one of the darkest and heartbreaking episodes of the series
MomentIMDB28 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
After the cliffhanger of the previous episode, leaving the intrigue of who died at the hands of negan, twd returns with one of the best episodes of the series. the episode shows us the change of rick, after the death of glenn and abraham, going from being the master to the sum of negan. I love the interaction between Rick and Deny, the actors have great chemistry and their interpretation is magnificent. as soon as the double death scene is one of the best in the series. All actors manage to interpret their characters correctly and very convincingly. I love both deaths and they hurt. The best was when they killed Glenn, seeing all the characters watching made me suffer. Andrew Lincoln manages to get into Rick's skin and his situation and achieve a great performance, and his performance is authentic. The direction of the episode is impeccable, by Greg Nicotero, one of the best regarding this. in short a great episode, with great direction and gion, very good performance and great deaths.

Holy crap...
astowell-296127 October 2018
I was just watching this back, two years after airing. I have no issue in saying that this is the most disturbing 46 mins in TV history. It's sickening, it's grotesque but it's also absolutely harrowing for anyone invested in the characters of the show. The Walking Dead got a whole load of criticism for the content of this epispde, but that was the whole point, to convey the same effect of introducing Negan in the Comics, they had to go... far.

Really tough visually but perfect in the context of the show.

Powerless
ThomasDrufke23 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
It's one thing to predict what will happen (and pretty much know), but it's entirely something else to watch it unfold on screen in a terrifying brutal fashion. Tonight wasn't the most shocking Walking Dead episode of all time by any stretch, but it very well may be the most relentlessly devastating hour that AMC has ever put to screen.

So it turned out to be probably the two most predicted characters, Glenn and Abraham. Glenn was the obvious choice, but Abraham was the wildcard. Were we supposed to believe what Michael Cudlitz has said in recent interviews? Apparently not, because he took the first of many swings from Lucille, Negan's blood stricken bat. But as some people predicted, it wasn't the last time Lucille would make her mark.

The Walking Dead is obviously labeled as a horror show, but it's been a while since it's actually had a horrifying moment. But seeing Rick become powerless in front of his entire family and crew was about as horrifying as you can get. It's something that other shows can't really pull off. Sure, The Walking Dead has had some misfires over the years, but having Negan completely transform this show and the characters by breaking them down emotionally in front of each other was gratifyingly bittersweet. They have never been this vulnerable.

As upset as I was about the way the showrunners handled the season 6 finale, I was equally as pleased and impressed with the way they handled this premiere. Although we had to wait multiple commercial breaks to find out who died, I loved the way we saw everything through the eyes of Rick. Negan broke Rick down, and he even nearly got him to cut off his own son's arm. The writing, directing, and all around filmmaking was on top of its game tonight. I couldn't have asked for a better way to kick off a completely new chapter in this show's run.

Saying goodbye to Glenn and Abraham is extremely difficult and I'm sure it will have its lasting impact on the show's entire run. And I'm so glad they really nailed both of their last lines. "Suck my nuts" for Abraham and "I will find you" for Glenn? That's both hilarious and heartbreaking. Brilliant television.

I'm not stunned at all, it's a completely different feeling. We've lost two main cast members who have made this show what it has been for 7 seasons. What happened tonight was as good as the show has ever been. Real feelings. Real heartbreak. And real horror. This was a monumental episode for this show.

+Real horror

+Nailed the send off for beloved characters

+Breaking Rick, BRING ME MY AXE

+Devastating ending breeds a brand new beginning

Somehow underrated?
sonofdisaster1815 February 2017
How is this episode not reviewed as a top 5 all time episode?! 9.2 is too low in my opinion! The intensity of this episode has to seen to be believed. Me and my wife were so glued to the TV it's not even funny. Every moment had us on the edge of our seats! It was almost everything you would want in an episode of a television show..not much cheery moments but that was the point of the episode. It's a brutal start to an entire redirection of the show. I saw this entire 60 mins as a complete and devastating wake up call for the group. And they would never be the same.

When a show is making you yell "NOOOOOO" at the screen, it's obviously making an emotional impact. I was very sad to see ___ and especially __ go but I feel this was also done for us to absolutely despise the villain of Negan. This episode was so emotionally detrimental to the group and the viewers that we are still picking up the pieces. This episode will for sure go down in Walking Dead history as one of the best! Excellent work 10/10.

