I'm quite enjoying it.

It's one of those shows that I am liking, but I'll be honest and say it's not the funniest thing I've seen on Earth, but it's good a few lighter moments.

Big fan of Josh Widdicomne, he's a superb stand up, it does feel a little like his talents are being slightly wasted, but there is something nice about the show, Elis James is another funny man, and i find him likable in the show too, Beattie Edmondson is fun, and Jack Dee is Jack Dee.

I'll continue watching, I'll admit it's not side splitting, but it's likable enough. 6/10

People are being very unfair

This isn't going to appeal to all. If you older than the cast as in the last generation to have all their kids before they were 35 will not get this. They will have never lived in shared accommodation which I think is probably key here too. I'm sure some will appreciate anyway and you can't put people into pigeon holes I suppose.

Ok show

Big fan of Josh stand up, but what's with the constant characterization of Portuguese women as fat, loud, ugly and stupid on TV? Josh mate, you're better than this. Also, I might add, there's plenty of Portuguese actresses that speak fluent English. Just get one of those instead of some English person attempting Portuguese. See the Portuguese king fiasco on the Tudors. Pathetic. I'm continuing watching though because, despite your show prolonging stupid stereotypes of cultures you clearly don't know, I still enjoy this for light relaxing viewing. I hope one day you finally meet a Portuguese woman. Also, why on earth wouldn't she be wearing a uniform if she was a cleaner in a big company? What's with that clothing?

Overall, this show can be funny at times!

Well, better dash and put on my dirty poor clothes to clean the old flat, like the fatty ugly Portuguezer I am.

Very Good Sitcom
verdukiandan16 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
OK it's more like a solid 7 out of 10 but I think the 1 star reviewers are being unfair slating this while making their own weak attempts at humour.

It's a BBC3 sitcom so you should know what to expect. The writing is good and the cast have a believable chemistry and brilliant timing.

Josh (Josh Widdicombe) is excellent, Owen (Elis James) is very Welsh - I had to rewind twice to catch his line about Robbie Savage bringing back the Ugg boot! - and Kate (Beattie Edmondson) is adorable and very funny. Geoff (Jack Dee) is the weakest character in my opinion.

Definitely worth a watch, particularly if you enjoy Josh Widdicombe's stand up.

Depressingly unfunny

This show is like a sitcom minus the com. It's so bad it feels like it had a laugh track to it, but then they removed it because they felt that even the disingenuous pre-recorded laughter gave this show more credit as a comedy than it deserved. Everything about this show is a dry play-by-numbers of abused clichés that should never have been approved by the desperate horde of BBC production staff after the roofies Josh Widdecomb supplied them with had worn off. This show seems to whisper each line with the reserved embarrassment that it deserves. It genuinely made me feel sad. I approached this with an open mind and a willingness to be entertained but the longer I watched this in hope of some redeeming feature, the more I felt like the postponement of my liberation from this was some sort of cruel prison.

I can't think of many comedies worse than this from the BBC. Josh Widdecomb is incredibly tiresome in every way, from the undeserved appearance of smug self-fulfilment to his repetitive use of his irritating tone voice which parallels in its annoyance with that of Michael McIntyre.

I cannot imagine anyone sitting through this unless they came home from a long day at work, opened up a bottle of wine or cyanide (depending on how hard the day was), switching the TV on and then sitting down before realising the remote control was missing, being too tired to find it and then ending up following the wine with the cyanide.

Avoid this at all costs. I hope the desperation of the BBC talent pool evolves beyond the enabling of such traumas as this show and the tolerance of all things Josh Widdecomb.

I only awarded this show as high of a rating as 1 because of the quality of lighting and camera-work that you would expect from a national broadcaster like the BBC.

I can imagine this show being on repeat in a waiting room at a dignitas euthanasia clinic in Switzerland & if I am ever since one suffer the misfortune of being subjected to another episode then I may make a reservation there myself.

Very watchable comedy
lukemedia217 October 2016
I came across this sitcom late in the series by accident and I'm very glad I did. I hadn't seen a promo for it so had no preconceptions but it drew me in. I really enjoyed it so went back and downloaded the series from the start. It's one of those nice little sitcoms that you can put on to cheer you up knowing it's going to deliver. It's as good as any modern sitcom that I've seen and better than most, so I feel the previous reviews slating it are unnecessarily negative. Apart from the fact it's a sitcom, there is no real comparison to my family. That was very safe and mainstream with a weak gag every 10 seconds, 'Josh' is more subtle and I think nicely written. I haven't seen a weak episode yet. If you enjoy /appreciated shows like 'Spaced', 'Still Game' or 'People doing nothing ', I can't see any reason why this won't satisfy. This sitcom is up to date and often laugh out loud funny. All of the characters are likable, believable and subtly acted. Kate's mum being played by Jennifer Saunders is a nice addition. Don't listen to the misery's giving it 1 star. It's definitely worth a watch to make up your own mind.

