I have played every Super Smash Bros. game. This one does not disappoint. New balances to characters and upgrades to the fighting atmosphere create a refreshing experience. The story mode can actually be challenging, and it offers hours and hours of a good solo campaign experience. I would recommend it to anybody that is a fan of the franchise or new to the franchise. It is the best Nintendo game of 2018

The very best of all of the Smash Brothers games jammed into one!
parrfamilyusuk7 December 2018
Simply put, Ultimate truly is the best way to describe this game. The visuals are great, the gameplay is phenomenal and never gets boring, the soundtrack is mind-blowing, and the World of Light story mode is fun and interesting to traverse your way through. The best Smash Brothers and one of, if not the best fighting games ever made.

This game is Godly with a capital "G".

Anybody who says this game is bad has bad taste. It isn't a matter of opinion whether this game is good or not, it is a good game and there is literally no denying it unless you're an 11 year old Fortnite fanboy.

There isn't too much single player in the game, but there is just enough for you to be able to have fun playing it in the car.

People often say the online play is bad, but it isn't TERRIBLE... For me, anyways, I usually never have connection issues and my I usually don't have trouble finding matches for my Preffered Rules.

Sakurai knows how to make things epic, there is no denying it. He made my two favorite franchises, Smash Bros. and Kirby. Definitely a 10 out of 10 for this game.

One of the Best games I have ever played

With a massive roster, a beefy adventure mode, tons of others stuff to do, etc. Super Smash Bros Ultimate is easily worth the price, and I would still buy it if it were 120 dollars. And by the way, T-Series sucks and Pewdiepie will win. So GG 9 year olds!

Sakurai gives is his all!

This has to be one of the best Smash Bros games to date. Great gameplay, great way to not only introduce new playable characters, but also bringing back beloved characters from Melee and Brawl. Sakurai promised to give us something better, and I for one believe he fulfilled ghat promise so far.

The best smash game!!!
dravenalvarez27 December 2018
Super smash bros ultimate is everything I wanted it to be. It has over 100 stages, it has adventure mode, it has a lot of music, and every single smash character from the past games are now back in this game as well as some new characters.

A really good smash game.
denizahmetserdar19 May 2019
This smash game is one of the best smash games. The story mode is good but There should be more cutscenes. Online mode is the worst feature but everything else is good. The gameplay is nice. The roster is big and makes sense. Classic mode is renewed and better but there is only race to the finish. +Roster +Classic mode +Plot +Gameplay -Online -No cutscenes

This game is easy to play and really fun it has a big variety of characters some known by most and others not so known. This game is not very violent and is as I've already said very enjoyable.

The world of light plot is destructive. Warning: Spoilers
I felt disgusted and helpless about the world of light plot. Seeing all who I love and hate burn from that unholy power-hunger god Galeem's beams of destructive light that can demolish EVERYTHING! Kirby of the Stars made it out alive, But I have other favorite characters, and I HATE seeing them in such a helpless state! You know what happens if we don't kill that thing?! First, we die! Then, EVERYONE dies! It'll eat its way through everything in the universe 'til there's NOTHING LEFT!

An overall stressful experience with no good non online game modes
vbmgray22 December 2021
As someone who obsessively played Super Smash Bros on the 3DS, to the point where there would be many a school nights where you'd find my little red console hidden beneath my pillow paused in the middle of Smash Run, I was pretty excited to hear the news of a new Smash game. I was never the most avid of Nintendo fans in my early childhood, I was first introduced to them through some old Kirby games my grandparents had stored away. It was my interest in Kirby that lead me to eventually getting a DS and later 3DS, although I wasn't truly hooked as I much preferred games like Oblivion, Fallout 3, DOOM, etc, that was until I was introduced to Smash Bros. This introduction would later spiral into a love for Nintendo and it's franchises.

To put it simply the Super Smash Bros franchise holds a special place in my heart, which is why I am ultimately left disappointed by Ultimate.

