Bad acting
rebecca_binns24 June 2017
I waited the 15 Min's as suggested, although the acting was so bad I wanted to turn off after 5 Min's, but I thought let me give it a chance. Nothing changed the acting was still awful, and so was the story-line. I watched all the way through in hope of some greatness but no. Waste of time. If I can say the best bit of the film was the theme song at the end, that's saying something. Low budget bad acting

So boring you want to sell your soul to the Gorenos just to get out of finishing it...
paul_haakonsen29 March 2019
Right, well I had absolutely no idea what I was in for when I picked up a copy of the "Gorenos" movie. I liked the title and saw that it was a horror movie, that was essentially all that was needed to persuade me to watch it - as I am a major fan of the horror genre.

But "Gorenos" sort of starts out like it is a spoof on the horror genre, sort of like director and writer Clarence Williams IV was making an "Inception" of horror movies. It felt like a spoof at the beginning, but turned out to be an actual movie. But then this is where the horror aspect comes in being used relatively loose. Now, the movie might be labeled as a horror movie, but it was not a horror movie, believe you me.

The acting in the movie was mundane at best, and I can't really pinpoint any one of the performers in the movie as being outstanding, for better or worse. Sure, they did what they had to do, I suppose, but this was definitely not a top of the line production.

As for the storyline, well its was easy to follow because it was so simple - almost to the point of being so simple it had vanished. There were absolutely no surprises, no plot twists, no ups or down, no nothing in this storyline. Not even anything remotely scary or disturbing. Nor were there anything entertaining, in terms of interesting demonic creatures, gore, destruction, jump scares. No, there was nothing here aside from a guy rambling on about being tormented by a demon, while his friends were dying but fortunately always out of sight of the audience. Yeah, we were not even given that visual treat.

"Gorenos" was boring, let's just be blunt and not dance around the bush. It offered nothing to the horror genre. In fact, the only thing scary about this movie is the fact it is labeled as a horror movie, when it so painstakingly obviously isn't. If you, like me, enjoy a good and entertaining horror movie, do yourself a favor and stay well clear of "Gorenos".

The entire movie had a Spike Lee mixed with your typical spoof comedy movie element to it. Whether that was intentional or not, is beyond me. But it wasn't worked in favor of the movie, let me just tell you that.

I managed to suffer through the entire ordeal of "Gorenos". Sure, I fell asleep towards the end, but woke up to see how the ludicrous movie ended. This movie came and went without causing a single ripple on the pond, and it will never ever be revisited by me again.

Just a Suggestion...

Warning: Spoilers
I starred watching "The Gorenos" knowing that it was an indie/micro-budget production. The proverbial bar had been set extremely low. Unfortunately, I hadn't set it low enough.

The movie started out well enough. Miles, the protagonist, and his buddy, Parker, are watching a horror movie on Miles' laptop. They rip on the movie, and the stupid decisions that the characters in the movie make. This evolves into a discussion about what a "good" horror movie should have. It came across as a believable conversation that two horror movie aficionados might have.

It was all downhill from there.

A note aside here to the makers of this movie; if you're going to produce a horror movie, and include in it characters discussing what makes a good horror movie, you may actually want to include some of those elements in your film. You have characters in your film talking about the elements of good horror movies, and then you go on to not include a single thing that the characters discussed. A horror movie should actually have a scare or two in it. You know, some actual HORROR.

The acting was horrible, which I expected. The scene at the strip club was just plain stupid. To be honest, I lost all interest and stopped paying attention when one of Miles' friends asks another if he would rather drink pee-flavored lemonade, or lemonade-flavored pee.

While discussing horror movies earlier in the film, Parker tells Miles that all good horror movies have the "OS" Factor... the "Oh S**t!" factor. "The Gorenos" has this "OS" Factor, but night quite in the same context that the character Parker meant it. In the case of "The Gorenos", the "OS" Factor comes in the form of "Oh s**t! Is this movie still on?"

