- Alf delivers the far from earth-shattering revelation that James may or may not have worked at the hospital he claimed to, but it's enough to make Roo stop the wedding. Maddy is hurt to return from her parents' and learn Roo was going to get married without her and Roo has to apologise to both her and Alf. John tells Marilyn that they've been accepted as foster parents but she has a sudden urge to be a grey gypsy instead. Maddy finally turns 18, at least six months after she should have done, and is delighted at the party Oscar throws for her, but less so at the ugly bracelet he buys her as a present. Evelyn tries to get away to see Tank but Maddy convinced her to stay. Tank then turns up at the party with a bunch of loutish mates.—skteosk
- John enthusiastically tells Marilyn they are allowed to foster again soon, but after hesitation she replies there' too much they should experience together first, so baffling him he fake-agrees to a backpacking 'gap year'. Alf's objection to Roo wedding James, that Morag found he worked in a hospital under a false name, explodes in Alf's face when James replies he used his second Christian name to avoid confusion with his then surgeon father. Yet ingrate Maddy wines she wasn't asked for the aborted wedding to be rescheduled fast. Oscar wastes all his tutoring earning on a golden necklace for self-absorbed Maddy, who cares only for her surprise (until Chris spilled the beans) 18th birthday party which Alf allowed unsupervised. Evie tries to wriggle way pretending felling sick, until date Tank turns up with his band of motor punks.—KGF Vissers
