At the turn of the new millennium, 22-year old Martin Villeneuve decided to film his 88-year old grandmother over a whole day, and edited this short while studying filmmaking. In 2001, "Chrysanthème" was nominated for the "Création Vidéo Award" at the Clermont-Ferrand VidéoFormes Festival, France, and for "Best Experimental Documentary Short" at the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois, Canada.
Fourteen years after shooting this documentary short, filmmaker Martin Villeneuve portrayed his own grandmother in his short fiction dramedy Imelda (2014), for which he won an award for "Best Actor". He reprises the role in two sequels: Imelda 2: le notaire (2020) co-starring Robert Lepage, and Imelda 3: Simone (2020) co-starring Ginette Reno.
