The Measure of Sports Talk Shows

Informative. Timely. Coherent and we'll reasoned. Can also be zany, juvenile and downright silly! Excellent complimentary cast, as well as first rate guests.

Best interviewer in the business

Dan Patrick is the goat of interviewing. His ability to personally relate and dive in deep with his guests is what makes him great. He always has on excellent guests and is as well versed as any in the business. This is the show to listen to.

The best ever

This is the gold standard for sports talk radio. Dan and the Dannettes are awesome. They have substance to everything the talk about, even when it's off topic. There is rarely wasted air time like most talk shows scrambling for conversation/filler content. Dan is honest and doesn't change his delivery to fit the popular opinion. He tells you what he thinks. He stays out of politics and other polarizing topics, which is rare these days.

Juvenile boy's Club.

I am an occasional watcher. Should say was, because it is no longer being simulcast. I enjoy a good bit of sports radio and TV and consider myself very knowledgeable about the genre. Dan is a very good interviewer and his show can be both fun and newsbreaking. However as a female watcher, I also find it juvenile and immature. I admire sports personalities (journalists? entertainers?) who can carry a show by themselves or with one or two support people. apparently Dan does need his posse to fill in the gaps. Unfortunately it contributes to a boy's club mentality that is very grating to many women. Those sports Illustrated cover posters are really just over the top in this day and age. I'm no man-hating feminist nor PC liberal always looking to be offended. I'm just saying the show gives out messages that many sports-loving women would find off putting. That we were not quite welcome there. If that is intentional, well, that's fine. It is what it is. If not, a word to the wise.

Warning: Spoilers
If you are not a dutiful listener to the level of their snobbish Danettes clique, then audience members are cast aside as irrelevant and uninformed. Patrick used to be levelheaded and keen with his sense of sporting world, but age and pompousness have render him irascible. Couple that with an egocentric presentation of his overexploited cinematic fame with the "Sandman" and you sense his growing assumption of "celebrity", that lingers on the soured tongue of his dwindling audience.

The fun is over, and the inevitability of obscurity is rather apparent, as his "efforting" to maintain a fresh-faced connection with his audience continues to slide down the slippery slope of delusion.