First things first it is imperative to mention what is to many the main draw of Smash, the online mode. Smash Bros has carved itself out a large and dedicated community thanks mainly to its competitive nature, this competitive nature was fed and encouraged to grow by Smash's online mode. The prospect of playing with complete strangers that share the same interest has been an enticing one in the gaming world for a long time now, these online games allow for a sense of community to grow and prosper. For a decently long time now the Smash community has prospered under the online mode offered by Super Smash Bros, even despite Nintendo's less than stellar online servers. Upon the launch of Ultimate however things seemingly took a turn for the worst, people began to complain about certain characters being overpowered even in cases in which they weren't, different characters were determined to be annoying by the community, people used Nintendo's poor server quality to purposely lag the game, unsportsmanlike behavior began to crop up, rage quitting, etc. Of course you could attribute more people dog piling on certain characters as a result of the rise of social media but the point still stands that something about online mode was upsetting a large portion of the community. This something could be attributed to many things like game balance issues and/or perhaps the laggy servers, but I believe the main issue has to do with the GSP system. In the old Smash games they'd have two modes for online, one for competitive play and the other for casual play, this system worked well and separated the two different player bases. However, in Ultimate they decided to remove the casual mode and leave only a competitive one, this left the player base who preferred a more casual style to often times go up against those more serious about winning than them and left the player base who preferred a more competitive style to go up against rule sets that discourage skill based gameplay. GSP or Global Smash Points is the point system used in Super Smash Bros Ultimate to determine your skill level and who you are matched up against, it is this point system that I think leads to most toxic behavior observed in the player base. For those who don't want to play competitively but also get annoyed when losing GSP they may start to do things such as play in annoying unfun ways, purposely lag the game, and rage quit in order to retain their GSP.

My second gripe that I have with the game is the lack of interesting non online game modes. When looking at Ultimates list of game modes one might think that it has surpassed its predecessors but you'd be mistaken. Most of its game modes are just rehashes of old game modes from previous Smash titles, which is not the problem at hand as most of these modes are enjoyable but not entirely replayable. The problem comes with the new modes that are introduced, these game modes fail to capture my interest as they mostly just boil down to playing the base game with a slight twist. Throughout the many hours I spent playing Super Smash Bros on my 3DS absolutely none of it was ever online. My attention was always kept squarely on the many game modes it had to offer, the main one being Smash Run. To me Smash Run is the pinnacle of Super Smash Bros, no, all of gaming in fact. Every night I wake up in a cold sweat after dreaming about that polar bear from Ice Climbers beating the crap out of me. Smash Run was my first and only love, if I could I would allow Smash Run to put its baby in my man womb. Without Smash Run life has no meaning and all the gods are left dead. When you die rejoice for Smash Run shall bestow upon your feeble little life the ultimate pleasure.

Everything about Smash Ultimate is absolutely brilliant. The single player, the new engine and all the characters. This truly is the best Super Smash Bros game yet.

Another fantastic addition to the Super Smash Bros. franchise
Farlo1236 February 2019
Just like the previous Smash Bros. Games, it does not disappoint. So many characters and stages... Playing everything on random never bores me. However, I don't understand why they removed Stage Builder. It's one of the best things in Brawl and Smash 4 and there's no reason to remove it. I'm honestly sad that it's not included anymore. There's also a few minor things that I don't understand like taunts and some victory themes (rip Yoshi and Ice Climbers) being shorter now and Marth and Roy suddenly speaking English... But besides that, it's still a fantastic and fun game. I just hope that if there's ever going to be another Smash game that they will bring back Stage Builder and normal Final Smashes...

19/4/2019 edit: Stage Builder is back!!! I have only been making stages for one day but I already had more fun then I ever had on the Spirit Board or World of Grind. No idea what took them so long, but this game is now near-perfection again! :)

A Largely Successful Continuation
rustydalek-3791123 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have weird opinions about the Smash Bros. Series. With that out of the way, I will say that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate represents the best and worst of the franchise. Factoring in the DLC fighters, the roster is massive, and the number of franchises represented is quite staggering. However, the mii fighters and spirits have always seemed like a lazy way of giving people what they want without actually giving them what they want. Having every character fans ask for is obviously impossible, so a focus on adding those characters who would work best is ideal. Some of the choices for fighters are pretty underwhelming, and there are a handful that I only use as punching bags. The aesthetic of having Mario and Kirby running around with some of M-rated gaming's lesser contributions to the industry is something I will never get used to. That being said, the game is pretty enjoyable over all, and recommended for any fan of the series.