One Of The Most Brutal Epiodes Ever
ecatalan983 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I've been binge watching "The Walking Dead" for 4 weeks now and it's an awesome TV show. Me being a horror fan since I can remember, I've held off the show because I wanted to truly savor every episode from the start. Well, now I've just watched "The Day Will Come" episode and it has to be one of the most brutal episodes ever in the series. While it's easy to get over the grisly zombie deaths, it's a whole other level when main characters get their turn because, obviously, we've grown to care for them as the story moved along. When a major character gets axed, it's done in a very moving, almost heroic way. This time around, it was done as gory and as relentless as possible, putting all those George A Romero movies to shame for sheer, over the top horror. Seeing a beloved character get beaten to a bloody pulp is not easy, not even for gore fans like me. If you thought the "governor" was tough, wait 'til you meet Degan. He's the living definition of "show no mercy" and the only villain so far in the series that has put Rick and his family on their knees. It's probably the first time we've seen Rick's face with such fright, instead of the anger and sadness of previous situations. This is the set up for what it will propbably be one of the most violent, gory and intense revenge retributions in the whole series. It also reminds the viewer that the real threat in this post apocalyptic world are, and will always be, living humans.

The acting, the make up effects, the drama is always top notch. If there's only one qualm I still have about the show is that an explanation for all this walker apocalypse hasn't been addressed yet. We've had little explanations here and there, apparently a chemical warfare occured, more so than an outbreak. There's no talk of finding a cure or finding someone that can come up with one and there's still no explanation as to why animals don't turn into walkers. Perhaps their immunity could be the cure the world needs. It would most certainly be disappointing if some of these questions were left hanging in the air (like many questions were left unsolved in "LOST", which angered quite a few). Still, I think the series has at least one more season to go (maybe 2), so hopefully some questions will be answered.

The best episode in tv history
martinsplads9 February 2019
I am sad and absolutely stunned. This is exactly what the walking Dead needed. Finally is there something at stake, finally the group off survivors we have been following in all these years looses. It's tv that just sucked you in immediately when the episode starts to the end that actually almost made me cry and it's really rare that I actually gets emotional I'm watching a tv show. I cant put a finger on anything in this episode, is just phenomenal television, but be warned this episode is so brutal and violent that most people would probably turn it off. But I absolutely loved it one word masterpiece.

Emotionally drained.
ruud_peeters124 October 2016
This is in the top 3 of most dark and gritty TWD episodes since its pilot episode launched almost 6 years ago.

I was emotionally drained after watching it. I usually go on with daily life quite quickly after watching an episode, but the things that happened this time haunted me for hours. I guess that goes to show how much of an impression this first episode made. It's brute, gory, dark and gritty. All hope seems lost for Rick and our main group of survivors, which are now fully controlled by Negan and his crew. And for the first time, I had the feeling that there's absolutely NOTHING they can do about it at this point.

About Negan, the things he does and says in this episode makes you absolutely despise and hate him, but for me, that's only proof that the acting of the character by Jeffrey Dean Morgan is absolutely great (just like King Joffrey and Queen Cersei in GoT). He's the embodiment of evil in the world of The Walking Dead and is way worse than any of the previous villains. Andrew Lincoln's acting is also very impressive by the way (again).

Like Nothing Else on Television
As a huge fan of The Walking Dead, my excitement for the newest villain, Negan, and who he chose to "Lucille" was the highest it's been for any television show I've seen. This episode certainly lived up to my expectations. The sheer brutality and tension was palpable throughout the entire runtime. Step aside Game of Thrones' "The Rains of Castamere". While the Red Wedding was shocking, it didn't hold a candle to The Walking Dead 7x01.

Gut Punch
marianne-mag-joseph23 October 2016
This episode left me speechless. The tension is unbearable and what the actors deliver is just top-notch. "Who did he pick?" was the big question after the season 6 finale. This season premiere answers that question in a shocking and unexpected way...

When I started to watch this episode, my heart was beating so fast that I almost decided to leave the room. What AMC built up here is on the one hand amazing and on the other hand just painful. I don't want anyone of Rick's group to suffer or to have fear - but Negan IS fear itself.

I think this episode will stay in our hearts and minds for a very long time - and it's a game-changer as well. How will the rest of season 7 look like? How will everything develop?

Warning: Spoilers
Abraham and Glenn were killed by Negan. I didn't see Glenn's death coming. I thought Rick was going to have to rip his son's arm off with the axe. It was such an infuriating episode. They took Daryl away because he wanted to put up a fight. Maggie wants a war against them already.

