ARK: Survival Evolved is a classic video game, along with one of the more underrated ones.

Warning: Spoilers
ARK, itself is a timeless unforgettable classic survival game. It has a fun story, cool designs, and detailed graphics, and the game was so successful it even got 4 DLC'S, in which all are good, except Genesis that one sucks, but the other 3 were timeless, ARK is certainly not the best game ever as it runs through some technical problems at times, but aside from those issues ARK: Survival Evolved is a classic. My final rate is an 8.5/10.

A Childhood Dream Come True

If you like Survival Games with tons of building, taming, and breeding then ARK is the perfect game for you. I spent tons of hours playing this game on my Playstation 4 and I got to say I love every second of it. And I can definitely say ARK is worth your money.

I will admit the game has some bugs, but the concept is very unique and complex
johncheese-9182111 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The game does have its flaws, but there are many things to do in this game. The concept to the game is very unique and even has its own techniques, the game introduces you to many options and opportunities you are able to play either PVE (Player vs Environment), PVP (Player vs Player), and Single Player (Obviously) you are entitled to your own imagination much like the Shineinpoverty guy said and you can pretty much strengthen up as the game goes on by being able to make your own dream house, to being able to tame your own dinosaurs and being able to have as many as you want. The graphics are very good and have terrific visuals to them. In terms of creature designs they look amazing I like how they are also giving a good majority of these creatures upgrades (Known as TLC's) which assign the creature a cooler design and newer abilities.

Verdict - If you ignore the bugs in the game itself and focus on both the astonishing visuals and creative premise, then you will be in for a splendid time.

The limit is your imagination

There will be plenty of people who will say there is nothing to do or that the game is grindy. But us, people giving it high ratings stops only what we can imagine. I have met all types of people while playing on official PVE. There were those that did nothing but the breeding. There were those building amazingly beautiful castles and houses. there were also those who made huge tribes creating laggy bases, and also holidays when they stopped playing because by the time their bases expired, there were a dozen of players getting ready to claim their dinos. I have always played alone. And I did a little of everything. I built interesting bases or monuments. I explored every single cave. I also made ours to dangerous places for new people. I traded and slowly progressed through the game. Then my favorite game was released--Scorched Earth. I am not sure what was so captivating for me living in a hot desert world. But almost everything in that DLC will forever be my most memorable experience. The game is good alone and with friends (progression is definitely easier with others though). This game with all its problems and bad optimization is rated high by the people make their own story. We don't need a story to play, we just need to be able to make our own. That is something I dislike The Last of Us 2 because that game was a crime against choice and creativity. I recommend ark for people who are interested in sandbox games and huge world with many ways to travel and build. Raking 2000k hours I still haven't finished 30% of all I planned. If you are looking for an active community that went on without wipes for years, I recommend Arkade. They have all maps and PVE+PVP worlds. Modded and slightly boosted rates will serve well casual players without lots of hours for gaming.

This damned game.
highlander_3152728 May 2019
I could go on for hours. I began playing it in Early Access in Aug of 2015. Many bugs, constant updates, and an oftentimes glitchy experience but a persistent open world environment and interactions with hundreds, thousands of people in the nearly four years since then has made it a love/hate relationship. I have somewhere around 12K hours. I have seen all of the developmental hell this game went through, from barely scraping by and the devs working 12-16 hours a day, six and seven days a week for little to no pay as an indie game that a little too closely resembled another, ill fated game that one of the leads dumped to create this one, to the eventual sellout to a massive unfeeling, unthinking corporation that immediately tried to make Dark and Light, a blatant ripoff of Ark, which was a ripoff of The Stomping Lands. I have watched it all, from the Flier Nerf that caused tens of thousands of players to quit in the span of a few days, to the joy and awe of the Center map being released on official servers as the first expansion in mid 2016. I saw the rage of gamers, angry at a ten dollar fee for downloading the Scorched Earth map, after they had paid twenty dollars in Early Access for the game, that's right, and gotten two whole maps with the addition of The Center, which was a free map.

This game hooks you, because you play at first to learn, and experience the wonders. Then, as you get better, and you build bigger, and collect more virtual pets to eat your neighbors with to protect your belongings, you become more invested. You fight, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes you find yourself handcuffed to a toilet when you log in, making you someone else's personal fertilizer factory for their crops. And sometimes you login only to find everything you own gone, and nothing but red in your log. Because the game never pauses, while you sleep, people are still playing. And they might decide your stuff looks tasty. So you start over. There is no winning, no end to the game. And if you let it, it will run your life. As you can tell, mixed review for a great concept, but it is definitely a game worth putting a couple of hundred hours into for the experience. And the original 20$ I spent was well worth it.

Ark - swamp flu evolved
paceyspaceman25 April 2020
AI Average Melee painful Servers Okay PvP rage at the highest PVE very poor Inventory painful

Story short:- If you are a new player you don't stand a chance in pvp, forget it - there is no fair margin.

There will be raging players level 75 or above who have been killed by another pro and want to take their anger out on you, deliberately giving you swamp flu or killing you for no reason. Standing around for the sake of it.

'Dude it's a survival game' Yeah okay, I totally get that, but an infection which is impossible to cure until later stages? not cool and painful. So painful. They need to seriously address this among even allowing high levels to spawn in the noob zones. PVE is a bore with no real purpose. Single player includes in this argument - waste of buttons.

Save your money. Buy dayz.

