Francis and Mary help her mother-regent Marie de Guise evading the English-backed Protestants in Scotland, manipulating ambassador Nicholas into giving false intelligence to Elizabeth, ultimately enraging the English queen and saving Marie. Mary's preferred future second husband, Don Carlos of Spain, goes court politically interested 'Virgin Queen' Elizabeth, but is rejected when he demands she disprove a rumor that she's secretly a man. Elizabeth tells Robert her suspicion that Amy is responsible for the rumor; Robert assaults Amy but is quickly remorseful and promises to end his affair with Elizabeth. Bash finds Delphine in time to prevent her being tortured by zealot nuns. Having learned of Delphine's powers, Charles, orders her to revive Francis, who dies in Mary's arms. Mary agrees to Delphine's price of a life for a life, and when Francis awakens, Marie de Guise dies in Scotland. Catherine finds that Narcisse, her possible rival for the regency, tricked Lola into marrying him. Lola fears Narcisse is keeping more secrets.