Amazing and Beautiful Game. Second favorite Smash Bros Game.
michaelsantiago-8846012 August 2019
Super Smash Bros. Brawl is my favorite Smash Bros Game because it gave me a phenomenal experience when I was a kid. (Its also one of my top 3 favorite games ever made.) When Smash Bros 4 was released around Christmas time. I was playing that non stop for days. Some people were disappointed including myself when they found out that smash 4 didn't have any type of story mode. Now 4 years later we have Smash Bros Ultimate and all I can say is. WOW!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was an absolute blast of a joyride. From the intro to the game itself. When you start the game you will notice something weird. You only start off with 8 characters. All those 8 characters are the 8 characters you start with in the N64 Game. Yeah I know shocking. Also this game has EVERY I mean EVERY character and stage from the very beginning with extras included. Also some DLC. What sucks is you have to unlock all the other 60 something characters but it gets a lot of fun once you get to do it. Also they don't have trophies anymore. They have spirits which are pretty much the almost exact same thing.

The World Of Light is the second story mode in a Smash Bros Game. It's very fun but also a little repetitive when have to do a load of missions. Also you start off with Kirby in it. I honestly prefer the Subspace Emissary over World Of Light mostly cause of the nostalgia I had with it and it's much more fun with story and that there is barely any dialogue spoken and its beautiful. I beat World Of Light and it's fun. I recommend it.

Overall this game is a masterpiece from start to finish. I loved it. This is overall my second favorite Smash Bros game behind Brawl. An absolute blast and joyride. I can't recommend it enough.

genocidal plot = not for 10 year olds!
laylanii-9416428 July 2019
Nintendo took this so far, ruining my childhood past of amazing video games! All I wanted was something less intense than the Subspace Emissary, but instead, they wanted to give a fictional god power beyond all control! It sickens me so much, My brain sees Diddy Kong getting murdered by that thing ever single day in my head! I can't bear the thought! It's so unforgivable!

A perfect Nintendo game.
Seb_326 June 2021
Like many of Nintendos games they are perfect for every age group and have an easy level of entry, while at the same time giving veterans and "hardcore gamers" the ability to be able to perfect their skills. Everyone has heard of Nintendo and will for sure be up for a game of Smash if you tell them that a famous character like Mario, princess peach or a long line of iconic mascots are in this game. Which is great because everyone can have a fun time with the game, despite not being good at games, and the fact that you can easily play a quick game in a matter of minutes is fantastic, all you have to do is pop out the joy con and pass it over.

The single player and other game modes they added were fantastic and I spent a lot of time clearing those out and really loved the story and challenges. They were varied and the exciting twists and you were always forced, in a good way, to experiment with spirits and try new characters as you progress through the story, unlocking more and more, filling up your roster of gaming icons. There for sure is a lot to find, as the biggest factor of course is that EVERYONE is here! Every single character that has ever been in a smash brothers game and even more has been added which is great, and they will clearly continue to support the game long into the future and if they eventually would want to make a new one, I honestly wouldn't know how they would be able to exceed this game. The online multiplayer is great, despite personal not spending the most amount of time there as I didn't really play this competitively, but you for sure could, which would provide an even greater challenge and longevity.

This game is a tribute to gaming as a whole, while being a astounding experience by it self. This is a must play if you like video games, its fun and captivating and will only bring good memories with it. Invite a few friends over, play it with a family member or two or maybe just enjoy a fun journey in its single player, because this for sure is, as it says in the title, the ultimate experience.

