Loose Ends: Horror in 23 Minutes
retrograde-593104 February 2018
Loose Ends is by far one of my favorite short films. It chronicles the descent-into-madness of aspiring CIA agent Maddie Holt. Loose Ends perfectly captures the nuances of a modern day relationship. From the subtle hints of competitive hatred to overt insults, this film perfectly exudes masterful filmography and character development. It also perfectly chronologically logs the progressive mental degradation of Maddie and the subsequent actions taken by all characters. While there is much to praise Loose Ends for, its acting, at times, was more or less disillusioning. Nonsensical pauses or just bad acting can really ruin the immersive experience that Akana has created. Overall, it's a fantastic film and I would recommend this to anyone interested in psychologically thrillers.

What's the Point?

A fine example as to why not all viral stars, who make three to four minute videos on YouTube, are cut out for serious filmmaking and acting. This film is so contrived that if you are not a fan of Anna Akana's work then there is a good chance that you might just loose interest very quickly. The sub-plots, as meaningless as they were, add nothing to the main story. Also the actress Amy Holt must have autistic tendencies because she looks like she has a hard time making eye contact with most of the other actors. I will give it credit that it tried to show something interesting by showing us someone's mental destabilization when they try to pursue a personal goal in life, but that sort of thing take months NOT a week.
