funniest episode so far but judging the MS part
rallierf123 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
They skim through the MS issue casually, no MS is not cruel , it is the worst possible hell ever!!!!! as someone who lived alongside that disease I can attest that. Yes I've even ditched a potential mate because i learned she had it from a 3rd party. Before you judge me as a monster, my mother has MS for over 30 years I just couldn't take it anymore and honestly i don't know how my father can still take it. I couldn't so i ran away. It destroys the very being of someone you love and it destroys you in the process as well, chipping away a little bit everytime. Death by a million slashes looks like mercy in comparison. In my mother's case it left her a husk with zero cognitive abilities paralyzed but not comatosed. I am sorry to say but to get involved with someone with MS knowingly is pledging your soul to hell for the rest of your living life

The 'human' factor
Left_back4 March 2016
As stories go this episode was not a real standout, except it delved into the human relationship of Captain Gregson to quite a degree.

There was nothing in this episode about the through plot of Sherlock's father's attempted assassination, so the 'human' factor was given to developing a story of Capt Greyson's social involvement with a former detective.

We are well into the 4th season and by this time writing/production teams will either go with the flow and keep the successful formula of a show going to keep audience and ratings, or they will delve into the unknown to see how far they can take it into challenges unforeseen.

With the time limit of hour-long episodes any time taken to flesh out character development is time taken from solving the crime of the week. So the artifice of exposition comes in handy to get to the resolution of the crime, as in this case, in order to bring down the criminal.

Some fans would wish to see Moriarty again, as dastardly superior criminals often get better written stories, but the introduction of Morland Holmes is a good distraction.

Insulting
koohii1 August 2022
The depiction of MS in this episode is ridiculously insulting. "Detected in the early stages" my ass! MS (and other auto-immune conditions) take 3-5 years to identify. This soap-opera BS depiction is an insult to my wife's memory and suffering. The writers should be ashamed.
