"Nothing in Life is Promised Except Death"

"Trajectory" introduces a much well awaited lady speedster, but at the same time depicts themes of shortcomings, the desire for power and reveals a shocking revelation fans have been speculating for a month.

The episode starts off with quite a comfy start with The Flash training and bonding with the team which is one of the best aspects of the episode and the show so far. The interaction between Wells and his daughter was also nice to see. The villain also does a great job in proving to be menacing even though there seemed to be more to her and there could've been more potential, I believe that her purpose was fulfilled as she was there to show the effects of Velocity 9. Each sub-plot were handled well enough to keep your attention like the Wells, Barry training and Iris subplots. The set pieces and the action were also well done and had a lot of polishing to it which gave it a rather epic and large scale effect. Now going in to the big reveal at the end, I think the episode did a very good job in using Trajectory as a filter for what Zoom may actually be. It raised a whole lot of questions and without spoiling, it finally gives an emotional drive to the story and the team in regards to fighting Zoom which was well done as well in season 1 wherein the team had a direct link to Wells which made the fight even more personal.

In the end, Trajectory is a great filler episode with great themes and action which will surely excite you for the coming episodes with more and more to look forward to.

Verdict: 8.5/10

The Flash - S02E16 Trajectory

Warning: Spoilers
After a few weeks off, Flash finally returns to our screens, and after the previous episode, this episode had to hit with a bang. And it really did.

"A lady speedster, after 2 years we finally got one!" This was perhaps my favourite quote of the episode. Not only did Cisco express his excitement, but ours too. This is now our 4th speedster, and it was about time we got a lady one. I really liked how they it was revealed really early on on the identity of her, so early that it was easily picked from the trailer. By showing her true identity early, we were able to see how Trajectory and Eliza were in fact different. Although it was Eliza doing everything, it was good to see a character who was controlled by someone else, similarly to Gorilla Groud and his powers. Trajectory was the speed force persona of Eliza. I though this episode and event were really well placed, enabling the writers to start giving us clues to how Zoom maybe the negative speed force version of Jay.

The major thing to take out of this episode was Team Flash working out that Zoom has the same identity as Jay. I thought that they used Cisco's vibes really well this episode. From the first vibe I really thought that it was the writers trying to suggest that Zoom and Jay are connected, which we now know they are. As current moment, the team believe Zoom and Jay are the same person, which I think is a great way to go about it. By doing this it really keeps the true identity of Zoom a secret, and allows them to have a twist in the end of the season to those character as well as audience members that believe Zoom and Jay are in fact the same.

Whilst I understand that there is a possibility that Jay is Zoom, I feel like the show has simply set up the idea of double identities and doppelgängers way too much for them to just simply link the two characters together. My best bet is that Zoom is the negative speed force of Jay, similarly to Trajectory being the speed force version of Eliza. However, we often forget that a Hunter Zolomon is still sitting on his park bench, for all we know he can still come into play.

After 4 long weeks without Arrow or Flash, the CW returns this week, the same week as Batman V Superman drops. I hoped 'Trajectory' would begin an epic week of DC comics, and it didn't completely disappoint. It was yet another filler week of the show, but it didn't overtly subtract from the flow of the season. It used the character of Trajectory and added to the ongoing Zoom conflict, so I can appreciate that.

We had 4 weeks without Flash and it seems Team Flash needed a similar break as they went out to a low level club with Wally and Iris (In typical CW fashion). We got some crazy gif worthy Cisco dancing but also some possible romances blossoming. Iris and Barry touched upon their supposedly inevitable future together and Wally and Jesse seemed to have some interest in each other. That was really all Wally got to do tonight, but Jesse proved to have the biggest arc out of everyone. She found out about all of the sketchy stuff Harry has been doing to save her, and it rubbed her the wrong way. This all led to Jesse eventually taking off and heading to Opal City to get away from it all. With Velocity 9 potentially still in her system, you have to wonder what state Jesse will be in the next time we see her.

