Don't go to the wine cellar with Madison. Warning: Spoilers
The Zombie Apocalypse is really starting to take its toll on our characters in the mid season finale of FEAR THE WALKING DEAD, titled "Shiva." The blended and extended family came apart under the weight of events as Chris, Daniel, Travis and Nick all staggered under the strain as things literally went to hell on the Abigail estate. And Madison shows a real dark side when she locks Celia in the wine cellar with the Walkers, one of whom is her Zombie son. The last few episodes have shown a lot of character development, most of which make a lot of sense in the circumstances as Travis and Madison's brood thought they had found a safe haven, but of course, this is the Walking Dead universe, where there is no such thing. The Abigail estate joins Hershel Greene's farm, the Prison, and Terminus on the list of infamy.

And there were a lot character turns we did see coming; everyone knew Chris was having rejection issues, especially after he took a knife to Madison and Alicia's bedroom last week, but few predicted Travis's decision to go off with his clearly disturbed son when he finally realizes how messed up Chris really is; we all heard Daniel's voices, but we finally got to see how heavy the ghosts of his past were on his conscience and how far he would go to exorcise them.

But it is Nick who was the biggest surprise and the sight of him, covered in blood and gore calmly strolling off with the Walkers, leaving his family behind, has truly made him the most fascinating character on the show. This former epic screw up and heroin addict has now found a place where he belongs. It opens the door to all sorts of possibilities with him in the future.

Loved Marlene Forte's Celia, could anybody be more sinister when they smiled? And is Madison's maiden name Dixon, that hardness in her had to come from somewhere. Glad Colman Domingo's Strand survived; not happy to see Daniel go, he was a real badass and every Zombie Apocalypse needs one. We didn't actually see him die, so there is still hope he'll be back.

This second season of FEAR THE WALKING DEAD got off to a slow start to say the least, but starting in the third episode, it really picked up the pace. Some of the characters who'd been flat and uninteresting have become quite complex; can't wait for the second half to begin in August.

Not feeling engaged
Coolmade200025 July 2021
This might not be a very helpful review, but all I could say is that I had such a hard time watching this episode. I was so not feeling engaged with the direction this story was leading. I didn't enjoy the last half of the episode because the ending was left was a bad creative choice in my opinion. I'm not completely rating this episode on a negative note because I somewhat understand where the story will be heading towards in future episodes and seasons as well as respecting the way this episode was filmed.

Chaotic Episode & Good Cliffhanger
panagiotis199316 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So Celia is mad and wants everybody to leave because Strand didn't let Thomas turn into a zombie, so she can add him to her zombie collection? Like I said in the previous episode she is absolutely insane. Wow how was Nick able to go get Luis and bring him back? Doesn't seem very believable. Nick the zombie whisperer lol. Daniel is losing his mind. Chris threatens to kill an innocent kid? What is going on with that character? The writers don't seem to care about him, he keeps getting worse. I really don't want Daniel to lose his mind, he keeps hearing voices, that's not good. Celia's behavior is definely villainous. Daniel to Celia: ''Those creatures you keep, they are an abomination, an act against God''. Well said Daniel. So for them to stay they have to accept Celia's nonsense about the zombies? Just leave already so you don't have to deal with her insanity. Daniel setting the zombies on fire was really satisfying, I hope Celia is dead. So what will happen to Nick, Travis, Chris and Daniel? What a cliffhanger! Why such a low rating, this episode was good. My rating is 7.5/10.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was one of the worst episodes so far, only the tragic death of Daniel Salazar was a remarkable part in this episode.

"Shiva," acts as a pivotal moment for the series, signaling the disintegration of what seemed like a temporary safe haven and thrusting the characters into unforeseen chaos
fernandoschiavi11 April 2024
Celia is furious with Strand "killing" Thomas and wants him and the group gone but Nick manages to convince her let his family stay by bringing back zombified Luis. Travis goes to find Chris and discovers how far his insanity has gone. Deciding that Chris is not ready to around people and they go off on their own. He tells Nick to let them know they're alright.

At the compound, Daniel attacks a guard and is taken to the cellar where Celia encourages him to make peace with his dead and he hallucinates his wife and people he killed before. Madison, believing that Celia is dangerous, lures her to her cellar and locks her in with the dead. Daniel escapes his prison and sets the place on fire and does not try to escape. Strand arrives with a truck to take Madison, Alicia, and a hysterical Ofelia from the scene. Nick is disgusted by what his mother has done and leaves on his own.