Absolute garbage.
joachimokeefe22 November 2015
Just what TV needs: A show about white English middle-class flatmates. Widdecombe has struck exactly the right anodyne, banal note that Michael Macintyre bases his act on. Moreover, 'Josh' is a perfect development of the edgy, sophisticated, deeply satirical family dynamic set up in the late lamented 'My Family'. Well, the only part of that that is accurate is that 'Josh' is like 'My Family' without any recognisable gags whatsoever. You remember 'gags', Josh Widdecombe? They're the bits in the script that are supposed to make people laugh. Your rubbish sitcom doesn't contain any. None. Zilch. It's simply unfunny. Add to that the fact that the characters are indistinguishable from shop window mannequins and the best you could say is that Josh Widdecombe's writing couldn't get any worse. Should it transpire that Mr. W gets another sitcom greenlighted, we can safely take it that he has relatives higher up the BBC commissioning ladder who are prepared to overlook his ineptitude.

Uncomfortably Hilarious
janefoor17 July 2022
I see myself in Josh's awkwardness. Funny in an uncomfortable way, just like real life! Josh's friends are all flawed in unique ways. You end up wishing the best for them even though their pain is what makes it funny!

A Grower

I quite like Josh W and Ellis, Jack Dee is just Jack, brilliant.

Watched a couple of episodes as wanted something new to watch and initially found it a bit meh.

It's not a laugh a minute comedy but after watching a few more episodes and eventually the entire series I watched them all again.

The penny dropped, put yourself in the show and you become one of the flat mates and feel like you're part of the shenanigans. It's defo male oriented but Beattie is perfect and there are guest comics and well known actors supporting the main cast.

Don't write it off , give it a chance, I did and it would be great to see a new series.

Ps...Jack dee is great as the annoying landlord who is forever just turning up unannounced.

Those that have said this is crap just don't get it.

Unwatchable
E73VEN28 February 2018
I gave the first series a try and struggled to the end. Then second series arrived and just couldn't force myself to continue.

Jack Dee is terribly unfunny in this, actually he is kind of creepy.

A lot of good comedians and actors are in this, but somehow it doesn't fall into place. It is difficult to watch, the stories are unfunny, the 'humour' is rare.

I don't find Josh Widdicombe funny in most occasions - he sparked a bit on the stand-up circuit some time ago, but now is out of date. Expired.

Not amazing but not terrible
elodiedanzelman28 May 2021
I'm a big fan of British comedy so i'd thought i should check this out. I'll be honest, it's not the best. I like Josh Widdecombe but this could have been a lot better. The acting is a bit crap but in a way makes it more funny. Personally i think the character of Geoff, the annoying landlord who won't leave them alone is a lot like Jim from the channel 4 sitcom Friday Night Dinner, just a more sane and less funny version. The plots for the episodes are clever and funny but it's not really Laugh out loud hilarious and i definitely won't rush to watch it again. If it wasn't for Ellis James then i would probably rate it even lower!

Edit: I take this all back, it's 7 months later and i'm rewatching. It's actually great. Watch it again and you will appreciate it more 👍changing to 10/10.

Utter Garbage!
wtfcaniuse21 June 2018
This is the second worst sitcom I've ever watched. The characters are shallow, poorly acted and supremely unlikeable. The script is terrible and unfunny. The production and direction is below B grade. As others have said there are no jokes or humour, subtle or otherwise. It's a monotone mess. Granted I'm not much of a Widdicombe fan but his standup and hosting on the last leg at least delivers a few chuckles. I was shocked to see Jack Dee given such a poor role and script that do nothing to show off his particular brand of humour.

Anyone comparing this to Spaced or Still game needs their head checked, it's not in the same league, at all.

Great comedy plotting. Recognise all the characters from my post in days trying to relive old times.

Definitely better than watching nothing.
georgehughes987 February 2023
If you're a fan of Fraiser then I'm sure you will be a fan of JOSH, I've just binged the whole thing and I can say for certain that it was definitely better than doing nothing. I would be intrigued now to find out what happened to the characters of JOSH, and what antics they are getting up to now. My least favourite comedy is the Big Bang Theory, and my favourite is Seinfeld, though this feels different to both, I won't give anything away as want people to make up their own minds, to be honest, I think people should just go and watch JOSH instead of reading reviews online, PLEASE GO AND WATCH JOSH.

I want to love it but it's impossible to
smartarsebutler8 November 2018
For years I had caught snippets of this show and it appealed to me as much as Not Going Out, which I'd NOT ONE BIT. However having a soft spot for jack Dee and Elis James I decided to give it a go. I dragged myself through the entire series and was very disappointed. Also Beattie Edmonson CAN NOT ACT. She's terrible! I mentioned this to someone in comedy at the bbc and was informed it's well known she is there for anything but her talent. Makes sense. The best I can say for this is that if you're poorly in bed you can have it in the background playing and you can easily ignore it if needed, and you don't laugh. Not the highest praise

Wow this is really bad
gsethi-124 July 2020
The writing is just pathetic and puerile and Jack Dee has based himself as Ricky Gervais' character in Extras TV parody When The Whistle Blows! Seriously, Widdecombe isn't the funniest person on TV and I think he's a better funny presenter than a comic per se! One to avoid I think!