This is it.. the most brutal, soulshattering and unforgiving episode of TV!
and_mikkelsen13 February 2024
This left me breathless, empty.. yeah just devolved of any emotions, cause I used up every tear and feeling in this episode! There is nothing that can prepare you for this! No matter how much you know.. you are never truely ready!

This was in a brilliant way.. the most uncomfortable experience i have had in a while! This actually made me feel uncomfortable, cause I saw a level of mercyless brutality i never thought I would ever see!

You were either panicking or left in a state of anxiety.. until you had to time to breathe and comprehense.. and then comes the tears, and oh boy did they flow!

That last dinner-scene, broke me, cause I saw that perfect future we will never get!

This was Walking Dead at its PEAK!!

It could've been so much more!
yavorskiisepic23 October 2016
This COULD have been Walking Dead's pivotal moment. This COULD have been the big refresher this show needed. This COULD have been the greatest episode of all time. So what went wrong?

AMC.

Since they decided to leave the last season off on a cliffhanger instead of just giving us the moment we've all been waiting for, they decided to stuff some more cash into their pockets, laughing all the way to the bank.

There were some real bad things that went down this episode, but I felt no emotion while watching any of it. The emotional intensity for the finale was perfect, but instead of giving us that punch, they said, "LOL see you in 7 months!" Now I feel no emotions for this show anymore.

There were also some very action-esque moments that are impossible to do in this reality or our own, which also drew me out of the episode.

HOWEVER, the redeeming factors of this episode are the performances of Jeffery Dean Morgan and Andrew Lincoln. These two actors are, admittedly, phenomenal in this episode.

Otherwise, I just feel... empty. This was the highest point in the comics, but in the show, it just feels like a void. I really don't know how else to describe it.

Maybe if I watch it a second time and like it more I'll change my rating to a 7, but right now, I'm just disappointed. Shame on you, AMC.

Stupid games with the viewers.
pdroid-7560124 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
+++ Contains Spoilers! +++

The writers are just playing stupid games with the audience instead of writing good stories to dive into. The cliffhanger was very annoying, then the fake-previews of how everybody gets a bat on the head was another game and the whole trip with the van and the axe was just plain stupid. After the thing with Carl's arm I just stopped watching it.

Negan is so annoying that it crosses the "4th dimension". He is so annoying that I don't want to watch the show. The games that Negan plays are in reality the games the writers are playing with the viewers.

Not fun anymore.

One point for the amazing makeup artists.

P.s.: All the good reviews are probably from people who work for AMC.

BEST EPISODE OF THE SHOW
horrorules14 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is undoubtedly the best episode of the whole show, from the first to the last minute the tension is palpable, Negan's ferocity is something extraordinary, I LOVE Negan, he is the best villain ever seen in a TV series. Every moment of this episode is pure ART. It is sad to see how TWD has become now, a sort of ridiculous and pathetic Soap Opera and the way in which Negan's character is treated today is obscene. I hope two things 1 - that Negan will come out of the way at the end of the tenth season so at least I can stop watching this pile of garbage (I still watch TWD only for Negan) 2 - that in the end Negan will return 100% evil as he was all beginning of this BEAUTIFUL episode.

The Cruelest Episode
claudio_carvalho23 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
After torturing Rick's group, Negan kills two members and takes the shocked Rick for a ride in the van. Negan tries to show power over Rick and subdues him. When they return, Negan feels that has not totally broken Rick and demands an extreme act from him; otherwise, the other survivors will die. What will Rick do?

"The Day Will Come When You Won't Be" is certainly the cruelest episode of "The Walking Dead". The Governor is a kid comparing to Negan and it will be hard to Rick and his group to recover from this day. All or at least most of the viewers will be thunderstruck after watching this episode. My vote is nine.

The Walking Dead in its prime
TheMelancholySpirit9 February 2021
Although it is not my favourite episode, The Day Will Come When You Won't Be is one of my favourite episodes and remains one of the best, it's as dark and haunting as it is gruesome, disturbing and empathetic. It's a very divided episode but remains one of the top in my book. Negan is excellent. The entire cast here is brilliant top to bottom. I remember watching this and it was so good it made me pick up in the graphic novel series. Four years and bit later, I think it's a peak episode, one of the true pinnacles as to why it's such a loved, talked about, engaging, massive worldwide series. It's sick, twisted, alarming, and anxiety inducing and by far one of the best of the entire show all in. A top 5 possibly in all of TWD. The show has created such a bleak atmosphere and outlook here. Amazing.

