Sean Penn, the controversial, two-time-Oscar-winning actor who first achieved notable acclaim for playing one-liner-spouting stoner Jeff Spicoli, is about to do something that he’s never done in his storied acting career: headline a television series, specifically, streaming series The First for Channel 4 and Hulu.
Penn, like an increasing amount of A-list actors, will take the television plunge in this new project, which was given a straight-to-series order by the streaming outlet back in May - a space exploration-themed story set in a near-future that will follow humanity’s first mission to colonise Mars.
Interestingly, the visionary behind the series is not one typically associated with the space/sci-fi/adventure genre. Beau Willimon, who is best known as the creator, writer and...

In what represents the two-time Oscar winner’s most significant foray into TV, Penn has signed on to star in The First, Hulu’s forthcoming Mars-themed drama series from House of Cards creator Beau Willimon.
Set in the near future, The First will follow the first human mission to Mars, while exploring the challenges of taking the first steps toward interplanetary colonization. The project — which received a straight-to-series order from Hulu earlier this year — focuses not only on the astronauts, but also on their families and loved ones,...

“The Last Face” premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and was ripped to shreds on social media, as well as received some of the worst reviews from critics. The film follows the head of an international aid organization (Charlize Theron) who falls in love with a relief doctor (Javier Bardem) amidst war-torn Africa. Ahead of its international release, the first trailer for the drama has made its way online.
The sneak peek shows how the two lovers, despite their shared belief about the danger of civil unrest, find that they hold opposing views on how to best solve the conflict. Adèle Exarchopoulos, Jean Reno and Jared Harris co-star.

Sean Penn will be doing his first TV guest spot since 2004 this fall, thanks to “Family Guy.” Entertainment Weekly reports that the Oscar winner will appear on the episode titled “Hot Shots,” which will be taking a few kicks at the anti-vaccination movement.
Penn will play himself in the animated comedy. The plot includes Peter and Lois deciding not to vaccinate Stewie, much to Brian’s displeasure. Though, when a pandemic breaks out in Quahog, the actor must persuade the Griffins that it would be a huge mistake to listen to the anti-vaccination propaganda. Penn’s son, Hopper, is also contributing to the episode as a charismatic cult leader.
“Brian is, as you would expect, incredulous that Peter and Lois would fall for, as Peter says, Dr. Jenny McCarthy,” “Family Guy” executive producer Richard Appel told EW. “But Brian alone is unable to persuade them. And then, when things go...
