Malatesta's Underground (2016)
*** (out of 4)
This ten-minute featurette has interviews with Art Directors Alan Johnson and Richard Strange who discuss their cult film MALATESTA'S CARNIVAL OF BLOOD. The two of them start off briefly discussing the screenplay, which both say was rather routine and they didn't understand it. From here they talk about the visual look of the film and what they had to do to try and get the movie to have a certain look, all based around a carnival. Arrow Video certainly did the film a lot of justice and especially with the extras since they tracked down people who really only had one credit. Both Johnson and Strange do a nice job telling their stories and especially the ones dealing with their work in creating the sets and trying to get the film the proper look. Fans of the film will certainly enjoy this featurette as it gives you a very good idea of what was going on behind-the-scenes.
