie into a poultry-stuffed comedy adventure. In this unforgettable version of the story, the menacing Overlook Hotel becomes the outrageous Charbay’s Chicken World, a state-of-the-art poultry production facility and resort strategically built on an active...

A garish, absurdist riff off The Shining, The Chickening is prime fodder for Sundance’s Midnight Shorts Program. Animation duo Nick DenBoer and Davy Force wrote and directed the film, which blends shots from The Shining with a Tim & Eric-esque cocktail of inventive, abrasive imagery about a fried chicken tycoon. Below, DenBoer discusses how he and Force created the meticulously crafted images of their giddy short film. Filmmaker: How and why did you wind up being the cinematographer of your film? What were the factors and attributes that led to your being hired for this job? Nick DenBoer: My co-director Davy Force and I collaborated […]...

I know that I’ve gone on record with saying that Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas has to be one of the best film festivals our country has to offer. Sadly, there is not enough time to catch all the films I wanted to see. One film was called Men & Chicken which starred Mads Mikkelsen. It was a comedy and that meant that it went down the priority pole when it came to covering the festival for a “horror-centric” website like Destroy the Brain. However, our contributor, Mike Hassler, saw it and told me that while he thought the movie was okay, the short that was before it seemed to steal the show. The short film that preceded Men & Chicken was something called The Chickening. Mike couldn’t explain what it was nor did I think he want to. He thought that I would get maximum enjoyment seeing the short...

The Chickening
Selected for both Toronto and Sundance, Nick DenBoer and Davy Force's " The Chickening" is a short film spin on Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" that takes the horror classic and turns it into a super trippy ode to fried chicken. Boasting references galore from multiple nods to Tommy Wiseau to things like chicken-flavored condoms, it is easily the weirdest thing you'll see today and the first in a potential series of remixed classic films by the same guys. [Source: Bmd]
Marvel's Agents of Shield
The Honest Trailers gang have only occasionally turned their attention towards TV shows, and this week they decided to tackle one of the more problematic of genre series - "Marvel's Agents of Shield". From all the name-dropping, the use of C-list characters, the frequent death of black characters, and the living in the shadow of the more acclaimed and interesting Netflix series.

When I was at the Toronto Film Festival this year, I went to have drinks with one of the filmmakers before the midnight premiere of his film, and while I was there, I had a long conversation with Colin Geddes about The Chickening. Colin, for those of you who don't know his name, is the programmer of Midnight Madness at the festival, and one of my favorite people walking the planet. His excitement about The Chickening was positively infectious, and once I'd laid eyes on the film, I understood that excitement. It's since played at Fantastic Fest and then again here at Sundance, and now the filmmakers have released this big fat slice of insanity online for all of you to enjoy as well. In some ways, this feels like the endgame of remix culture, a short film that is built onto the bones of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.

At the Fantastic Fest film festival in Austin, Texas, short films often play before the films. Before Anders Thomas Jensen‘s Men & Chicken, the audience was treated to The Chickening, directed by Nick DenBoer and Davy Force. The short film was met with a huge applause, almost stealing the spotlight from the feature that followed. Have you ever wanted to see […]

Prepare yourselves for the best five minutes you will have all day. The Chickening, the amazing short film from the demented minds of Nick DenBoer and Davy Force in which chicken focused violence is done to Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, is now available online. The short has traveled the World, once, twice, three times around the world (maybe?) on the festival circuit. This is one of those things that you simply have to experience for yourselves. We cannot begin to describe what you are about to see, except that it is damned hilarious stuff. Experience the glory of volcanoes, fried chicken and Shelley Duvall's wandering eyeballs! ...

Last week, I wrote about a totally bonkers remix of the Batman v Superman trailer and at the time, I thought it would be a long while before I saw anything stranger than that. I was wrong.
BirthMoviesDeath pointed me to this absolutely insane video called The Chickening, which is a riff on Stanley Kubrick's The Shining created by Nick DenBoer and Davy Force. Get a load of this (and warning — at least one shot is Nsfw):
If you're still able to comprehend human communication after watching that, Bmd has an interview with the filmmakers that's worth checking out in full. I'll snag a few choice lines below:
Why chicken? I grew up on a chicken farm and then worked in my dad's poultry butcher shop until I was 17, de-boning and slingin' chicken carcasses. You can't shake that shit. My co-director Davy Force and I have been talking about doing this mega,...