The most horrifying episode yet
annaily6 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This show has had countless gruesome and disturbing moments that show the insanity of people in a total end of the world scenario. I didn't think it could get much worse than the unflinching cannibals at terminus who had a human slaughterhouse like it was no big deal.

But Negan is the evil villain to end all evil villains.

And the show nailed it perfectly. He's a power hungry maniac, driven to the most extreme loss of humanity and demonstration of power that is truly entirely realistic in such a world. And what I really appreciate about this episode is that they did not have a single moment where he wavered. That would've ruined it. Because you keep hoping for the spark of humanity or for someone to pop out the forest with a rifle and end it all the way it normally goes, but it never comes, and that makes it all the more terrifying and so exhausting and draining to watch.

The acting is phenomenal on all sides. It is the most helpless, scared, and powerless we have ever seen Rick. And JD Morgan nails Negan's aggressive, insane, hypermasculine, sadistic, power trip perfectly.

The only thing is that it really made me wonder how the women we met in the carol and Maggie hostage situation could be a part of this group. They seemed relatively normal and just trying to survive. If you're brainwashed by a maniac, you aren't going to be as normal and sympathetic as those women, although they were harsh, they were pretty chill and nice compared to their group.

***Maybe Negan is charming when he's not bashing in people's brains with a spiked bat, but when those girls said "you are not the good guys" to Maggie, and they showed some humanity and empathy, it presented a conflict that the show dropped immediately and instead just made them 100% the bad guys.***

It seems like any followers of negan would either be just as maniacal and power hungry as he is or too afraid of him to go against him but either way, someone who hasn't had all their humanity brainwashed and beaten out of them, wouldn't call him the good guys. "We are all negan".... no, they had humanity. The we are all Negan line should've meant they were brainwashed into being as evil as he, but they were far from it.

The "you all are not the good guys" line was one of the most powerful lines to me personally because it showed that everyone is trying to survive, and if we had been following the perspective of another group this whole time, then we'd want Ricks group dead too. But not negan. He's too far gone and a total power hungry sociopathic maniac. It ruined that powerful line. Maybe no one else found that powerful other than me, I guess.

I like the conflict the show plays on where it shows that our protagonists are killers too, that they aren't necessarily "the good guys" but compared to negans group they absolutely are. So that powerful line and conflict that the relatively normal, nice women presented was just completely dropped and forgotten about when negans group ends up being undoubtedly pure evil.

The Episode That Absolutely Without A Doubt, Redeemed Season 6's Finale Cliffhanger
Gresh85423 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Me and I'm sure many fans of the Walking Dead, were disappointed by Season 6's "Cheap" and "Crazy" cliffhanger. The Day Will Come When You Won't Be, is by far the most psychologically, and memorizing Walking Dead episode ever. For along time my all time favorite episode of The Walking Dead was Too Far Gone from Season 4, which was an action packed mid-season finale. Season 7, episode 1, just might have topped that episode. Not only were the deaths in this season crazily done, but everything has so far improved from season 6. I was never a big fan of season 6, I found it to be a very boring drag, with a couple good episodes. This episode has taken improvement to a whole other level. The editing in this episode is so well done and haunting, and really added to the episode. Lets just get out of the way that the acting in this was unbelievably perfect. The way everyone acted was perfection, especially from Andrew Lincoln and of course Jeffrey Dean Morgan, plus Lauren Cohen was great. This is the first Walking Dead episode, where I truly feel like the group is actually powerless. The group until now was always at the top of their game but now they seem to be under control by a new level of power. Now of course I have to talk about the deaths, which were probably the best deaths of all time in Walking Dead history. Abraham's death was definitely gross and disturbing, but just when I though things couldn't get any more screwed up, Glenn is beaten to death and it was the most disturbing thing I have ever seen on The Walking Dead. Glenn's death definitely left a hole in my chest, and made me incredibly sad, but I think in honor of Glenn, that death was pretty incredibly badass. Now these deaths happen about mid-way through the episode, but the episode still progressively moves. There is a final act that was intense as hell and had me trembling for like 15 minutes, it was amazing. Guys, The Walking Dead season 7 not only is off to a perfect start, but it's also a new path for The Walking Dead. This show is going to change for the better and I cannot wait. Props to everyone involved in this episode it blew my mind! 10/10

The most disturbing and shocking episode of TWD
viktor041723 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Holy sh*t. This episode was too painful to watch. After almost 7 months of waiting, we finally got our answers that who is the one who died, but after that, everyone thinks that it would be better to not know. This was a start for a season, and a way to introduce Negan to the audience. He completely terrorized Rick and made him fear from him. That scene was intense as well, I was shaking all the time. God, I didn't expect this from TWD. I'm looking forward to see what will happen after this, everything will be much worse, that's for sure.

