When Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin), Liv (Rose McIver) and Ravi (Rahul Kohli) travel to the Tacoma morgue, the chief coroner's name is Dr. Metzger. For the American viewers, "Metzger" seems to be a normal name, but in context to the German language "Metzger" is actually "butcher;" that joke is easily going over the head of the audiences, which is surely intended and kind of morbid, considering Dr. Metzger is a forensic pathologist, cutting up people to determine their cause of death. It's also used as a slight derogative term in the German language use for medical doctors, who sometimes are seen as butchers, if you are unsatisfied with their work. It is also a possible reference to Meat Cute butchery.
This episode mentions Hearst College, which is a fictional university from creator Rob Thomas's show Veronica Mars (2004).
When Major (Robert Buckley) tells Gilda (Leanne Lapp) "Never tell me the odds," it's the same line Han Solo used in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980).
This episode originally aired against the NCIS: New Orleans (2014) episode Broken Hearted (2015). Coincidentally, in the first act of both shows someone used the line "Shot through the heart." (in this case, Ravi (Rahul Kohli)) followed immediately by a Bon Jovi reference (in this case, Ravi adding "And who's to blame?" {Pauses as no one reacts} "No Bon Jovi fans here.")