"Shiva," acts as a pivotal moment for the series, signaling the disintegration of what seemed like a temporary safe haven and thrusting the characters into unforeseen chaos. The episode opens with the aftermath of the tragic events at Thomas Abigail's estate, particularly focusing on Celia's fury over the death of her son and the implications of Strand's actions. The resulting tension exacerbates the already fragile alliances within the group, setting off a chain of emotional and violent reactions that challenge their unity and survival.

The episode dives deep into personal and psychological turmoil, especially for Daniel, who begins to unravel under the weight of his past sins. Haunted by visions of his deceased wife and the many people he has killed, Daniel's mental state deteriorates, leading to dramatic and destructive actions that have severe consequences for everyone. Meanwhile, Madison's attempt to manipulate Celia to ensure the group's safety backfires, resulting in Madison and Strand being banished from the estate. This expulsion is emblematic of the broader themes of the episode-trust, betrayal, and the ongoing struggle to maintain any semblance of civilization in a crumbling world.

"Shiva" ends with the group fractured and scattered, with Nick walking away disillusioned with his mother's choices, symbolizing his loss of faith in her leadership and their old ways of survival. This dispersal sets the stage for new challenges and dynamics to explore as each character must now navigate their path to survival in an increasingly hostile environment. The episode excels in its exploration of the psychological depth of its characters, showcasing their vulnerability and resilience in the face of existential threats.

Now we're talking!
richards-iain29 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
OK, this season got off to a slow start, but things REALLY picked up the pace in the last few episodes, resulting in a blinder of a mid season finale. I do hope that Celia somehow made it put of that cellar (secret door?), as she was a deliciously cold and convincing villain- a stand out performance. Nick broken and lost, somehow finding comfort with the dead, while the rest of the family fractures... I really did not see any of this coming, and applaud the tension caused by the completely unpredictable course of events! I'm now totally hooked, finally convinced of the awesomeness of this show, and I really didn't see that coming either!

Warning: Spoilers
2x7 rating: 6.3/10

Storyline: In a flashback, a young Daniel Salazar stands beside a pond full of dead bodies in the Salvadoran jungle. "Take the gun, Daniel," a man tells him. Daniel and Ofelia wake to the sound of a gunshot. As they run outside, Ofelia starts to peel the skin off of her face. Daniel wakes up: It was a nightmare. He hears people running in the hall.

Everyone runs to Thomas' room, where Strand has shot Thomas in the head. Celia screams at Strand for killing Thomas instead of allowing him to turn. Travis asks Alicia to help him find Chris. She refuses, explaining that Chris was holding a knife beside her bed. Celia forbids Strand from burying Thomas and attacks him when he declares that Thomas was not her son. Celia orders Strand and his group to leave by the next day. Travis sees Chris in a vineyard, but Chris runs away.

The next day, Daniel secretly sharpens a razor blade and pockets it. Travis, having spent all night searching for Chris, finds an infected that he has stabbed through the head. Chris watches Travis from afar. Travis follows a trail of fallen infected that leads him to a Mexican man inside a shack. The man tries to send Travis away, but Travis collapses from injuries to his bare feet. Madison tells Nick and Alicia to quietly pack supplies so that they can flee to the Abigail and escape Celia's clutches. Alicia refuses to return to the boat, while Nick defends Celia.

Nick leads a turned Luis to Celia after venturing outside the estate, masked by infected blood. Celia invites Nick to stay at the estate. He convinces her to allow his family to stay with him as well, but is told that Strand must leave. As Strand digs a grave for Thomas, Daniel urges him not to bury him in such an unholy place. Strand notices Daniel's unusual behavior and asks what's wrong with him. Meanwhile, Madison confronts Nick about his fascination with the dead and asks if Celia told him to find Luis. Nick argues that Celia merely wanted her son back, and offers to bring Travis back, as well. He tells Madison that the infected will not touch him. "I will not die," he declares.

Daniel tells Ofelia that Griselda, his dead wife, is waiting for them in the afterlife. He grabs her and slashes a man who tries to restrain him. A group of men holds Daniel down. Madison confers with Strand about Nick. Strand is not surprised that Celia was able to indoctrinate a young and vulnerable addict. He invites Madison to join him on the Abigail, but she refuses to leave without Travis. The man in the shack gives Travis some shoes and tries to shoo him out of the house. Travis sees movement underneath the bedroom door. The man whispers to Travis that Chris threatened to hurt his son if he didn't make Travis leave. Travis barges into the room and finds Chris holding the man's son at gunpoint. Travis and Chris struggle, ending with Travis wrestling the knife from him. "I'm no good," Chris says.