Now, with SPOILERS! I warned you!

I knew that Abraham would be the one who got Lucille, but I didn't expect that Glenn took it as well! I was surprised in shock when Negan hit him as well with Lucille, after Daryl confronted him. When he tried to speak to Maggie... Jesus, that was horrible to watch. Maggie went completely hearthbroken (of course, it's understandable), and everyone else as well. Then when Negan wanted to made Rick to cut Carl's arm... when you thought you were already saw the worst, there comes that scene. Rick was in shock and broken, we saw him like that the first time.

Like I said, this was an intense, shocking and very disturbing episode to watch. I feel sorry for the character(s) we lost, we'll see what happens next.

Walking Dead Payoff
ramair35024 October 2016
For those of you who were disappointed with the cliffhanger last season, rest assured there is plenty of payoff in this episode. I appreciate what the writers did with the show. This one is just plain hard to watch, but it is incredibly gripping and entertaining, which at the end of the day is why we all watch. I personally have never felt a buildup of a TV show like this (and I'm "old" and well into my 40s); I literally was nervous to the point where I didn't want to eat, drink, or even blink. That, folks, is good television, period.

In summary, well done; I can't wait to watch what happens as this season unfolds!

Shocking.
Potepuh24 October 2016
I really liked the series up to the middle of 6th season, when things started to slow down a little... as if creators had run out of ideas (even though they follow the original comics, they follow them loosely at ends). But moments after Negan's introduction in the season 6 finale, I got really excited again - anybody familiar with the comics knows, how bad ass this guy is. Seeing the premiere today, I was really shocked by the brutality of what happens. You get to find out who Negan's (or better yet, Lucille's) victim becomes and what happens after that. I loved the episode - it captured the violent, scary, gruesome atmosphere perfectly. Too much violence perhaps, for my taste, actually. All the actors play their roles great, with Rick topping them all. That's all I'm about to say - the wait is over, results are here, watch the episode and prepare to be shocked.

One of the most disturbing pieces I have ever seen!
ta-4073419 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I still don't get the mixed reviews by critics. Watching a horror show and then complain about "torture porn" and feeling uncomfortable? Yes it probably was the most uncomfortable episode ever and we lost two main characters in the most gory way. But that was an absolute necessity and I will explain why:

This episode goes to the core of what The Walking Dead is about. It is not about the dead that turn, it is about the living that turn. It's about realising that civilisation is just an illusion, a concept invented to keep us from despairing. This episode reproduces the feeling of hopelessness and helplessness of a crushed down society for the viewer like no other episode before. The atmosphere is as thick as hardly anything I've seen on TV or cinema. Could this have been achieved without extreme uncomfortableness? No. Could Negan have been portrayed this unparalleled monument of a totalitarian, charismatic psychopath without this level of brutality? No.

I would call this poetic disturbance, completely devastating, but with so much psychological depth. Rick, a character who has been built up six long seasons to such a strong leader, gets broken in one single episode. And you totally believe it. And you know at once you were watching something monolithic.

Moderately in between here
TheLittleSongbird7 September 2020
Will admit to being one of many to be hugely disappointed by the Season 6 finale "Last Day on Earth", what had the potential to be the best episode of the season sadly ended up to be the most frustrating one despite the hugely promising introduction of Negan, and no it was not just the ending. Having said that, to me it still wasn't that awful as there were good things such as the astounding performance of Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

"The Day Will Come When You Won't Be" has gotten quite vehement defense, with a lot of people finding it a powerful episode and a big improvement over the previous season's finale. It also has just as vehement hate, with just as many people that felt that the violence was overkill and that it was an unnecessarily unpleasant episode. Personally am somewhere in between regarding "The Day Will Come When You Won't Be", leaning towards moderately liking it, and can totally see both sides. To me, it is quite a lot better than "Last Day on Earth", while still having some of that episode's problems, and is one of the better episodes of Season 7 (widely considered one of the worst seasons of 'The Walking Dead' for good reason), but could have been better.