I've played over 1,000 hours on this game and I got to say I'm really impressed you do have to modify the settings at first but even then it's still really fun ark is a game where you basically go around and tame dinosaurs kill dinosaurs collect items to craft tools build a base but I love everything about this game the only problem is it does run through some lag sometimes but that's my only thing I think is wrong with the game overall this game is fun definitely a great game.

Ark-an-Saur Chuggabug.
southdavid13 October 2022
This will be a reasonable short review I think, because I only played the game for a couple of hours before deciding that this wasn't my sort of thing and moving on.

Waking up on a beach, naked and vulnerable, the player must gather resources in order to survive both the elements and the variety of prehistoric creatures that inhabit the island. As your character develops, you can head deeper into the jungle where the creatures increase in size and danger but there are unique resources.

It felt immediately to me like the sort of game that's much better on PC that on console. I was playing the Playstation Plus release of the game from a few months ago. The ability to map actions to certain buttons would have been helpful and might have stopped me from repeatedly opening the menu over and over. I also struggled initially to start a game on my own, so ended up wandering around someone else's game and then leaving when I couldn't work out what to do.

A quick look at some online guides and figuring out how to kick off my own private map and the game was much improved. I scavenged for a bit, built a fire and some clothes, punched a dodo to death. Then I started to realise a fact that I think is reflected in the other reviews here, with no real goal to the game, beyond not dying, it was probably going to be hours of play before I was able to make any real progress into it and I don't have the time anymore to commit to a game like that.

Though it was a bit buggy, with the odd glitching graphic and the occasional dinosaur caught in an obvious programming loop, there did look to be a lot of depth to it, in terms of crafting options, with metal and firearms eventually becoming an option. It's just not one I'm going to be able to commit enough time too to make it worthwhile.

I love this game I just scored 3k hours on it on Steam, the graphics, and texturing in the game are awesome and the soundtrack is nice and pleasant to listen to. Oh and I love Raptors :). The game really gets you into the lore and premise very well, and me being someone who absolutely LOVED dinosaurs as a kid, this game is definitely something worth playing.

Overall this game is one of the best we have gotten throughout the 2010s decade and I would definitely love to see more games like ARK in the future!

Great video game!
weelsarge19 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
ARK is a good game for you to play if you are willing to kill time and also do many fun activities such as play and goof off when necessary, though expect a couple of technical problems when playing. The concept of ARK is very unique and definitely a concept unlike any other survival game out there.

The graphics and texturing for ARK are also excellent and look great for a 2016 video game. I quit playing PVP due to the fact that the servers are very hard-core while it is better than them being easy being to hard can also be very nerve racking. But let's not forget that the design and soundtrack for the game itself are amazing I downloaded the whole soundtrack for every map/DLC in the game and listen to it! So do I recommend ARK yes definitely. 10/10.

The Best
bwith-458522 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Out of all the MMO Survival Games I was searching for, ARK was the one that caught my eye the most, bought it on Steam played it and it was a blast! The graphics for the game are amazing to look at, with many other things.

You start off naked with nothing on you, you start punching trees and collecting random stuff to build a house and make a living of you your avatar, then you find yourself something simple to tame like a parasaur that you tame and go on a numerous amount of adventures with until you work your way up to the top!

The game also has some of the best visuals that I have seen in a video game so far! For example, when you are beating the living heck out of a dinosaur blood/scare effects will show up on creature and they look very-detailed and well placed.

Brilliant soundtrack and dinosaur designs that only get better as the game went on. Favorite map is Aberration.

I would 1000000.0% recommend Ark: Survival Evolved to anyone out there who loves dinosaurs and to go on a nice adventure! Perfect 10/10.

Worth at least one try
wego-8251018 January 2022
I bought this game when it was on sale on Steam for I believe $20.00, played and it's actually pretty good, the only thing is that it requires SO MUCH to run although I'd say in the end it's worth it.

The games atmosphere is just groundbreaking in many ways, if you focus solely on the premise and sound design of the game you will most likely be reeled in for a good playthrough. On PC there are also many mods you could download to add variety to your game which is in my opinion very amazing. Multi-player is slightly more fun than single player but they are still both good in many ways. I also have to give out some pros on the graphics they are very good and has amazing visuals to go along with it, they may look pretty bad on a PC with lesser requirements but on a PC with a great graphics card they should look great.

Now the game does have its problems. For one as I said before it requires a beast PC in order to perform properly, and as of 2022 there are still a couple of bugs that remain in the game which can get a little aggravating to work with.

I give this game an 8/10.

It's Just A Very Simple Modern Video Game.
arkf-4532723 November 2021
I just made this account to comment that this game is very great and simple/easy to follow along with. Has an interesting lore like many games out there and a superb soundtrack. This game is very fun especially on multiplayer but single-player is also very fun that is when you have stuff to do by yourself. It may be a little difficult and buggy but I spent hours playing this simple video game. So 10/10.

Listening to the soundtrack for this game is also very nostalgic!

My review of "ARK: Survival Evolved"
xboxvideoplayer3 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
ARK may seem like a very basic premise for your average survival game, but it's not. It has the mechanics in which you'd expect from games like Minecraft. One thing I really like about the game is that it blends primitive/futuristic weapons items together and creates its own world in a way where dinosaurs exist but there is stuff you would see like in the year 2500 or whatever. I own the game on both PC and console and when I'm bored the game is able to amuse me very much. It may have it's fair share of problems but I think the game is well worth a playthrough. If you are a huge Survival fan you will like playing ARK: Survival Evolved.
