Dubious "righteousness"

Warning: Spoilers
So far, all the emotions expressed by the characters were understandable to me, despite cultural differences. In this episode, the split between the orthodox and non-orthodox way of life is glaring and strident.

Most of all, as a lover of dogs (and animals in general) I was surprised and annoyed by the definition of the poor lost dog as "impure". It seems archaic and the opposite of "righteous".

In fact, the use of the word "righteous" seems increasingly unintentional funny. Another "righteous" Shtisel, Zvi Arye is an excellent singer and he's offered the chance to be a wedding singer. Despite loving the idea (and the possibility of making some extra money), Zvi Arye is so afraid of becoming less orthodox that he gives up without even trying.

Akiva wants to start painting again but even this is considered with suspicion and disappointment by the family.

All the Shtisel seem to be lacking determination and assertiveness, constantly oscillating between contradictory ideas and feelings and unable to pursue the way dearer to their heart, for fear of not being accepted by their community.

Muddled feelings abound also in the case of young "married" couple Ruchami and Hanina. Both underage, they're playing house without any means of support, in what to Western eyes may seem an hopeless situation.