The rest of the team was tasked with taking on Trajectory, the first female speedster on the show, who's using her powers to commit crimes across Central City. I enjoyed Allison Paige's performance as the troubled scientist who can't resist the drug, much in the same way Norman Osbourne couldn't resist his Goblin alter ego in Spider-Man. We didn't get a ton of Speedster vs Speedster action but her importance to the team's realization about the Jay-Zoom- Velocity 9 stuff was nicely handled. I hope to see her back someday, although it seems she's either dead or trapped in the speed-force.

The last major arc of the episode came from Iris and her editor, Scott, back at the paper. As frustrating as it was to see the story line of a paper clumsily turning on a hero before further investigation, I'm glad to see it's only going to last one episode. What won't last one episode is the relationship between Iris and Scott. It was similarly just as awkward as the Jesse-Wally interaction was, but perhaps it makes more sense than her and Barry do, who knows. Overall, it was an okay episode of the Flash that furthered the overarching plot with Zoom while also giving us some fun moments with Allison Paige's Trajectory.

+Paige was a nice addition

+Jesse got something to do for once

+They know about Jay

Flash is back! This episode was over pretty quick so will my review. How I've missed Cisco's humour.

About a month ago Zoom's identity was revealed and in this episode we get to learn more of how Velocity-9 (what's powering Zoom) works and what happens when you continue to use it. The villain Trajectory uses the V-9 to commit crime and let the Flash take the blame. She's smart, good looking and friendly, at least the Eliza part of her. Trajectory however appears to be a split personality of herself, and rather crazy. She has a scene where she's in conflict with herself and her villainous part ends up convincing the other to take the V-9 and spread further chaos. She feels a thrill when being fast and that is a desire that only continues to grow. Many similarities to Zoom here. I liked her as a villain, and more so as a female speedster which is something we haven't seen until now.

Barry finds himself in a similar situation. He too has the desire to go faster. In several attempts to increase his speed naturally he has failed and is considering using V-9 to give him the means to stop Zoom. Fortunately Barry doesn't take it and won't end up like Trajectory. Well done Barry, keep making smart decisions.

The only downside to the episode was the journalist subplot and that's because it never got to Barry's attention that the Flash might lose his heroic reputation. The reporter wanted people to hate the Flash but we never saw him try to do any of that. Has he ever heard of photoshop? Would he really want to lose the integrity of the newspaper over a simple robbery story? Anyway, it didn't seem to produce any importance to the rest of the episode.

Now that Team Flash know Zoom's identity, how will they go about defeating him? Since Zoom doesn't know that they know they could use it to their advantage, somehow.

All in all great episode, once again a villain who posed a threat to not only Barry but citizens as well. Can't wait for next week, alternate Earth (crossover) and time travel!

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Trajectory
lbramson11 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The city believes the Flash went insane after a female speedster with orange lighting and a red suit named Trajectory comes to town. Trajectory has a main storyline that's fine and fun. It's not an amazing plot, but I like it well enough. The reason this is such a beloved episode with a high rating is, once again, the ending. After the last episode ended with the reveal of Zoom's identity, this one builds upon that! Team Flash discovers Zoom's identity in a truly heart wrenching scene. Imagine, a character you trusted and helped fight alongside you revealed to be the monster you've been fighting all along. We liked Thawne, but we didn't trust him, however, we liked and trusted Solomon throughout the season.

9.1/10-Great!

I'm still on a King Shark high, so this ep wasn't as bad to me as it should have been.

Warning: Spoilers
It's a good thing Barry reminded us that Jessie is underage otherwise we would have been watching yet another grown woman needing daddy's approval/permission. The watch going off with Wally's walk-by, Iris/boss, Iris at StarLabs/her answer about Jay's speed all served to remind viewers the writers have no idea what to do with them. But they are diligently making sure both have scenes/lines no matter how shoe-horn it is. Also, unless her next story is about prostitution, what in the world is Iris wearing at work?! As for Cisco's secret vibing and Caitlin's V-9, for a close-knit team and their inability to keep secrets, Team Flash sure picks the worse time to not share info.

Still. The ep did have some good points. Team Flash is finally on the same page as the viewers, and we all got an explanation for how Zoom could have killed Jay, and fun scenes of Team Flash working on amping his speed and going to a bar. As fillers go, this wasn't a complete waste.

Score: 7.1 because King Shark
