Amateurish

Pretty ueless bit of investigative journalism. This is clearly not how property is bought with dirty money. The property, if viewed, would be by a 'company representative' where no real due-diligence checks on that company could be made and therefore the property would eventually be sold.

Singling out these bottom of the rung estate agents because they are the easiest targets and the only ones you could effectively record to make this documentary is absurd. The problem clearly lies at the top and the loopholes big business have created for all kinds of unethical reasons whilst politicians and officials do just enough about it so the brown envelopes keep appearing.

3/10 because I would never give someone who tries to unearth corruption a 0 no matter how inept.

Childish and reaching

Rated this as 1/10 as zero wasn't an option.

If the producers had done their homework, they'd have known that no due diligence or KYC is carried out on buyers before a viewing. Of course, any competent agent will ask pertinent questions about a buyer without offending them but when faced with what appears to be a corrupt Russian minister out with his mistress, and knowing what happens to people who face off with high ranking Russians, why on earth would you expect an estate agent to challenge what he's being told.

Whist Estate agents have a duty of care to run buyers through financial and status checks atvthe point of making an offer, they are not the police.

This was entrapment and a very poor attempt too.

Interesting topic. Terrible documentary.

Pretty rubbish piece of investigative journalism. There was so much to explore and unearth but they just focus on the easy target. It's lazy and misleading. It suggests the whole cause of the issue is just dodgy estate agents. It isn't a surprise to anyone that estate agents acting for sellers are only interested in getting the deal done and cashing in. Anyone who has dealt with an estate agent will know that.

There were bigger and more relevant issues to explore and this documentary doesn't deal with any of them! There was no investigation about the legal loop holes that lend themselves to these transactions. Nothing about solicitor involvement. Nothing about how this affects the London property market. No investigation into who the Russians are that are buying up these properties and what they do with them.

And then there are the QC barristers who added nothing. They just state the obvious in condescending tones. Don't offer any real legal analysis or insight into what needs legislating against.

Absolute time waste.

Russian money laundering schemes explained in bright lights and colors
ivo-ivan2 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Boris is an investigative journalist under cover, pretending to be Russian deputy minister of Healthcare, who is seeking to buy a very expensive luxury real estate in London.

Together with his "wife" (another investigative journalist) they engage in 5 different offers for real estates costing Millions.

And 5/5 go along with the deal after he made it perfectly clear these are stolen money from Russian Healthcare system.

A perfect illustration into why Western support against the aggressive war of Putin's regime in Ukraine has not been fully backed - because there is a lot of Russian capital, money and resources that are on the line. Western stakeholders don't want their income flow disrupted.

Plain and simple.

Entertaining but useless

As an estate agent myself, I found this a very entertaining show, however a lot of the agents are acting exactly the way they have been trained, as 'tipping off' before reporting to the company money laundering officer is seen as just as bad as not reporting it at all. I would be expected to agree, play along and report this before an offer is put to the vendor. Just another bit of TV designed to make agents look like the bad guys. That said, still an entertaining watch though!