Good things are quite a big number. Generally, it is a well made episode though it is not perfect in this regard. As slick and gritty as always and atmospherically photographed. The music is hauntingly brooding and doesn't feel heavy-handed, likewise with the audio. There is a lot more tension here and personally did feel more emotion, namely from the clearly genuine reactions from the survivors to Negan's truly brutal actions which really wrench the gut. The episode starts off in a quite powerful fashion, it don't feel as over-stretched, too long or quite as draggy. There also is not a subplot that felt pointless or misplaced, it focuses solely as a continuation of what was introduced in "Last Day on Earth".

Negan, before he became an overused caricature, continues to be a promising character and Jeffrey Dean Morgan is really quite chilling in the most brilliant of ways portraying him. Andrew Lincoln gives an intense and deeply felt performance. In fact, the acting is all fine.

However, do have to agree with those that had issues with the violent tone though this was not an example of something single-handedly bringing a film, episode, show, production, cartoon etc. down. There are a few other issues too. 'The Walking Dead' is often brutally uncompromising, so criticising an episode for being violent does sound when reading reviews before watching redundant. The problem though was how it was used, it was too excessively overkill with it being too much, quite distasteful and borderline sadistic.

As said, for me there were other things that could have been done better too. Some of the editing, particularly in the early portions, was a bit too gimmicky and like it was trying to be too clever. The dialogue is not an improvement to before, Negan's especially was really tediously long-winded and it did affect the momentum as in the more rambling moments the episode can go dead.

Concluding, a long way from being prime-'The Walking Dead' but by Season 7 standards "The Day Will Come Before You Won't Be" actually doesn't fare too badly. Much worse followed. 7/10

I don't even care about the gore and violence, I just no longer care about the characters. I did once, for while. But they started to lose me around Season 3. Since then every now and then some new interesting character appears, then slowly becomes less and less interesting. Then they die. Repeat.

No one really develops. They are introduced, go through their one and only character development. Then either return to who they were or remain who they have become. It almost works if you binge watch straight through, but over 7 seasons it feels like they're going in circles. Which they are. Every now and then a new writer comes in and lo and behold, they give the characters some dialogue about dying or death or suffering. And after you've heard from everyone five or six times it gets very boring.

The show is going nowhere. Absolutely nowhere. There is no end game. There is no point. Originally they were making parallels about society, people, relationships. Now it's just long drawn out suffering. Find a safe haven, lose safe haven, find safe haven, lose safe haven.

In the back of my mind I started losing interest around Season 3, midway through Season 6 is when I completely gave up. I came back to watch the Season 6 finale and the Season 7 opener and I can see nothing's changed. This Negan character they have been building up is not half as interesting as they seem to think. He comes across as a comic book villain. That's not good on TV.

The target market for this show has shifted heavily toward teen/young-adult. That's fine. But if you're older like me and no longer full of rage, no longer looking for an outlet for life's frustrations, all you will find here is people being nasty to each other while they moan about their existence. Younger me would have loved all this nihilism but as I've gotten older I'm looking for something a little more than paper cardboard 'bad guys' who simply don't exist in real life. I'm looking for more substance. With a show that actually has something to say.

Where they started to lose me in Season 3 was a town full of people who lived happily without asking any questions, with no rumours, no escapes, no questioning of authority. Now we've got a similar situation but we've 'progressed' to hoards of psychopaths going around like bandits in a pulpy samurai film or video game asking for tributes. It's so one-dimensional. I don't dispute that such gangs would form and only such psychotic people could survive, but the in-fighting and power struggles, the rebellion and back-stabbing would be rampant amongst those people. As is the case in modern gangs. That would be far more fascinating to focus on. To see the shades of humanity, not just the extremes of it. But in The Walking Dead they just use them as puppets. As targets for Rick and the others to unite against. There are no grey areas. It's very black and white. Goodies and baddies. Apart from the R18 gore, it all seems very childish.

There's still some quality acting. Some excellent special effects. Some interesting zombie moments but it's really being let down in the writing both on the level of dialogue and more importantly character arcs and overall arching story lines.

Not sure if it really deserves a 1. But that's exactly how I felt after the episode. Like someone had just unloaded all their hatred with the world on me. It was unpleasant and annoying. It might have worked if I had cared about the characters, but as I said, I stopped caring about them some time ago.