Finally what I've been waiting for!
gchaosatl2 February 2017
Wow! In a world of cliché horror movies with over the top gore and bad story lines finally a breath of fresh air! This movie was AWESOME! From start to finish it had me captivated and gripped to my seat. Not to mention it actually had a well thought out script and an idea that was pretty original. Also in my opinion most of these movies get relatively bad actors that are emotionless and can't play to the scenario of the fear the characters should be feeling. Not in this case, these actors were top-notch and the ability to display great humor without making the movie corny. It actually complimented the film quite well. The two main stars had great chemistry and were fantastic together. They played off of each other quite well and you genuinely believed they were friends. They've got rare talent that wouldn't surprise me if I saw them in the future. Great movie would recommend to anybody to watch!

A horror movie that doesn't think you are a moron.
JDtheBigGuy30 January 2017
I didn't expect much from this film, but I got a lot. The writer/s clearly gave this story some thought and credited their audience with at least reasonable intelligence. Unlike so many movies, including those with much bigger budgets that are full of plot holes this story holds it's own. Apart from the occasional slight overacting there was nothing to complain about. Whilst no one actor stood out they all did a good job and were believable. Let yourself get past the first few minutes and this film builds into a worth your time watch. I would recommend this film to horror movies fans and to anyone who appreciates a decent story.

Wow,an almost great movie
slhma27 January 2017
After five minutes I wanted to shut this movie off.The acting was atrocious.I figured there was no way I could enjoy this movie when the actors all over pronounciated their words and generally over-acted. After fifteen minutes,I had changed my mind, not because the acting got better but because I couldn't look away. Now I can say honestly I am glad I didn't shut it off.

I won't go into detail about names or specifics in this review.I'll just tell you what I think I just watched.

This is a movie that was almost great. It was clear to me the writers wanted us to watch a movie that didn't insult our intelligence which the very plot alludes to at the beginning. What makes a great horror movie? What makes a horror movie leave us frustrated and unsatisfied?Starting the movie off with these questions opens a door to further intrigue .Would this movie be a parody of bad horror movies?Would this movie be just another bad horror movie? It turns out its neither. No time is wasted, and the plot moves along smoothly. The lines are funny at times but i was never sure if they were supposed to be ...and for some reason it just made me want to keep watching even more.

At times the plot would take a nose dive and I was sure i was about to be as aggravated as the main character suggested I would be watching a bad movie. But then the characters would react realistically and save the day.Just when you think its bordering on cheese,it redeems itself.I couldn't help think in after thought i'd just watched an episode from Tales from the Crypt. For better or worse, it was engaging, and made an effort to be more than just a b flick.I want to see more from the makers, and have a small bit of advice for the two main characters (the friends).Next time try under-acting a little...as it seems over-acting comes naturally to you...try behaving more like you don't know you're on camera. This movie would have been great if you had. I'd watch this movie again someday....

Better acting than many of this type of movie
maverysmith31 July 2020
Go into it knowing it's a generic type low budget horror movie, but it has aspects that are refreshingly different: African American main characters, funny dialogue, and better acting than a lot of B movies. I enjoyed it, especially the interaction of the 2 best friends and their acknowledgement of horror tropes.

Try not to think about it
nogodnomasters26 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Miles (Derek Simmons) is just your average kid who watches a lot of horror films and has an over active imagination. When a urinal at school flushes by itself he thinks a demon is after him. We find out about 40 minutes into a film what is a "Gorenos " In the beginning they claim a good horror film needs characters, dialogue, and an "OH SH**" factor. It also needs a decent sound track and a shower scene never hurts. However knowing what a good horror film needs never guarantees we get it. Miles was annoying. The dialogue was uneven and we never saw the demon. The special effects were light.

Now in all fairness the film was more comedy than horror, but never excelled there either. I was waiting for that Hitchcock moment when Miles does something irreversible only to discover it was all a joke. Didn't happen.

Guide: Excessive F-word usage. No sex or nudity. Lap dancers.
