  Farkle Minkus : Yes. I'm told who you're with when the clock strikes twelve is how you'll spend the coming year.

  Isadora Smackle : I will certainly be with you.

  [Lucas arrives behind Riley] 

  Isadora Smackle : Unless my third wheel tries to intervene.

  Lucas Friar : I'm not your third wheel, Smackle! I just arrived at the same time.

  Isadora Smackle : Desperation doesn't look good on you, Lucas. Even though everything else does.

  Farkle Minkus : Smackle!

  Isadora Smackle : Which part was I not supposed to say out loud?

  Farkle Minkus : You can say whatever you want. She's mine.

  Lucas Friar : Tell *her* that!

• Harper Burgess : Miss Austen teaches us that romance comes with conflict. Two young women with different ideas about what love is. One hid her true feelings to protect others. She felt this made sense. The other had feelings than she knew what to do with. She was overwhelmed by sensibility.

  Farkle Minkus : [stands up]  What about the character who knows all the secrets of the character who's hiding her true feelings?

  Harper Burgess : He's driven to madness and dies alone and scared.

  Farkle Minkus : [sits down, saluting her]  Thank you!

• Farkle Minkus : Tell them you still like Lucas, Riley. Just tell them the truth. Don't start the new year with a lie.

  Riley Matthews : Farkle, Maya stepped back for me when she saw that I liked him. If she has feelings for him, how could I not do the same for her?

  Farkle Minkus : You don't know that. You don't know how she feels. I don't think she knows how she feels. You know why?

  Riley Matthews : Because she could only read seven pages in three hours.

  Farkle Minkus : Because all these things we're feeling are new. We don't know what they are yet. Harper said this all comes at a cost. What's your cost, Riley? Your own happiness?

  Riley Matthews : Farkle, you said that wouldn't tell anybody. How could you do this to me?

  Farkle Minkus : I'm doing it *for* you, Riley. I care so much about you, I want you to know that the truth is always the best thing.

  Riley Matthews : How is it the best thing if it turns everything into a mess?

  Farkle Minkus : You don't think this is a mess already? I want you to tell them. I know you would have me do the same thing. You ever heard of the horn of Gabriel?

  Riley Matthews : No.

  Farkle Minkus : He's an angel. They say when he blows his horn, it's the end of time. If you don't tell everybody how you really feel, his horn blows at midnight.

  [imitates the horn with his characteristic 'HAAAAH' catchphrase] 

  Farkle Minkus : Just because I don't do it much, doesn't mean I can't.

• Riley Matthews : Okay, um, we'll do one more...

  [picks a game card] 

  Riley Matthews : "Have you ever kept a secret from somebody you love?" Game over.

  Farkle Minkus : Why, because you know secrets are dangerous?

  Riley Matthews : No, Farkle, because it's almost midnight.

  Farkle Minkus : And you know what happens at midnight?

  Riley Matthews : Okay, it's time to go up to the roof.

  [drags Farkle with her out of the apartment. The others stand back, shocked. Lucas ends up standing next to Smackle, who looks at him] 

  Lucas Friar : [realizes]  I just happened to be standing next to you.

  Isadora Smackle : Who's the creepy creep creep now?

• Farkle Minkus : I'm sorry, guys. I did the right thing. I hope you can forgive me. Happy new year.

  [leaves the roof with Smackle, leaving Riley, Maya and Lucas alone]
