- On the day of Marley's funeral Bucket interviews Nancy. She gives him information leading to lawyer Jaggers, who tells Bucket that Marley had approached him to dissolve the partnership with Scrooge. Jaggers also informs Havisham that he will receive nothing from his father's will unless he carries out the duties of his position in the brewery, so he attends her New Year's Eve party but Compeyson also turns up, which upsets her. Frances Barbary meets an old friend, the elderly and wealthy Sir Leicester Dedlock but he only has eyes for Honoria.—don @ minifie-1
- On Marley's common burial day, Nancy tells Inspector Bucket that her bruised face is because of Marley and she too eagerly offers an alibi for Sikes. Vindictive Arthur planed to sabotage the brewery shareholders meeting, but a paternal testament codicil shown by attorney Jaggers, who can slash even his meager ten percent if he harms the firm, forces him to join Amelia for the grand New Year's reception, where Compeyson intrudes, icily snubbing Amelia as business-incompetent female, so as to scare off investors anyhow. France Barbarys runs into her ex-fiance's country neighbor Sir Leicester Dedlock, but admits over tea that she fibbed to her family about breaking off the engagement (which he actually did). Sir Leicester is enthralled by Honoria at first sight. Jaggers tells Inspector Bucket that Marley planned to leave his partnership with Scrooge. Martha and John's wedding approaches.—KGF Vissers
