At one point in the song "I'm a Good Person," Rebecca threatens to slice a man's throat. When they were shooting the scene, the group of girls playing girl scouts thought it would be funnier if she threatened to kill one of them, but Rachel Bloom shot down their idea because she didn't want the audience to actually hate Rebecca.
The original demo of "I Love My Daughter (But Not in a Creepy Way)" was dark and twisted, sung by a character who obviously wanted to have sex with his daughter. The demo was a favorite among the crew, but show co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna was taken aback by how deranged it was and insisted upon rewrites. As the song evolved over numerous drafts, they helped to discern an identity for Darryl - the flustered self-doubt presented in the lyrics became a defining character trait. The final version still caused concern at the network, but McKenna insisted that it couldn't be watered down anymore, arguing that the only other option was to cut the song altogether.
There are two different versions of the song "I'm a Good Person." A more explicit video with alternate lyrics was released on Rachel Bloom's You Tube channel, and both versions have been issued as mp3s.
The man at the bar who's choking during "I'm a Good Person" is assistant choreographer Dominique Kelley.