10/10.

a rated r plot for a rated 10 game!
pearlubu13 July 2019
I'm disgusted by the world of light plot. They say this game is for kids, but the plot isn't for me! Some killer god, uses beams which drastically horrifically slaughter our favorite and least favorite characters, and blows up the entire galaxy! That is murder and genocide! Don't expose this to 10 year olds until they go to high school!

super smash bros ultimate review
jackstonestone9 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So super smash bros is a game that features a HUGE amount of popular and iconic video game characters along with a HUGE community and also features many different kinds of content in it like Challenges and online gameplay and in general different ways to play the core part of the game which is FIGHTING and combining the elements of all sorts of popular icons over three years all together with each other's to battle it out. HOWEVER, today I will be doing an honest review of this game and trust me when I say when I researched this game I just want to start off by saying I LOVE IT so here we go. So first of all the whole idea and concepts of taking SO MANY recognizable characters with their very own stories and origins and with their very own games and franchises all together into one game and allowing them to fight each other is BRILLIANT. Also each and every single one of the characters has their very own diverse moveset of SO MANY different moves for fighting other opponents and you can find ways to do things like combos and optimization of certain moves and also moves CNN be based off of these characters own games and can be references for some of them if not all of them along with various taunts you can perform during battle that could also be references to their own franchises as well which is also very much appreciated by fans of so many of these games but it's also just fun to point them out as well. I also love how in this game there are even boss fights that have been added in from different games and other franchises and even references to previous smash games along with brand new modes that feature certain amounts of customizable difficulty for each with is very nice to see that you have more freedom over customization of certain modes or challenges. I also love how at the beginning of the game you only start out with 8 of the original smash brothers roster of characters from the original smash 64 game but the feeling of it is supposed to be that you are constantly unlocking new fighters over time but it's also a nice way of Pacific g for gameplay to keep people playing or coming g back but it's also a very nice reference to the original smash 64's roster of characters but you also unlock characters based on what number they joined the series on so that you know which fighter is coming next which is very nice to see fanservice all over the place in this game. Also I love how online gameplay is done in SO MANY WAYS such as modes like elite smash or tournaments or just normal online gameplay either for fun or for glory. Also i love how amiibos are still combatants with this game just like the last one where they are very stylish figurines that you can both put up on display but they can also better represent these iconic characters along with having actual compatibility with the game where you can put the stand of an amiibo on a Nintendo switch and then you can train that character that is on the amiibos in the game to become and extremely high level amongst other fighters which is another very good way of compatibility with not only the game but also in general the switch itself. Also i love the MANY different alts of colors and costumes that you can select for all of characters etsr that can either be smash originals or references towards that characters own games or franchise which is REALLY GOOD for fan service. Also i love how the community has made even fan animations and exclusive artwork for the love of this game and it's very well respected by the community of smash. Also speaking of artwork there is a TON of exclusive artwork for this game and as an artist myself I appreciate that very much. I also love all of the final smashes in this game and they are basically special moves and like a final attack for each character and they all have different themes like cinematics or going around the stage or having a certain hit box and also they can hold certain references towards these characters own games or franchises and also there are now two different ways to get a final smash and t g at school by destroying a smash ball or by filling up a fuel gauge which is great for more ways to play the game compared to the other smash games. Also instead of having to press multiple buttons all at once to activate something or do anything for that matter in the pause menu you can now just pull up a regular pause menu where you don't need to do that anymore so that's REALLY NICE to see this. There are also multiple modes in this game that you can use to change the gameplay like special smash where you can change the attributes of your character along with everybody else's or a stock battle where you can choose a certain amount of lives and even timed battles or unlimited time and just SO MUCH MORE ways to play the core part of the game which is fighting. I also love how in real life there are even tournaments that other players get together for which is another cool way for the community to experience more different ways of gameplay together. Also I love how directs are held by the main director and creator of this game named Masahiro Sakurai and he either introduces new fighters or newer content and updates to the game or the community as a whole. So in conclusion, this game is a wonderful clash of fan service, customization, entertainment for a long time, upgrading and updating content. Also having a MASSIVE community that supports and creates wonderful things like nice responses towards Mr. Sakurai hard work for example. So what would I rate this game on a scale of 1 to 10, absolute 10 I love everything about this game.

Close to perfect
darkpeasent23 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's so close! It's so close to perfection, but there are just a few things holding it back. First, the online sucks. Now I can't speak from firsthand experience for this as I don't play online, but from what I've heard, the online sucks, even for Nintendo standards. And second, I just kinda feel like there should be more, mainly in 'Games & More', as there's only 7 things, one of which requiring an Amiibo. I just feel like there should be a bit more, like for example, if you could fight any boss from there at any time or even play as them, as fighting as master hand was one of my favorite parts of the entire story mode.