After Celia delivers a eulogy beside Thomas' grave, she tells Strand to leave. Ofelia demands to see Daniel, but Celia says he's too dangerous. Celia brings food to Daniel, who is tied up in a storage room, and urges him to seek forgiveness from his dead. Daniel hears Griselda's voice. After Celia leaves, Griselda's ghost appears before him. Nick finds Travis, who says that Chris needs him and that Madison must be told he couldn't find him. Nick leaves Travis with a knife for protection. Madison implores Celia to let Strand stay, but Celia tells her that she must learn to accept the infected just like Nick does. Madison asks Celia to help her understand.

Daniel talks to Griselda and reflects on all of the people he's killed. "What about the one that haunts you now?" Griselda asks. In a flashback, young Daniel looks at the pool of dead bodies and notices one of the men is still alive. A man hands him a gun and tells him to shoot. Daniel complies. "The first victim was you," Griselda tells Daniel. Celia takes Madison to the cellar and enters the cell to show Madison all of her infected "children". Madison closes the gate, locking Celia in.

Jorge unties Daniel to give him some food. Daniel attacks Jorge and escapes. "I'm waiting for you," Griselda tells Daniel.

Sofia and the staff escort Strand to the gate. Alicia and Strand wave goodbye to each other as Sofia closes the gate.

Inside the infected-filled wine cellar, Daniel pours gasoline lights it on fire. Instead of seeing the infected, he hallucinates all of the people he has killed when Griselda emerges from the crowd and smiles. The flames lick at Daniel's feet.

After the fire suddenly consumes the estate, Strand sneaks back in and steals a pick-up truck.

Nick sees the estate on fire.

Madison runs into the storage room and sees Jorge unconscious on the floor and leaves him in search of Daniel.

Outside, Alicia restrains Ofelia, who is crying for Daniel. "He's gone," Alicia says. Strand pulls up in the truck and urges them to get in. Nick walks up to Madison and says he couldn't find Travis. He suspiciously asks where Celia is. "She was right about us," he says. "We destroy everything." Strand forces Madison into the truck as Nick turns his back on her. They watch a blood-slathered Nick walk away untouched among the infected. As Strand and the women flee the compound, Nick walks with the zombies, ignoring his mother and the truck. Outside, Travis and Chris wander through the hillside.

Epic Episodes
FreakRenegade23 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Epic, wonderful wonderful, I have no words to describe it. Travis has finally realized that it's all his the fault if Chris being hurt. He had to think about it before abandoning the child, preferring not to his children; He might love everyone without excluding anyone, and did not do it. Chris who hates himself so much because it is the wrong son. He can not understand why he was not given a bit of love: Nick his wonderful descent into oblivion: amazing the final where he walks among you dead. The poetic representation of how he was alive is actually more dead of the dead themselves. Madison finally makes a good thing, Celia kills. Madison and a mother who wants to protect their children; collides with Celia a desperate mother who clings to eternal survival, why not admit and do not want to accept the idea that children are actually dead. Victor among glossy cowardliness is will to survive floats hoping to do the right thing. Daniel poetic and visionary in its descent to madness, underestimated a lot, he could give much. Alicia useless as always

They Destroy Everything
claudio_carvalho18 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
"Fear the Walking Dead" is certainly among the worst TV series ever produced. And "Shiva" is probably one of the worst episodes of this show. This group of survivors now arrives in Mexico at a property that is prosperous, plenty of food, water and supplies in general. The residents welcome Madison and her family and friends and a few episodes later, the sanctuary is burned to the ground. It is amazing how this small group of unpleasant people is destructive. The psychopaths Daniel and Chris are probably the worst characters of this series. The writers maybe noted how bad these characters are and have found a way to get rid of Daniel, Chris, Travis and Nick to fix the series. Amen. My vote is five.

The ultimate mix between cringe and nonsense
sraslan-2873014 October 2023
Well I don't know where to start with this bad series but this episode is easily one of the hardest things I had to watch in my life!!

You can't stand the un-logical decisions by characters, nothing make sense and the poor idiotic dialogs.

I wish they get rid of Chris, Travis, Nick and maybe Alicia since these characters are dumb as hell and have survival instincts of a snails.

Poor writing and horrible producing and the ending is so annoying and idiotic.

I can't believe how bad this series is and how they manage to make everything this bad! What a wasted potentials and a bad decision making.
