Nice movie, represent the culture or uttrakhand
simranmaithani12 March 2021
Although movie is great but the story is all about what women has to face but neither all things that are shown are true nor they all are false.. it's all about the mentality of every person.. Or it's a remote area which is growing day by day and people are even growing and changing..now they are more aware about the education and other important factors that matters for womens,as compare to the earlier time... So yeah if you want to see the culture, people and the view of Uttrakhand this movie is great

Drama and dharma.
elzaholt14 March 2017
In this cinematic poem, a renowned Serbian/Balkan director/screenwriter makes movie magic when he tackles the subject of an NRI returning to his homeland, the northern Indian state where the land meets the sky (the country of the gods, Dev Bhoomi). The courage of women and the stubborn traditionality of men, as well as an intractable caste system and the struggle for enlightenment, are depicted with clarity and tenderness. A guruji in a Himalayan ashram prompting his devotee not to judge but rather, to know and love human beings, is typecast with the purity and simplicity of life affirmation. The colors are as vivid and wholesome as the mountain air, and the music is beguiling though unsentimental, unlike the standard syrupy songs by Bollywood. The Uttarakhand Himalayas are oddly evocative, to those of us who are familiar with the Balkans, of the ruggedness of the Balkan mountains. In fact, the two locales seem to be linked by a peculiar sense of familiarity in regards to the terrain as well as the treatment of women and attitude towards tradition. Thus, the film seems imbued with a synergic connection between the Balkans and northern India. Dare I conclude that it is very well possible that Serbia is closer to India than to its next- door Hungary?

A wonderful experience!
rajnikantuniyal8 April 2020
This is an exceptional movie. Can't believe the fact that such an authentic movie on Garhwal is a foreign production " Victor Banerji has once again proved that he is among the greatest actors. His body language, diction are unbelievably Garhwali. The ensemble cast is superb. Gitanjali Thapa and VK Sharma and Shalini Sunderiyal are gems. Hats off to the Serbians for producing this poetry on celluloid.

Godly Cinematic Connection of Human Soul
kuldeepkholia5 February 2022
Being Uttarakhandi, I connected to this movie deeply. It shows the stigmas of caste & gender discrimination, child marriage, unemployment, etc. And how it impacts the life of village people. Set in the background of Baba Kedar's Kedarnath, it is one of the best cinematic experiences in the landscape of nature.

But, on a broader scale, it is a movie for anyone seeking redemption from this circle of livelihood, children, family, career, success... where it looks as if they have achieved a lot & yet feeling so brittle, so ignorant.. incomplete. It is a genuine story of how one remains connected to the roots, no matter how far one may go.

'Land of the Gods' beautifully captures the struggles & pain of the simple villagers in its purest form.

Directed by a Serbian, it shows the village as it is without any biases. Definitely a must watch. Rarest of the Rare Gem!

Superficial and misjudged. Lost dots.
vashishtha1829 January 2021
The name of movie doesn't match the content or story of this movie except the fact that it's supposedly a story near Haridwar. The director has typically tried to portray casteism , struggle of women blaming patriarchy and named it after God's to gain popularity. The story tries to create a mystery till end showing a calm simple man who is self proclaimed innocent. Many dots of story left thrown here and there. Typically trying to show men or patriarchy creating problems in life of simple runaway attempted murderer communist.

Don't waste time trying to understand the story or join any dots. Then the movie will look better and freshly shot in beautiful Ganges bank.

Spiritual journey
kothiyalmohit6328 November 2018
The movie touches your mind from the beginning and ends with grabbing your soul . The director exalted the beauty of uttarakhand and displayed it in such a manner . His research work is impeccable. The actors did commendable job. The final scene leaves you with mouth of your soul open to such spiritual cinematic end.

Devbhoomi is not an epic-poetry seen through the eyes of a pilgrim or a tourist
tinkugho20 April 2021
Devbhoomi (2016). This is not an epic-poetry seen through the eyes of a pilgrim or a tourist; Talking about the internal truths of Kedarnath region. This movie is a translation of the real life of the inhabitants of Devbhoomi; The usual believable form of the common day life. Seeing the union of Himalayas, Mandakini and infinite sky ... this region is called the meeting place of heaven and earth. The story of becoming a god of small people to the helpless and endangered has got a bright form here.

Another great attraction of this film is the Significant gathering of a bunch of senior actors. Victor has made Goran Pascaljevic's film even more expensive with the grace of his balanced acting.

Low budget rubbish but with spectacular scenery
qui_j21 November 2021
This is a poorly produced movie with a totally dismal script. The agenda is clear. The editing is so choppy and disconnected that there is little in the way of continuity in the story telling. The beautiful landscape of the Himalayas in the background is the only redeeming feature of this movie.

Sorry and biased story telling
khanna-udit28 March 2021
Before you call me a misogynist nazi, read the full review. The movie is called dev bhoomi; evidently the director has depicted how he perceives that to be in Uttarakhand. Its based in a village in which almost everyone is nasty. If you've ever been to any part of Uttarakhand you'll know that this potrayal of mountain people is extremely biased and nefarious. There's almost no aspect of rural Uttarakhand which he thinks is remotely dharmic, and yet he calls the movie dev bhoomi. While his craft is passable, his understanding of India and her people is ignorant at best, and sinister at worst. Don't get me wrong - India isn't a bed of roses and I don't expect it to be delivered that way. Just don't pretend to show reality when you don't even try to see another side of it.

vague, disconneted , unmatching storyline
saliim-mohammed15 December 2021
4/10 stars .. may stories told but no one finished. Poor execution of stories, narration and characters.

1. All the time I wondered how a man aged 60+ be named Rahul, this name suites a character of a age group between 1-35 years 2. What was his (Rahul Negi) past, what was the story behind the murder.

3. The love story of Rahul and his partner was also unfinished.

4. In the End scene (not even a climax) how the teacher reached to Rahul.

5. At the end did the villagers accept him (Rahul) 6. In the story they also introduced his (rahul's) sister, what was the need, unnecessary and useless if that character is going to play a role in the story.

7. Most importantly, the guy who set the school on fire and murdered his newly wed younger wife, why not found guilty?

Fairy tales are better than this.

Only thing I liked is scenery (cinematographic shots)
